Going Over the Edge at Our Creative Corner

Hello there! Hope you are having a fantastic Sunday out there! I'm back again today with my belated Design Team card for this week's Our Creative Corner challenge. Better late then never, right? Sheesh! This week our hostess is the fabulously talented Tui Nathan and here is what she has to say about our "Over the Edge" challenge:
"This week the challenge I have for you is "Over the Edge" - create a card, or paper craft item with a design element that is not restricted to the boundaries of the card edges, and continues to flow off the edge of the card, for instance this could be a die cut element, a sentiment banner, a fussy cut image, ribbon etc.
Push your design to the edge .... and have fun!"

My inspiration for the card came from this image of printed fabric on Pinterest (where else, right?). Click HERE for more info. I am seriously loving this color combo right now.
It was time to bust out one of my all-time favorite stamp sets for this one: Avairy. That chubby little owl always makes me smile. It's tough to see in the photos but the birdcage and the sentiment are heat embossed in Basic Gray for a little added shine. The striped ribbon is my "over the edge" element. It adds a fun pop but still allows the card to squeeze into an envelope...well sort of, all of the popped up layers make this card "chunky" like that sweet little owl. All of the supplies I used are listed at the end of the post.
Here is a quick shot of the inside of the card with the sentiment continued from the front and one more chubby owl, just for fun:
Thanks for visiting today! I sure hope you can play along with us and go "Over the Edge" this week at Our Creative Corner. Please stop by and see what the rest of the gals on the Design Team have created for inspiration:

Awesome Aviary

Happy Monday and Happy November! I am starting out the first day of the month with a cold! Ahh-Choo! Hello, Alka-Seltzer Cold and Flu...we have become great friends today. Such a bummer, as I even had to cancel dinner plans with a friend tonight. :(  Between sneezes and sniffles this morning, I had to whip up a card to get in the mail today.

I used this sketch challenge from Pals Paper Arts:
Then mixed it up with this awesome color combo from The Color Dare (on time this week, phew!):
Color Dare #82
Daffodil Delight
Night of Navy
Old Olive

After making 30+ cards with the Aviary stamp set last month (for a swap), I was a wee bit burned-out on the cuteness of the set. I knew it wouldn't be long though before I wanted to bust out these little birds again. I think it's the chubby, little owl that makes me love this set so much.
The Word Window punched sentiment (from the FYI set) landed there completely on accident. I originally decided to stamp the sentiment directly on the white card stock and wouldn't you know it, I stamped it crooked. Grrr, I hate it when that happens! I decided NOT to give into my OCD tendencies and re-stamp the whole bird image again. I just went with a different approach. I ended up really liking the look of the sentiment embossed in white, so I will just pretend I meant to do it all along. But since I already shared it, the secret is out...whoops! I blame the cold meds. ;)

For some final touches I rounded all of the corners to play off the round bird-cages (and that chunky owl, HaHa!) I added a fun flower and some sparkle to keep things bright and happy. Then I thought it would be cute to bust the bird friends out of their cages on the inside. Hope you like it! :)

Happy Bird-Day!

Hello everyone! Hope you are having a terrific Tuesday, so far. I thought I would post my completed swap cards today, since I have been under the weather since yesterday and haven't been getting much done in the creative department. Blah! :(
About a month ago, I entered my first online swap. It was to use ONLY new release sets in the SU! catalog. After everyone was signed up with their stamp sets, the magic number to create was 30 cards. Why would I want to sign up for one of those 6 card swaps when I could tackle 30? (*read with semi-sarcastic undertone*)

My chosen stamp set was Aviary and let me tell you, I broke that set in pretty well with this project! 30 cards for the swap, plus a couple more for me. With this many birds, I was close to starring in a remake of an Alfred Hitchcock movie! Eeek!
This whole endeavor took over 2 1/2 days to accomplish, but it was a fun little project. I can't wait to see what everyone else has created when the cards are returned next week. I will post some pictures!

Here is a close-up of my finished project:
