Rev. Mr. Chapin.

Rev. Mr. Chapin, who figured so conspicuously at the Russian dinner in New York, once preached in the Universalist Church in Richmond. He was treated with great kindness by his congregation here, and by the community at large, which is probably the reason he pants for our destruction. He seems to be greatly enamored at present of the Russian Government — the only free Government, except the United States, in the world — and thinks the two will ultimately give laws to the whole of creation. Mr. Chapin is one of the numerous tribe of Yankee Unitarian persons who, having emasculated Christian theology of its distinctive character, busy themselves with politics, which they understand still less than religion. We wish the Czar had him in his dominions, and would put him to school to one of the Greek Patriarchs, or send him to Siberia.
