Make Me An Instrument…

Apr15 blk

Ever since I got this new ODBD stamp, Prayer of St Francis, I had this idea… finally, I put it to paper!
Although, I’d originally thought I’d
put it on a card front.

If you’re anything like me, you have a drawer, container… or {CLOSET} … yes, I do…. full of alterables. Little (or big) treasures that only a paper crafter can appreciate!

This particular one I found in the reduced aisle, a plaque, 5x5. I think it had a rooster on it…lol

FrancisPrayerPlaqueFS1

I stamped the prayer 5 times, then using Spellbinders Labels 25 cut each layer with my Grand Calibur, and sponged with Old Paper Distress ink.

Taking my black Copic, I went around the edges of the plaque for my border and cut a piece of Basic Grey Little Black Dress to fit.

Apr15 clsup sd

The paper flowers are more from my ‘closet’. For filler I used Flower Soft wires curled around a chopstick, and wires with Flower Soft glue and Ivory, Ultra Fine Koala Grey and Black

FrancisPrayerPlaqueFS clsup

The leafy swirls are Fanciful Flourishes by Cheery Lynn Designs cut from the same Basic Grey pack.

FrancisPrayerPlaqueFS oval

I love how it turned out… much better than the rooster!

I hope I’ve inspired you to dig something out of your stash and get creative!

Thanks for stopping!

Was the Sassy Boss Stumped? Sassy Cheryl's #23

July27 StumpBoss blk

If you remember last week, we tried to stump Cheryl and make her guess who made which card. We each put a card on our blog that belonged to another Sassy Girl.

Dang, if she didn't get me right the very first time from just the collage! Then she changed her mind and put me as someone else, only to come back and put me back with the correct card!!

July27 StumpBoss clsupI tried to be so sneaky too... using Alina's layouts, Judy's doodles... I think she cheated! SNORT!

Here's my card using
Twiggy the Snowman.
Colored with Copics (shoulda used Prismas like Judy!!) with Sakura white gel pen accents.

My Time With Dawn Post from ODBD

If you're looking for my Sassy Cheryl's and Jbelle post...it's below this one...thanks for looking!

18th blk
I love to find mark down and second hand items to alter! I got this plaque on some reduced rack somewhere some time ago! Perfect for this new set,
As You Graduate! I just covered up the picture with Prism cardstock cut to fit...embossed another piece with Cuttlebug folder, Victoria, and sponged it with Distress ink.

18th HangerI stamped the image in Black Soot Distress ink and immediately heat set clear embossing powder on it. Then I sponged it with more Distress inks, Tumbled Glass, Stormy Sky, Crushed Olive, Bundled Sage and Pumice Stone.
The Scripture is also embossed, edged with a black Copic marker to match the image, then lightly sponged and popped up on foam mounting tape.

18th trees18th FS closupI added Flower Soft along the pathway to match the paper flowers that also have Flower Soft stamens.

18th flowers  18th budsI used Beate's tutorial to make this particular flower. I used Spellbinders Daisy Heads for these, although I've used the scalloped dies before too, for a little different flower look. The paper is some older DP from my stash, Vintage Blue Flowers by Paper Pizazz. Then I added filler with Martha Stewart punches.
(I've had a question of how  I made the stamens and how I made the flowers so big. For the stamens, I used wire, put a drop of 3 in 1 Glue by Beacon on the end and dipped it in the FS and let it dry..it dries quickly. For the flowers, it just depends on the size die you use. Daisy Heads worked out to about  1 1/2 in across. I did cut between some of the petals to help it shape better. The 2 leaves are from the same die set)

I love the fact that this set is so versatile and not just for the grad!

Well, I hope I've encouraged you to try something new...pick up that alterable item at that yard sale next time! You never know what treasure it could turn into!

Thanks for stopping!

Our Daily Bread designs November Release Hop!

JoytotheWorld Candle closeup frosted Are we ready to start this hop?! I sure am, because I'm so excited about these new sets from Our Daily Bread designs.

If you just happened on my blog you're in luck because I'm starting this hop!  But you really need to start at the ODBD Blog, where you can see the entire release and the blog hop order.

This is a special hop...there are secret words hidden along the way which you need to collect along with the name of each Designer.  Then you will return to the ODBD Blog and leave a comment that you have visited all the blogs and a special email address will be given to you so you can then email Grace with the secret words you found in the correct orderThat's all you have to do for the chance to win the ENTIRE NEW RELEASE this month!  That's three GREAT new sets that will help you with all your card and gift making needs just in time for Christmas!!!

Here are my projects I'm sharing with you today. One very simple and the other, though simple, a little more involved.
Joy to the World Candle
All I did was make a band to fit around the candle. Using Versamark, I stamped the sentiment from the set, Luke 2:11 and heat embossed it with Fine Detail Gold EP by Ranger. I used Spellbinder's Labels 4 and while the cardstock was still in the die, I sponged on Peeled Paint Distress Ink by Ranger. While it was still in the die, I stamped the poinsettia from the same set with Clearsnap Fluid Chalk Olive Pastel.
Here's a tip for your candles if they have a nick or in my case, the gold had come off in several places (and not able to cover with the band!). I sprayed Krylon Gold Webbing over the candle! It added a beautiful texture and covered up the imperfections!

