It's Idol time

The new season of American Idol began Wednesday with the usually audition show stuff - big crowds, hopeful kids and some lousy singers.
The Atlantic will be there all year. Even though it's not as cool as it once was.
Idol need not fear The Voice, which will be competing against it on NBC this season. Nor needed it have feared Simon Cowell's unpleasant autumn endeavor The X Factor. Because, ultimately, why would we continue to smoke the cheap stuff when the premium grade — the original, the non-gimmicky, the pure white product — is right there, waiting for us with its sparkly January smile? That come hither glint that says "Hey, pull up a chair, we've missed you so much." And we can't help but respond, despite knowing we should know better, after all these years, "Hey. I've missed you too."

Ring in the new year

Lauren Alaina had a pretty good 2011, making the American Idol finale.
She gets to close the year on FOX's New Year's Eve programming.

Is it Scott?

American Idol concludes tonight.

I tried watching a little of the show tonight - but the contestants are too young. Hearing songs from the early 1990s isn't my idea of a good night's entertainment.

It's almost the worst time

Does anybody watch American Idol anymore?
No Simon Cowell, and it's been off Tuesday nights until this week - when the top 24 begin singing.
It's hard to believe it's been three years since Fishersville's own Colton Berry made the top 24.

Overall, we just have to all work together and actually vote for the worst. Don't be swayed by sob stories and unpimped people who you want in the top 12. If they're good enough, they'll get a record deal later. Many times, people throw a few pity votes toward someone that they felt "oh so bad" for or because they find them attractive. That's called vote splitting and it makes sure our pick doesn't make it, so don't do it. You will be sabotaging our efforts if you don't actually help us vote for the person we pick. And Saint Antonella will cry.

I happened to turn to American Idol Tuesday during a break in the ice hockey game. Tim Urban was on stage. You can't call what the dude does performing.

Idol - two go home

Two of the nine singers will leave the stage Wednesday.

When we last heard about Adam Lambert, he was shocking the public and wondering why they were shocked.
This week, he helped this year's American Idol cast prepare for Tuesday's show.
Why? According to votefortheworst.com, because he's failing big time and his career needs a push.
