Snow, Ice, and a Few Flakes

I want to appologize for not posting as much lately.  I am doing some extra work and it has kept me from my craft room but I recently just ignored everything else and spent the day being creative.

My project today was inspired by some very chilly weather that recently visited our area.  Using the new A Winter Wonderland stamp set, I created this wintery scene, covered with ice and snow, along with two coordinating ornaments.

The different layers were created by die cutting cardstock covered with super adhesive sheets, adding Cloud Nine Velvet Glitter, and sponging the edges with Weathered Wood Distress Ink.  In the center is the wonderful scenic image, embossed with Cerulean Embossing Powder on Basic Grey blue decorative cardstock (Periphery from the Zindfandel collection).

Beautiful silver swirls were added to the base layer by stamping the largest flourish stamp from the new Flourishes 1 set with the Mega Tack glue and adding Sonic Silver Velvet Glitter.  This was also done on the glitter covered deer die cut popped up on the front of the scene.

The trees were die cut from chipboard, covered with dimensional glue, and covered with a mix of Diamond Dust Glitter, Twinkling Clouds Sparkle N Soft, and Cloud Nine Velvet Glitter.  These were arranged on the sides at different heights and depth.

The icicles at the top were created by punching one side of a strip of white cardstock with a border punch, adding layers of VersaMark ink and Super Thick Clear Embossing Powder, and sprinkling with Diamond Dust Glitter.  The sentiment, from the Christmas Holly set, is stamped and heat embossed on a glitter covered oval.

I decided to create coordinating ornaments by die cutting sections of a second embossed image and adding these to three popped up die cut layers covered with a combination of Diamond Dust Glitter, Twinkling Clouds Sparkle N Soft, Cloud Nine Velvet Glitter, and Sonic Silver Velvet Glitter.  Distress ink is sponged on some of the edges and pearls and ribbon added.  On the ornament with the silver layer in the center I wanted very light silver pearls so I rubbed Old Silver Inka Gold over some white pearls.  Worked great!

You can find detailed instructions for the card and ornaments in the SNS gallery.

Sparkle N Sprinkle August Challenge

I can’t believe it is already August.  This means it is time for a new challenge at Sparkle N Sprinkle Creative Challenge Blog.   The August challenge is a color challenge.

Color swatch courtesy of Design Seeds®

For my card I used the new Dahlia set, along with the Joseph’s Coat With Patterned Paper Technique in the SNS Tips and Techniques for the background.

I embossed the images with Dark Night EP, colored, and cut them out.  I added Chantilly and Meadow Spark glitter and layered them on a background that was embossed with an embossing folder and then heat embossed with Sparkle EP.

Head on over to Challenge Blog for more inspiration from my fellow designers, along with the challenge details.  There are some exciting changes that you will want to check out.

Now it is time to see what you create with this color palette.

Sparkle N Sprinkle's At The Beach Blog Hop

Welcome to Sparkle N Sprinkle’s “At The Beach” Blog Hop.  If you came from
Donna Ellis’ blog, you are in the right place but if you are just stopping by, you might want to head over to the Sparkle N Sprinkle Blog and start at the beginning to get all of the details.

The hop runs from Thursday, May 9 through Friday, May 10 and the winners will be announced on Saturday, May 11.  Visit each of the designers’ blog to see their take on our theme and leave a comment for a chance at one of the prizes.  Three of the prizes are “hidden” on 3 different mystery designer blogs and the grand prize is a stamp set of your choice.

Here is the designer list:

Marie Berquist (you are here!!)

My first card uses SNS’ new Serena Mermaid set.  After heat embossing her with Dark Night EP on watercolor paper, I colored her with watercolor pencils and cut her out.  I layered her next to a die cut window popped up over some decorative Basic Grey cardstock and the sweet little seahorse.  I used a Martha Stewart border punch to create the shell borders.  For detailed instructions on this card you can visit the SNS gallery here.

My second card is my “not so simple” easel card (see my May 6 post for explanation) using an older but adorable Pigs on Parade set.  I used a combination of dry and wet embossing for the background paper on the card front.  The sparkling waves are created by using the Glitter Masking Technique with Pistachio Glitter and Cobalt Glaze Velvet Glitter.  The Cannon Ball pig image is colored with alcohol markers, die cut using the Out of Bounds/Out of the Box Nesties technique, and added to the front with a Wobble

The card opens to reveal a sandy beach, created with Hit the Beach EP, perfect for sun bathing.  This little pig is popped up on a soft towel of Cloud Nine Velvet Glitter, created with a combination of the Stamping On Glitter technique and Copics on Glitter technique.  Go here for the detailed instructions.

I know the designers have many more wonderful ideas to share so it is time to head over to Cindy Keogh’s blog.  You will love what she has to show you!!

Don’t forget to leave a comment before you leave so you qualify for a chance at one of the great prizes!!

Happy hoppin’ !!
