In Real Life: Baroness

Baroness (from G.I. Joe) by by Lindze A’la Mode

Wouldn't wearing a uniform in public make it difficult to conceal your affiliation with a known terrorist organization?  Yet another question that never occurred to me as a child.

In Real Life: Comic-Con Candids

Comic-Con Candids by Mathieu Young

"Candid in the Chaos" by Mathieu Young

Good cosplay can be a full-time job, just as exhausting as the role of being an actual superhero, if not more so, since you're more photographed. At last year's San Diego Comic-Con, Young decided to shot a few candid shots of attendees taking a much needed break from the rigors of convention life. His photos reveal the other side of cosplay life.  The side in which cosplayers take much needed breaks to ponder the logistical complexities of a much-needed pee break.

In Real Life: Bane

"Bane" Protests in New York City

Community activists United NY staged a costumed demonstration in Manhattan on Thursday to protest against Mitt Romney's economic policies on the final evening of the Republican National Convention. The 13-foot Dark Knight Rises villain was at Bain HQ in Manhattan Thursday with labor rights organization United NY to demonstrate against Mitt Romney's economic policies.

The action made more explicit a connection first observed by conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh: the homophonic relationship between Bain Capital, the private equity firm co-founded by Republican 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney, and Bane, the Batman villain of DC Comics and The Dark Knight Rises. While Limbaugh's extremely tenuous connection of the two was designed to criticize a perceived liberal bias in the then-unreleased Christopher Nolan film, United NY paired Bane with Bain specifically to compare the fictional villain to Romney's real-life company, which came under heavy fire this week in Matt Taibbi's new Rolling Stone piece "Greed and Debt: The True Story of Mitt Romney and Bain Capital."
