Thanksgiving Kids Table

Last year I hosted Thanksgiving at my house for the first time. I didn't have enough room to put the kids at the grown-up table, and I wanted them to still feel special, and I made their table extra colorful and festive!

I used place mats I already had, and just cut a square of orange burlap to punch up the color, and go under the salad plate.

I used the same turkey napkin holders as I had on the adult table, but made kiddish napkins for them to use. I also made the tablecloth. I got all the fabric at Hobby Lobby, as well as the pumpkins on each plate, and the centerpiece.

The kids loved it, and I think they felt special!

This is what I plan to do this year for the centerpiece... I got the idea from One Charming Party. She has great ideas. You should pay her blog a visit!

These darling corn cobs are so fun, and unexpected! I can't wait to get together with my crafty girlfriends and make them!

I plan to use the same linens and dishes this year as I did last year, but I want to make the darling turkey for the center piece, and corn for each child.

Thanksgiving Table

I admit it...

Yes, I love dishes.
Yes, I love linens.
Yes, I love having a formal dining room.

If you are very familiar with my blog, you know I love decorating my formal dining room for the holidays, and I especially love Thanksgiving. This is my formal dining table which stays up through the month of November.

I LOVE my turkey napkin holders!

These napkin holders are from Robert's. I got them last year.

The goblets are from Honk's Dollar Store.

My nice thoughtful husband got me the set of dishes and silverware. I have service for 24, and I love to use them whenever I get a chance.

How are you decorating for Thanksgiving?

One of my NEW favorite OLD things!!!

So, I had two events that I am hosting this month... Sophie's baptism luncheon, and a baby shower. I thought about buying paper goods for each, and it seemed like a waste of money, and is not the most environmentally friendly thing to do.

I was at... you guessed it... DI the other day, and found these serving dishes and matching cups, and knew I had to have them. They had 30 matching pieces, and I was able to talk the manager into cutting the price almost in half, as I was buying the whole set. The next day, I found more trays that matched at Savers, and the next week, I found even more at another DI. I believe I have around 45 altogether.

What I like about glass dishes:

They are super sturdy, and don't bend when they hold a lot of food.
They are environmentally friendly.

They look beautiful!

They bring a different kind of elegance to a party.
Becasue they are from DI, I am not worrying if one gets broken. (Nothing did break, by the way, and we had a bunch of kids here.
)
It was fun to watch people's faces as they picked them up, and were surprised to be holding a real dish!

I was too busy during the luncheon to take any pictures of food on the plate. I will try to remember on Saturday! It really did look pretty though. :)

Spring Table with Russian Dolls!

This table is like the spring weather... warm and cold all at the same time. Let me start with my most favorite set of dishes. My mom got these for me for my birthday in December. I had intended to use them just for Christmastime, but when it came time to take them down... I couldn't do it! So, I left the plates on a plate rack in my kitchen, and left the salt and pepper shakers on my stove top. They still make me happy, happy, happy every time I look at them!

Hum... I wonder if I hold the record for the most pictures of my salt and pepper shakers in one blog entry. Well, it's my blog, I can do what I want - right?

I was looking at a blog the other day, and saw a blog where the lady always uses the glass apothecary's, and I thought to myself, "I think I need one of those." Well, I went to DI today, and what happened to be sitting there with a $2 sticker? This cute glass apothecary! I tell you, the DI will give you what you are looking for if you put it out there in the universe :)

Now, on to the second part of this post:

When I saw this blog entry on one of my very favorite blogs, Tater tots and Jello, I thought to myself... "Why couldn't I have thought of that???" She had the most darling, happy table runner, tutorial that she posted. So I talked to a few of my sewing friends, and we knew we each HAD to have one. We got together the other night, and had fun making them. You can find a link to the tutorial here.

I just bought burlap, and 15 different 1/8-of-a-yard strips of fabric, rickrack, cotton backing, and quilt binding.

Didn't it turn out SOOOO cute! I love it! Thanks for the great idea Tater tots and Jello!

By the way... we each went to a particular fabric store at different times, and happened to get the same lady to help us with the cutting, and by the time the third one of us got the same measurements cut, she knew exactly why. She even wrote down the name of the blog so she could check it out!

And now back to the dishes! I couldn't not post pictures of each one. They are all hand painted, and SO DARLING!

Hum... maybe I should give each of them a good Russian name...
