That part of Gaul which is known as Lugdunensis1 con- tains the Lexovii2, the Vellocasses3, the Galeti4, the Veneti5, the Abrincatui6, the Ossismi7, and the celebrated river Ligeris8, as also a most remarkable peninsula, which extends into the ocean at the extremity9 of the territory of the Ossismi, the circumference of which is 62510 miles, and its breadth at the neck 12511. Beyond this are the Nannetes12, and in the interior are the Ædui13, a federal people, the Carnuti14, a federal people, the Boii15, the Senones16, the Aulerci, both those surnamed Eburovices17 and those called Cenomanni18, the Meldi19, a free people, the Parisii20, the Tricasses21, the An- decavi22, the Viducasses23, the Bodiocasses24, the Venelli25, the Cariosvelites26, the Diablinti27, the Rhedones28, the Turones29, the Atesui30, and the Secusiani31, a free people, in whose territory is the colony of Lugdunum32.
