στρατεύουσιν ἐπὶ τὰς Αἰόλου νήσους—as this affair is one of the λόγου μάλιστα ἄξια (c. 90, 1) we can see how insignificant were the incidents left unrecorded.
καλουμένας—second attribute, hence the order; c. 54, 5.
νέμονται—the word is used of enjoyment of profits derived, which may or may not be combined with occupation.
ἐν τῇ Ἱερᾷ—still called Vulcano The coins of Lipara show Hephaestus seated, with a hammer. The group of islands, seven in all, is still called Liparian or Aeolian. The full name seems to have been Ἱερὰ Ἡφαίστου—Vulcani nomine sacra it is called in the Aetna.
