The WORKSHOP

I'm behind - I have so many ideas written down and so many pictures - stuff comes up and there just aren't enough days to blog it all!!!!!

Jeanne and Shelley from The Quilt Patch (in Moose Jaw - the web site is back up!!!!) not only entertained us with their beautiful quilts at the 20th Anniversary Dinner for the Halton Hills Quilt Guild, but they led us through a wonderful workshop the next day.

What did we work on???????????

The project was High Strung - the quilt on the cover of their FIRST book (Tis the Season is the name of the book)

Here are some pictures ...............................

Not even sure whose this was??????????????

Another mystery project!

Everyone hard at work

It was Barb's birthday that day - so we sang Happy Birthday to her!!!!

Daphne hard at work laying her top out

Now another important part of any workshop is the FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had coffee and tea and GOODIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
By the way - Marian and Daphne took charge of the lunch and what a lunch we had. They asked the attendees to bring in some goodies.................

AHA - a little mouse tester got into this one!

How about this one?????   A little more tasting if you ask me. Of course, one must make sure that the goodies you bring are in fact GOOD!!!!!

Laying out the plates for sandwiches

We were so LUCKY to work in this beautiful kitchen in the church basement. We had LOADS LOADS LOADS of room.

Bev wandered in to help us. That is me in the green shirt. YES - ME in the kitchen. I guess someone trusts me in the kitchen or perhaps there wasn't anybody else available. Of course I only had to make sandwiches and heat up the soup. Under Marian's supervision of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh good - you can't see this very well - first - I DID NOT bring an apron so had to wear a tea towel to avoid getting  food on my nice t-shirt. And with that look on my face - I would say I had been drinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marian made a YUMMY soup under the tutelage of her son the chef. Although the soup contained only tomatoes, the secret ingredient were the spices that if Stephen told us - he would have to kill us!!!!   It was DELICIOUS.   But we did learn a lesson - never listen to your husband. The soup was frozen in zip loc bags. Jim said - oh yes - that will thaw out overnight in the cooler - NOT!!!!!   We had to slowly heat up those bags of frozen soup, but we had them thawed out and HOT HOT HOT by the time lunch rolled around
Marian dishing up the soup. I wonder if there is any left - I never even thought to bring some home. I LIKE soup for lunch and it was YUMMY
The SOUP line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bev helping get the goodies prepared.........

Now did anyone actually get anything done in class???????????????????

Karen managed to get her flimsy done - she is going to contemplate the batting/backing/quilting issue. YES - she did NOT do the same pattern as everyone else.

Judy got hers cut out at the workshop and continued to work on it at Monday Motivators. Judy's face was BEAMING as she mastered the buttonhole/blanket stitch and started to stitch around the stockings!!!!!

If anyone else finished theirs at the workshop - I did not get pictures. You see - we made a HUGE mistake at the lunch. For some reason, we did NOT even think to use paper plates. I know - have you ever washed dishes for FORTY people. Seems that we spent the morning getting the sandwiches and soup ready and then the entire afternoon washing up. DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   We were NOT thinking.

We had a guild meeting this past Monday and I expected to see something from the workshop - have a look.................

Liz got her top together. Rather than randomly placing her green  squares - she has them set out in a pattern and I believe she modified the top part as well.  Looks Awesome Liz!!!!!!!

Anne (who modified the design a "BIT") got her table topper together, quilted and almost bound or maybe it was completely bound. I LOVE that border. Great job Anne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joan made this runner by only doing the applique part of the quilt. I believe it was COMPLETELY done - quilted and bound. Wow - Great job Joan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then there is Judy!   I am not sure what I can say about Judy. Supposedly she works full time (although I really am starting to doubt that), she belongs to a couple of quilt/fibre groups, spends time with her family. Well I am thinking she is super human and doesn't require ANY sleep.

Judy decided to make hers a BED size quilt. She doubled the size of the applique border and then had the quilt top together, quilted and ALMOST BOUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I mean - what the heck is that??????   AWESOME Judy - you put us all to shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And me? You want to know about mine????   Well I didn't attend the workshop because I was in the kitchen!!!   But Marian and I started this project months ago - might even have been last year. And what is the progress???????

