Landed

After the exciting times we had with the celebrations with the new King, we have landed now slowly on earth and can look back at all the nice memories. I would love to lie down like thiswoman and dream away, but it is still to cold here to do so. When we have a sunny day, there is always a cold strong wind blowing the warmth away. Anyway, we still hope warm spring times will come.

This sculpture lies in the garden of  Nijenhuis Castle and is made by German Werner Stotzer (1931-2010) in 1972 and is named "Die Werra".The explanation I read is a bit complicated," Die Werra" is a river in his birthplace. To depict a river by a naked man or woman goes back to the old Greeks. But his sculpture doesn't reminds of streaming water at all because he uses heavy stone for his sculptures. That's what the text says, it is not my opinion. The name doesn't matter I think, everybody can make his own interpretation.

Weekend Reflections

In the sculpture garden of Nijenhuis Castle this big globe of stainless steel is made by Ronald A. Westerhuis.
In the art the globe mostly symbolizes the world and in this case the globe reflects the world as well.

In the big hollow part you see yourself upside down.

And in the smaller round parts you see yourself from a distance.

Nijenhuis Castle (2)

The interieur of the castle is rather modernized to be able to expose paintings  because it is a museum now. It is a mix of old furniture with the work of the artist Hieron Pessers (1939-2004). He made magical-realistic paintings and this one is called "Hello my love, Goodbye" from 1988.

This one is called "I'm so weary and all alone" from 2001.

Left "In case of dreams" and right "This is no man"

A fireplace with old "Delft Blue"tiles.

Look at the lovely details.

A view through the window.

Nijenhuis Castle

"Het Nijenhuis" Castle is situated between two villages Heino and Wijhe in the Province Overijssel. It dates from 1382 and the nobility lived here for many centuries. After 1934 it was sold and nobody lived here anymore and the building declined. The collector Dirk Hannema started a restoration of the castle and turned it into a museum for his own art collection. He lived here from 1958 until his death in 1984. Since 2004 it is accessesible for public and  has many changing exhibitions.

It is situated in a beautiful area with a garden around full of art.

The weather was beautiful, but nature is still a bit to late, because of the cold we had, no leaves or flowers can be seen.

A view at the sculpture garden.
Tomorrow I'll show you more of the inside of the castle and the sculptures.
At hubby sccollections blog you can see more pictures.
