Blood Angels Knights of Blood Bike Squad - Dark Vengeance - Finished

All that I had to do was add washed to the models and some highlights of the base colours where required. I did not want to spend too much time on these as they are already tricky to paint as rider and bike "joined at the hip" so to speak.

I will have to go over the shading on the red parts of the armour with black wash as the dark brown does not work well enough. Other than that I am happy with the results and will keep working on the rest of the Dark Vengeance set, namely the Librarian and Commander.

Here is the Squad Sergeant.

The first Biker.

 The second Biker.

As a Squad.

The final comment I have on these guys is about the quality of the pictures I took, my camera cant quite get  to grips with the colours and they do not show the different shades that are apparent to the naked eye. I did use Picasa to edit them which helped but not good enough.

Let me know what you think.

Blood Angels Knights of Blood Bike Squad - Dark Vengeance - WIP

I am tackling my next little project, turning the Dark Angels Bike Squad into Knights of Blood. Firstly building the models was easy as this is the GW philosophy with starter sets. However I did regret this later on! Cutting and shaving all the Dark Angels iconography off the bikes did result in damage to the models but it was acceptable.

As usual I went for a black primer, see above.

Then painted in all the base colours using my custom mix for the dark metal armour and Mephiston Red for the rest. This is where I regretted gluing the riders to the bikes. Painting the torsos proved difficult especially the Sergeants robes. The backpacks had to be painted separately also.

Next up to add the shading and the highlights so stay tuned.

Minotaurs - Bikers - Badab War - Finished

Finally managed to get this done! Completed the details namely the dials, displays and headlights on the bikes, the weapons of the riders and the face and shoulder pad of the sergeant. It took much longer than I expected but they look pretty good IMHO. Just a pity the pictures are not as sharp as they should be and my camera has difficulty with rendering red for some reason as you never see the blending in the pictures.

Below are the rest of the pictures for your enjoyment.

Minotaurs - Bikers - Badab War - Part 3

Another small update but progress none the less. Finished all the rest of the metal areas that are not Bronze with Boltgun Metal, followed by a wash of Nuln Oil then a second wash in selected areas only of Devland Mud on the engine parts for oil stains and then a wash of Asurmen Blue on the exhausts for heat stains.

Now all that is left to do are the details!!

Minotaurs - Bikers - Badab War - Part 2

Only some minor progress on my biker unit this time around. All I managed was to paint the red parts with a base of Scab Red then a layer of Blood Red and a Final Highlight with Coat d' Arms Vampire Red. Washed in between with my verdigris mix.

Hope I can get these done soon.

Minotaurs - Bikers - Badab War

Bikers, bikers and more bikers! I bought these guys cheap on eBay quite a few months ago and they were in an awful state. With the 5th edition rules they were a good unit but now in 6th edition it seems they are way better at real T5! Captain with a Storm Shield to soak up all those incoming shots cant be half bad! So out of the box they came and were cleaned up with Dettol and primed black and based as per my norm.

Next up I painted the bronze from Tin Bitz base, Brazen Brass, wash of Thraka Green, drybrush of Brazen Brass, wash of my Verdigris and then a neat drybrush of Brazen Brass again.

For those eagle eyed readers out there, you will have noticed I used a Forge World Minotaur shoulder pad on the squad leader / Captain.

More to follow soon.
