ἢ ληροῦντας ἢ λοιδορουμένους (see critical note), ‘either talking nonsense or using abusive language’. This is better than reading λοιδοροῦντας ἢ λοιδορουμένους, ‘reviling or being reviled,’ since the middle rather than the active of λοιδορεῖν is used.
ἐν ταῖς ἐρημίαις, ‘in solitude,’ as opposed to ἐν ταῖς πρὸς ἀλλήλους συνουσίαις, ‘in the society of one another.’
εὐχομένους, ‘indulging in vain wishes’ (F.).
τῶν ἐνόχων τοῖς εἰρημένοις, ‘those who are liable to my imputations.’ ἔνοχος is originally a legal term ‘bound by’ (= ἐνεχόμενος), so, generally, ‘liable to.’