All cut out and ready to stick on the background. Got to get over Halloween first - then I can move to Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I think Marian's MAY be a bit more advanced than mine.

Thanks again to Jeanne and Shelley for providing us with a wonderful workshop, Daphne and Marian for the most amazing lunch ever, and everyone who attended the workshop. It was a FUN FUN FUN day.

Here is a link to The Quilt Patch blog so you can see the workshop from their eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!

On that note - it is time to get to work. Yesterday was another one of those ERRAND days - I seemed to pop from one errand to another and didn't get anything concrete done.

Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anniversary Dinner

Wow - I have been up for over FOUR hours and I have basically got NOTHING done. OK - I did walk the dogs, went to physio, drove DH to the airport, had breakfast, but NOTHING concrete done. Here I am finally sitting in front of the computer.

One of the guilds I belong to - the Halton Hills Quilter's Guild (Georgetown) Dinner celebrated its 20th anniversary this year (OK - this is the tail end of the year). Anyway - the past president (Judy) suggested we have a dinner to celebrate the event. And somehow my hand went up when she was looking for ideas for speakers/venues. It evolved into a HUGE affair which took place this past Monday night.

Jeanne Large and Shelley Wicks of The Quilt Patch fame were invited as guest speakers. Great - I am trying to insert their link here and SOMETHING ELSE has changed on Google Chrome - some STUPID STUPID STUPID security thing. Now to figure out how to get rid of that. Honestly - I am TIRED of all this crud. People need to leave things alone - I waste so much time trying to get things like that figured out.

OK - breath deep THREE times. Ah - I feel better. Still don't have the link - but I feel better.

As Oprah would say - GO BIG or go home, so I decided that we could host 150 people at the dinner. I know - what was I thinking?????   I sold tickets to our guild and other local guilds, friends and whoever would purchase a ticket. We were basically sold out - I think I had two tickets left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The dinner was a resounding success. I choose a small banquet hall in Mississauga (Fuzion Banquets) and they were SO ACCOMMODATING. A few small things that I will suggest to them to improve, but I was happy.

Here are some pictures of the dinner - it was hard as the lighting wasn't the best for pictures and I think my camera wasn't on the right setting for the light and I didn't have time to fiddle with it.

Getting set up at the hall

More set up

Some of the guests (faces blurry to protect the innocent!)

Jeanne and Shelley

The following are some of their quilts. Sorry - I do NOT remember all the names of the patterns. If you are interested in something - you can call the store and get the pattern from them.

Quilt designed by Jeanne and Shelley

Quilt designed by Jeanne and Shelley

They had a nice catalogue sheet printed with all the names and do you think I can find that right now????

Christmas Alley (I think that was the name)

Over sized hopscotch - one of my favourites

Courthouse steps with sunflowers and pumpkins

Winter and Autumn (seasonal wall hangings) - yes there was a spring and a summer as well

Mittens to hang by the chimney for Santa (if you are too big to have a stocking!!!)

Bunny Hugs - a GREAT baby quilt

Ben and Jerry table runner

Jeanne and Shelley

Jeanne and Shelley have published TWO books - Tis The Season which is in its 6th printing (almost UNHEARD of in the quilting business) and although the book was published a couple of years ago - it is STILL the NUMBER ONE seller for Martingale. How about that for a couple of CANADIAN designers!!!!!!!  Book two - Urban Country Quilts was published a year later and it is also selling well. Book three will be out in the Spring of 2014 and the contract for Book 4 has been signed.

Urban Country Quilts

Their fabric line - Shasta is sold out in most locations stocking the fabric and their new line should be out some time in 2013.

These girls are just a bundle of fun and a whirlwind. Most of the patterns they sell in their store are their own design!   Can you believe that??????   Yep - their own patterns only.

Daphne and Marian did an amazing job with swag bags and door prizes. Everyone walked away with a nice swag bag filled with loot of all kinds. We had donated fabric, patterns, bags, coupons, magazines, needle cases, muffin tins, and MUCH MUCH more. Then there were almost 50 door prizes. I know - -everyone had a 1 in 3 chance of winning something and you know what - no one at our table of 10 won a thing!!!!!!!!!!   Sorry girls - just luck of the draw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Daphne and Marian - you ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want to thank all the donors of items for the door prizes, and everyone who donated to the loot bags. Here is a list of them all...................... (I will load the list later this afternoon)

I would like to ask you a favour - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE support your local stores. If you don't - they won't be around. Where would you go when you just need a break or want to chat about quilting and your friends aren't around? I go to the quilt store.

