Thrifted Table, Lamp, Books Etc...

I wanted to get new tables for my basement, but I knew I wanted them to be funky and like nothing anyone else has. I was at DI, and found two of these for $10! $5 each!!! I still needed tops for them, and again, I was at DI, and found the glass tops on another table for $10 each. I painted them from a weird dingy cream to a chartreuse yellowy-green. I LOVE THEM! I say, "them." I haven't brought the other table in yet, as I don't know what I am going to put on it. It is still clogging up the garage.

The lamp shade was $1.    The lamp base was $1.

Both from DI.

The books were $1 each at DI. I LOVE the reader's digest books. They always have fabulous color on the whole jacket.

The pedestal was $1.    The plate on the pedestal was $1.

Again from DI.

The plant was $3 on clearance at Michael's, and the bird cage was $20 at Tia Pan. I know I don't have anything in it yet, I am still looking for the right thing.

So far, I LOVE how it is turning out! I am still working on the rest of the basement, and will show you more as it comes along.

Have a Happy and Creative Day!

Laundry Room Remodel - Part 2

I am half way there with my laundry room remodel.
If you remember,

Laundry Room Remodel - Part 1,

this is the next step. I am not all the way finished, but I thought I would show my progress.

I told our cabinet company what I had envisioned, and he was able to do EXACTLY what I wanted! I had them bring all the pieces to me, so I could paint them the same as what I am planning to paint the bottom of the walls. I painted the other side of the wrong piece... hence the wood color on the side next to the hutch. HOW ANNOYING?!? I thought I was so smart... I guess not. I am going to have to pull the hutch out, and paint the side.

I am starting to play with accessorizing the hutch, and a good amount of the things it holds are from the DI... all the glass canisters, the gray pot, the cup that holds the plant, and the colorful metal container.

I love the little birdies. When I saw them yesterday, I knew I had to have them, and didn't know what to do with them, but DL told me to hang them on the hutch... brilliant!!! I heart them, and advice from great girlfriends!

I am having a hard time fitting everything on the screen of my camera now that everything is in. I do LOVE the shelving unit though, and especially the bead board backing!!! I had them build it so I could put both laundry basket's on the middle, and out of the way. Perfect!

I think a laundry room should be as happy a place as possible, and that's why I chose this bright fresh color. It's a Behr paint from Home Depot, and it's called {Herbal Garden}. Makes me happy, happy, happy!!!

Now, on to the bottom of the walls... my man doesn't want to do anything too invasive behind the washer and dryer. He doesn't even want to move them, and I don't blame him. So... these are the options for us. (Anything we do, would just go down about a foot behind the washed and dryer.)

Bead board and top molding
Colonial style vertical boards with a basic horizontal molding on top
Horizontal top mold, and squares below.

What do you think would be best? They style of the rest of my house lends it's self more to the horizontal top mold with squares below, but I did put bead board in the back of the cabinet...

Please leave a comment! I want to hear what you have to say :)

Laundry Room Remodel, Part 1

I am so excited about making my laundry room look just the way I want it to look. I have a grand plan in mind, and can't wait to see it completed. So, here goes:

Meet My Laundry Room

When we built our home, we did construction grade with many things, as I wanted something a little more custom than the builder was providing at the time, and I also didn't want to pay the builder mark-up on things. And, I really feel like I like to be in a home for a while to get the feel for how I want it to look.

So, this is how our laundry room came, with just a big long shelf that ran from wall to wall. It was very functional, but not very cute.

I, with the help of a neighbor, cut our old kitchen table down, reattatched the legs and casing to a counter top we bought from Home Depot. It worked for a while, but I am ready for something more!

Do you see the color of paint I want to use that is on the wall in the picture above?

Here's the tear out...

It already feels more open!

My bff DL gave me this fabulous hutch! I LOVE it. I think it was made for this space. It fit within one inch! Perfect! Thanks DL! You're the best!

I don't have it decorated all the way yet, I just grabbed a few things that were floating around my house. I have to fix the one door, and get a glass panel put in the other, but other than that, it is perfect!

I have big plans for the rest of the room, including a custom piece I am having made by a local cabinet company. I thought about building it myself, but I want it to look really nice, and am not that confident in my building abilities yet.

I will be posting more pics in the future.

New lights... before and after

I have never liked the arrangement of the lighting in our family room, and I don't take credit for it either. Wayne agreed to put in new fixtures, at least until we can put in 6 to 8 cans around the fan. This is what we had yesterday:

I forgot to take a picture until after the power was off, and I had the first light out.

This is what we have now. Aren't they lovely!?! I have to say puting in a fan, is much more work than a regular light! Man, I had NO IDEA!

It makes a little more sense for the for now, and I am hoping the fan will help out with the power bill this summer :)

I love the finish on the glass especially! It works well with my colors.

I went to change the light in the bathroom, and the builder didn't put a box in the wall... it was just wires poking out of dry wall!!! I'm in limbo with that one, as I don't think it is up to code. I am waiting to hear from the electrician before I install the new one :(
