stitching continues

On this last day of July
the weather was good enough
to do some stitching in the garden.

I'm busy with a slightly bigger one
than last time :
20 x 50 cm
( +/-  8" x 19.5")
(I know there are canvases that size,
so I won't have the problem
that I need to make my own
like the 15 x 15 cm ...)

All the scraps in place and
invisibly basted to the hand dyed piece

The back, with the   b  i  g   stitches

And because lots of scraps were out
(I keep them in colour family in rolls, or plastic bags or small boxes)
there came another one
(ahhhh, Jackie and Nat might recognize some bits  ;-) ...)

But I don't know yet what the main colour for the stitching will be :

???????

I put the "red" piece
on some other fabric ... but no

the colours were too "noisy" to work on
(though I know it's meant to be folded under when finished !)
so back to the original piece.

So after I gathered the colours (yes, silks too)
I could start stitching

A long way to go !

what's next

Ha,
that is always "the problem" when one thing
is finished
...

"A warm heart brightens up your day"

A detailed look of the left part

Here it is :
mounted on a painted canvas
(15 x 15 cm)
(only one side is striped, the other three are gray and lighter gray)

So then it was on to the next one.

I started like we did start a long time ago
during the "beasts" class with Jude :
piecing a simple beast
(rabbit)

(hey, maybe Joe triggered that with the tale
about the rabbit near his front door  ;-) ...?)
It's a rather tame rabbit ...... but that can change

After that I dressed up its surroundings with scraps
and glue-stitched them to the background.

In the meantime there were two grandchildren to take care of :
the little one, and the big girl, who was sick
(but wanted to "make something" after she had slept for a while)

Lots of woolen felt in my stash,
so :
mama and baby owl were "born"

tending to solstice

Although it's still a few days
Summer Solstice
isn't very far away.

I thought that was as good a reason as any other
to start another little stitched piece.

What better way to start than
a bit of weaving.

Yes, I admit that Jude still has this influence on me ...
(and I think I'll never lose that :
don't want to either  ;-) !)

Then came , as always,
the invisible basting to the backing

And "here comes the sun"

Lots more to be done

;-)

new stitching

Last Friday I made preparations
for e new ( small ) piece :
a golden yellow silk / hemp piece of a "Paapje" remnant
and as a thin cloth to baste on
a piece torn  from the sleeve of an old linen shirt

with a bit of Kaffe Fassett cloud.

I started stitching today
and show you only the smallest piece

( the coat is nearly 2 cm high ... )

... to be continued ...

mending

The little mending problems are solved.
Often these mending-things are lying around
and get dusted over before they are done.
But these weren't mine !

First I took care of the burning accident

I chose the shape of a heart because the hole looked a bit like one

finished

When I think about "burns"
I always think of the most beautiful burns I've ever seen,
you'll find them over here at Cecilia's.

Then came the second and more difficult problem
of the right-angled tear.
The fabric, some Indian cotton, is very loose and thin
so there was no way I could "wonder-under" something behind it.
I took a small thin strip of a similar colour
and used Jude's "invisible basting stitch" to attach it to the garment.

... the beginning, still with pins in it at the right side ...

... and this was what the inside looked like.
Done !

( I brought both pieces back tonight,
so M can wear her new trousers when the weather stays as warm as it is )
*

I did some machine-stitching on some little felt pieces

( I admire Jackie yet more than I already did ! )
