Swindling.
--James W. Liggett, of Washington county, Md., has been tried and convicted for obtaining $700 from John A. Gordon, of Spotsylvania county, Va., on false pretences. Mr. Gordon's servant had run away, and Liggett visited Mr. G., offering to apprehend him for $700. The money was paid, but Mr. Gordon afterwards discovered that the negro was in jail at Hagerstown, Md., before Liggett made the offer.
