Terrace

I am feeling a bit nostalgic, those were the carefree days before Corona, enjoying a drink on a terrace in  Amsterdam at the river IJ. Linking to "Our World Tuesday"

Monday Mural

At the other side of the mural I posted last week I saw  this colourful one. Have no further information about it, only a cryptical sign above right, but I like the colours.

Monday Mural

A double portrait of  "Eberhard van der Laan", the beloved late mayor of Amsterdam who died a year ago of cancer. The Dutch artist duo Telmo Miel made the portrait after it became know he had resigned. The work was commissioned by Street Art Today, the street art platform that opened at the former NDSM ship wharf. Linking to "Monday Mural"

Skywatch

Last September, I was waiting for the ferry and saw this strange view, it looks like the cruise-ship has landed in the middle of Amsterdam.

Here a view from the river IJ at the ferry. They look like floating apartment buildings.

Knitting art

I thought the knitting hype in public places was over for some time but last week I discovered one in Amsterdam..

And a little curious one watching the river IJ.

EYE Filmmuseum

Next to th A'DAM Tower is the "EYE Filmmuseum" with exhibitions, movies and restaurants.

We had a tea there with a magnificent view over the river IJ.

In the Museum shop all kind of rubber masks.

Boxershorts?

Movie wings.

And me on a "Gibson Guitar Throne", a variation on  the "Game of Thrones".

At the Ferry

To get to the A'Dam tower of yesterday's post you have to cross the river IJ with the ferry for pedestrians and cyclists. As you can see it was very crowded.

The river IJ is a very busy shipping  river with Cruise ships.

And cargo ships. The captain of the Ferry has to navigate carefully between these giants.

The arrival at the other side.

Seen from above at the tower you can see the crowds.

And the come and go ferries. Had to make these photo's through a window so the colour is a bit green.

Over the Edge

Yesterday I finally visited the A'DAM Tower, a new "must do" in Amsterdam. The almost 100 m high tower belonged to the Shell company but was after they left turned into a hotel, restaurant and a sky deck with a look out over Amsterdam.

The newest attraction is a swing over the edge! I could hear the screams from above!

No way I would try that but the young ones are the daredevils

And there they go.

These boys dared to look down.

And without hands.

The Ferry

Amsterdam is divided in two parts, the north and the rest of the city, by a big river named the IJ.
To get to the north by car or bus you can use the IJtunnel but cyclists and pedestrians have to take the ferry. It is an off and on going connection.

With pretty weather it is a nice boat trip of a couple of minutes. The white building is the Eye Filmmuseum and the former Shell tower is renovated into a hotel, offices and an observation deck with a 360 degree revolving restaurant.

When arriving at the other side the next one is already returning.

The arrival at the north part.

People are always very eager to get off in a hurry.

Go, go, go.

People are not so organized here but everybody seems to find there way.

Art in Amsterdam

Saw some funny art floating in the River IJ in Amsterdam.

And someone sitting in  the window to invite me for an exhibition.

Just some people

Waiting for the ferry gave me the opportunity to observe people.

I liked this gentleman wearing a long coat. You hardly see this anymore,
it is all short sporty jacks nowadays.

EYE

Since April 4 there is a new Museum in Amsterdam the EYE Filminstitute Netherlands, a Dutch centre for film culture and heritage. It is situated along the northern bank of the River  IJ and designed by Viennese architects Delugan Meissl. In the press it was announced that a spaceship had landed, others see a bird in it.

It was Museumweekend and the entrance was free so we decided to have a look and went by ferry to the other side.

It was the "hot spot" of Amsterdam as there were so many people, this is the main entrance with a cafe/restaurant. There are three cinemas inside and an exhibition centre, we only went for the exhibition with short fragments of old movies.

It was a very icy day 9 degrees C (48.2 F) with strong winds, so the terrace was not so inviting.

The children enjoyed themselves with gliding from the tiles at the entrance. Can you see the black stripes they made with their shoes on the brand-new building? Parents just stood there, watched their brood and warned them to be carefull..... I really don't understand this.

Flea- market

I love to hang around at markets, this one is in a huge hangar in the north of Amsterdam "Van Dijk & Co". There was beautiful engraved glasswork from Hongary, I bought two vases. Can't show you, left them unfortunatly in the car of my sister- in- law.