Now, for my second one. Stamping on a candle.
Candle blockI'm sure most of you that have been stamping any time at all know the trick of stamping on tissue paper, but for those that might not know this technique I'll explain it.
CandleYou need a piece of tissue paper to fit around your candle and almost as high. Stamp your image...here again I used the poinsettia from Luke 2:11 and the verse from Christmas Verses... stamping in Versamark and heat embossing (carefully) with the Detail Gold EP. Then I colored the poinsettia with Copics and gave the tissue a few spritzs of Pearl Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels....oh does this ever SHIMMER!! (Kelley sent each of us girls a bottle...way too much fun! Thank YOU Kelley!)

Then all you do is lay your tissue paper around your candle and carefully, with your heat tool, "melt" your tissue right into the candle!

Thanks for stopping by today! And I hope you enjoyed my project and maybe learned something too... all your friends and relatives can get a beautifully decorated candle! *grin*

Now from here you need to go visit Sandee... and before you go... my secret word is "A".

Be sure you are keeping a list of all the DT names so you can write their secret word next to them and email that to Grace at the address given on the ODBD Blog at the end of the hunt!  You have until 8 PM EST on Tues. Nov. 3rd to email her the secret word/words each designer had!  Remember...One LUCKY WINNER will win the entire release!

One More Chance to Win...
Please be sure to check out the ODBD Blog "Latest Challenge" to join our Design Team in this month's Challenge!  The challenge this month is to make a Holiday Card and make it SHIMMER!  There are many ways you can do that... so this is easy enough for all to play along!  You might use Shimmery Designer Paper, Glimmer Mist, Shimmerz, Twinkling H2O's, etc.  Just show us the shimmer so fitting to the Christmas season!

Everyone is invited to play along!  You DO NOT have to use Our Daily Bread designs stamps to win, but if you have them, we LOVE to see them!!!  Link your card to the Latest Challenge Thread on the ODBD Blog by Nov. 15th by 8 PM EST.  There will be a $30.00 Store Credit given to the winner of this challenge!  Let's see your Shimmer!!

Thanks for stopping!

Home Decor Challenge

Oh, this was a fun one!! Making something for the home. I got kind of carried away! I had one idea...then another...then another....well, you catch my drift *wink*

I'll give all the recipes at the end as well as the other girls who are doing this challenge. I can't wait to see what they did!!

How easy would it be to cover a light switch cover using the new Thomas Kinkade paper packs? I figured I'd find out! It was super easy! Decide what you want where on your cover plate and trace around it on the back side of the paper adding about 1/4" around the edges.
I used my ATG applicator (double sided tape) to stick the paper to the cover, mitering the corners, trimming close to the edge. (make sure you apply it around all the edges and at least 3 strips, one being in the middle)

For the switch hole, flip the cover over so you're looking at the backside, take a craft knife and make an "X"from corner to corner. Fold the pieces inward and stick down.
Hold the cover up to the light and using a piercing tool (a sharp pencil will do), poke holes where the screws go.
On the Snowman scene I added white gel pen and stardust pen.

This next project is one of the classes from CHF. Lesley had this cool tutorial making coasters using tiles. You can see how to do them here. I didn't have the supplies at the time of the class, but when I went to Lowes on Friday, I found tiles reduced(small and large)!! Woohooo....

I made this one for a housewarming gift for a friend that just moved. She can use it for a trivit or she can display it like I have here.

And my final project.....SEE, I told you I kept thinking.....................anyone smell smoke?

I have a friend that loves things with sheep. She really liked my "Home Is Where The Heart Lives" frame, so Elsie, this is for you!

Super simple. I cut my cardstock to fit the frame and stamped the hills twice, then stamped only the trees several times. I sponged the hills and sky with several distress inks.....then......
I smeared glue and sprinkled Flower Soft over the trees.
Next, I stamped the sheep and did the same. I stamped the sheep's heads on a scrap, cut them out and attached with glue dots. Stamped the sentiment and voila! Done!

The frame was a bright, bold gold, so I sprayed it with 2 Krylon colors of "Make It Stone". This let just a hint of gold show through, giving it texture and a really cool look! It takes about 15 minutes to dry.

I hope you got inspired to find something around the house to cover or stamp on and turn it into a decoration for yourself....or better yet, bright someone's day with an unexpected gift!

If It Doesn't Move....It Could Get Altered!
The challenge for us Chicks this week was to alter something. Now, it's always fun to do an altered project....BUT.... some of us used a new item developed by CHF!! This is a FIRST for the industry! How exciting is that! (the Canadian girls don't always get their new toys as fast, so might not have a sample for you today...be patient though *wink*)

They're called Scrapblocks™...get this... 6"x6" of pattern! The possibilities are endless as to what you could do with these!
Don't just think scrapbooking *wink*

Be sure to check out all the other girl's blogs too to see their fabulous altered projects. **again, not all the girls might have used a Scrapblock™ this time around, but be sure to keep watching because they have some fantabulous ideas!!

One day last week, Mona uploaded a card with shrink plastic...the wheels started turning....yes, there was smoke!...I stamped the 6x6 Writing Paper Scrapblock™ on shrink plastic, added the words and images and shrunk it!
I maybe should have baked it, but used the heat tool.
Pindots Scrapblock™ is under the Writing Paper Backgrounder.
