Thonia Revealed!

Although I made this mock cover some years ago, I have now begun detailing the Empire of Thonia. Also called the Great Kingdom, this nation has always been a bit of a mystery. Sometimes ally and sometimes rival, Thonia has always been one of the forces in the North, and someone not to be triffled with.

I have chosen to use the name Thonia and other terminology in the style of the DA modules which is my favorite interpretation of Blackmoor. You can see as the project develops here.

What might have been?

This fake cover is made by Knightfall, who recently posted about it on the Piazza. Its a shame that Mystara was never followed up by WotC neither for 3E or 4E, but looking at what happened to the Realms, maybe we are better off? I expect most of the readers of this blog have little interest in these later editions, but I think it is cool that Blackmoor was published for OD&D, BECMI, 3E and 4E. Only a few settings have seen such coverage.

Mystaraspace

What happens to Blackmoor's solar system thousands of years into the future? Around the year 2000, a friend of mine, Marco Dalmonte (DM) and I stated what we calle the Mystara Space Project. After a few years of very interesting discussions however, the project sort of faded out. Many of the original files were sadly lost. Recently however, over at the Piazza, Mystara and Spelljammer enthusiast Chimpman has taken charge of the project for developing Mystara's solar system.

Back in february, I made a mock-up cover for Blackmoorspace. Some of my readers get frustrated by these mock-up covers since they know there is now way they will ever see the products, but at least in this case we have talented fans working on it! (And *ahem* I am helping too ;) )

Spelljammer meets Blackmoor?

The lost Spelljammer Product featuring Blackmoor has now been revealed! Okay so its fake. I made it. But it is always interesting to speculate on what such a product would have featured. We have already touched upon some references to space in the Blackmoor mythos. More theories on the Blackmoor Solar system are being discussed here.