I think everyone had a great time and I wish to thank EVERYONE who came to the event. YOU are the ones that made the dinner successful. Without you - there would have been no event.

THANK YOU         THANK YOU           THANK YOU

People asked when the next event was going to take place. Oh boy - but wouldn't it be fun to have ONE big dinner party a year for quilters with a guest speaker. How cool would that be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    Of course it wouldn't be as inexpensive as this was. Anybody got any ideas for guest speakers??????

On that note - I think I need a small nap. I am still recovering from the event. I will tell you about the workshop later or most likely tomorrow. I am suddenly EXHAUSTED and I can't think straight enough to put the rest of the information and pictures.

After my little nap - I will put the names of the sponsors up. If this entry sounds crazy - yes - my brain is muddled!!!

Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last call!

The Halton Hills Quilt Guild is celebrating their 20th Anniversary and we are CELEBRATING in a BIG WAY.

We have planned a buffet dinner and two AMAZING speakers. Jeanne Large and Shelley Wicks. Don't know them? Well they are the authors of TWO books............

The first book called 'Tis the Season, Quilts and Other Comforts was released in July 2010. It was a smash hit and has gone into several reprintings................

'Tis the Season, Quilts and Other Comforts

Barely a year later, they had their second book out  - Urban Country Quilts...........
Urban Country Quilts
Published in November, 2011

Their third book will be published sometime next year and from what I hear - it is going to be AMAZING!!!!

They are fabric designers as well...............

Shasta Fabric Line    (note - many of those fabrics are SOLD OUT)

I think their SECOND fabric line is already well along in the production process.

I am anxiously awaiting the new book and the fabric. They both sound AWESOME.

Jeanne and Shelley also own a quilt shop!   The Quilt Patch in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

They are TWO VERY BUSY LADIES!!!!     And we were lucky enough to snag them as the GUEST SPEAKERS at our anniversary dinner. There are a FEW tickets left. If you are interested in attending the dinner, let me know and I will reserve a ticket(s) for you. But HURRY - the tickets won't last long and you will be sorry you missed this awesome event.

In addition to a wonderful dinner and our speakers, there are some FABULOUS door prizes. And I'm not just talking one or two - there are a LOT of door prizes. And FABULOUS SWAG BAGS for everyone.

This is going to be the quilting event of the year - the one you do NOT want to miss.

The Date: Monday, October 15
The Time: Doors open at 6:00 PM - dinner at 6:30 PM
The Cost: $45

Want to spend even more time with these inspiring ladies????   We are hosting a workshop on Tuesday following the dinner. There are a couple of spots left. The project is the quilt on the cover of the "Tis the Season" book. It is called High Strung. A GORGEOUS quilt. The focus of the class will be the applique strip -

See what I mean?????   Those kits look amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The BIG event

Well I have nothing to report today - just more cutting and pressing, sewing and pressing - I have pressed so much I know what it would be like to work in a laundry all day!!!!!    But good progress is being made and I must admit that I am kind of liking it. Why? Well I am using up gobs of fabric - it is mindless and it is relaxing.

Soon to be time to move to the next stage which hopefully will go faster than this stage!!!!!

It is time to announce the BIG event that I have eluded to for the last while. Here we go........................

Don't know who Jeanne and Shelley are????   Check out their web site

They have written two books - "Tis the Season" and "Urban Country Quilts"

Anyway - I have spent some time with these girls and let's say there is NEVER A DULL MOMENT.

There is a workshop with Jeanne and Shelley the next day (we are doing the quilt on the cover of the Tis The Season book). I have a few details to work out, but again guild members get first chance at those spots (there are 40). But if you would like to get your name on the list for the workshop - let me know. Kits will also be available if you would like.

OK - so that is the BIG news. I am very very excited about it. I LOVE LOVE LOVE organizing things like this. I know - I am totally crazy.

And if you want to have a preview of the stuff that Jeanne and Shelley sell - they will be at the CreativFestival next weekend.

Don't forget to come and see me and all my STUFF!!!!!!!
