Rainbow

Image
A long while ago, I signed up for a workshop with Jacqueline de Jonge to make one of her fabulous pattern. I picked the Enchanted Stars pattern . Next step was to assemble a beautiful rainbow of fabric for this massive project! Before the class we were advised to cut all the pieces (and there are loads!) to save time. I dutifully did and ended up with lots of pretty colourful  trimmings The workshop was on Friday and Saturday. The quilt is labour intensive and requires a lot of precision with so many points and spikes. All the peaks and flying geese are foundation pieced. We stared off with some lovely rainbow spikes before moving on to the star. By lunch time, I had all the pieces below and finished the first star by the end of the day. I know it doesn't look like much but it did take the day! The curved piecing was much more challenging than the paper piecing and Jacqueline gave us some very good pointers of what to pay attention too. On the second day, we worked on

Progress on the old UFO

Not much sewing during the week at the moment unfortunately. But I received my last 2 blocks to be able to finish my batik stars top! I grabbed the stars almost as soon as they arrived to add them to my final row. Of course I had to unpick one of the row that I added to the wrong end of my top (and I hate unpicking!) But now I am so proud that the centre of the quilt is FINISHED - 8 years after it was first started. This was my challenge for the Lazy Bums for August, probably why I picked it and felt comply to work on it! Now it needs a border, some quilting and a binding. Hoping this will not take another 8 years ;-) Nicki has challenged me to finish it by Christmas, let's see if I can meet her challenge! August in review

Image
I know this is very late but since we have come back from France at the beginning of August, I seem to have very little time to do anything, or to be too tired in the evening to start working on the computer. School has started back, work is really busy and I am trying to be good and attend exercise classes twice a week. Also Autumn has arrived and it is dark so early now that I think all my energy has disappeared. Anyway, it is nearly mid-September but I thought I would still post a mosaic of my August finishes, as often mainly some bee blocks but also a finished hexagon top that needs quilting (and still needs it!) and my batiks stars top which is almost there! Linking to Fresh Sewing Day , even if it is so late! Celine

Curved batik rails

Image
Last month, I made my block for the lotto at the last minute so I thought I'd do better this month and make them earlier in the month. Well I am proud to say that I had finished my 9 blocks on 1st September. This month we are making curved rails in batiks. They are super quick to put together, specially as you are making 3 at a time. If you haven't tried the lotto before and you love batik fabrics, I would recommend trying it this month. You'll have fun! Celine
