The Witch's Britches!!!

Britches

(Noun) Trousers ending above the knee.

So, I had this idea brewing in my head for a while... I woke up at 2 am one morning, and knew I had to make it. I don't know if waking up was pregnancy related, or inspirational... maybe a little of both?!? Anyhow... I started cutting and sewing, and this is what I came up with...



I Love my Laundry Room, and didn't want to leave it out during the month of October. So, why not make a banner for it? Yes, I am talking like my Laundry Room is a person...

The clothing portion of this banner was sewn. I prefer sewing. I am sure it would be darling in paper as well.

Due to the fact that I did this in the middle of the night, and didn't know if it would turn out or not, I didn't take any photos as I went. It turned out cuter than I thought. I will include my patterns, and you can probably figure it out. Like I say... it was the middle of the night when I made this!!! I just kind of winged it, and didn't keep record of my measurements. Sorry.

If you want to give it a try, you will need:

1) White Card Stock and The Printable I Have Included
2) Scissors or Paper Punch (I used 1 1/2 inch square and 2 inch scalloped square)
3) Any Type of fabric and Ribbon You Want! You can just use scraps.
4) Batting or cotton Balls - be creative!
5) Twine, Wire or Ribbon to string everything on
6) Beads if you want. I took a candy corn necklace and bracelet apart that I got at JoAnne's for $1 each.
7) Six small clothespins I got from my neighbor (Thanks Kristen!) I am sure you can find them in craft stores though :)

Here we go:

Britches

1) Cut out 2 fabric pieces for the britches. Sew around the whole thing, leaving the top open. Turn right side out.
2) Fluff out cotton balls, and stick them in the britches. Or fill with batting.
3) Baste stitch the waist and each leg. Gather and top stitch.
4) Top stitch the ribbon on the waist, and lace on the legs. Turn around the back.

Brazier

1) Cut out 4 circles.
2) Put two circles together, and sew 3/4 of the way around the edge of the circles. Turn right side out.
3) Pin the circles together in a pleasing angle. Whatever you think looks best...
4) Sew the strap (ribbon) around the bottom. Leave it as long as you think it will need to be.
5) Attach ribbons to circles for the straps. Attach the other side of the ribbon to the back of the bottom band. Just like a regular bra. You want to adjust things to whatever looks best.

Socks

1) Cut out socks.
2) Sew up the edges, leaving the top open.
3) Optional: tie ribbon around the top or each.

Wording Portion Banner


1) Feel free to use this printable.
2) Cut it out however you prefer.
3 Thread beads on in the pattern you prefer, then tape the letters on in between them where you want. I taped them, because I used a kind of twine, and the the letters were to small to punch holes in.
4) Hang up and be HAPPY when you do your laundry!

Second Things Second...

Spooking up my porch for Halloween is a bit of a process. I wanted to share one aspect of it with you today - my pillows.

When I saw this * NOTE - I just got the updated infor from the seller, and the image is available at her etsy store. Just click the green "this"* witch silhouette on etsy, I knew I had to use it! So, as not to offend anyone, I have to tell you that I paid for it. I didn't include that info in the original post, but it seems people are worried I didn't. It was $3.50ish, maybe $3.49. I purchased it on August 29, 2010. I would not be advertising the image if I didn't pay for it. I thought it would be nice to send business to the etsy store where I purchased the silhouette. Anyway, that said... I have been wanting to make cute covers for my porch pillows for Halloween for a while. Fun fabric and a cute Halloween silhouette...? The perfect combination! Here is the process. I have added the "Trick Or Treat" wording (which I created myself) in printable form at the bottom for you!!!



***Another update***

After a number of questions about it, I thought I better post this... I got the fabric at JoAnne's. It is a thicker decorator type fabric, but it was regularly I think $10 a yard. I think I got it for $6 or $7. On the side, it says "Original Copyright Design by Mill Creek Fabrics." I live in Utah, and got it at the Centerville store towards the back. Hope that helps :) So, the lady that won the calendar also made the pillows, and gave the suggestion of putting buttons on the pillow to make the silhouette interchangeable for the different holidays. I thought that was SO SMART (You could also use velcro or snaps so you couldn't see anything!) She said she had already found a fun Christmas silhouette. Charon... you're brilliant! Thanks for the suggestion!

What you'll need:

1) Iron Transfer Paper (I used Avery Light Fabric Transfers 81/2X11)
2) Fabric to transfer the image onto
3) Silhouette of your choice (There are tons out there from esty, and free ones on google images)
4) Pillow Fabric
5) 9X12 sheet of white felt to go behind the image if the fabric is sheer
6) Felt for the back
7) Thread, Scissors, Iron

Steps:

1) Print the image on the transfer paper, and iron to fabric, as per directions on the label.

2) Lay the liner felt behind the image. I did this so the image fabric would look dimensional. You could iron the image onto thicker fabric, fray the edges, and just sew it to the top fabric if you want a more rustic look.


3) Fold in sides.

3) Pin and top stitch onto front of pillow fabric.



4) Envelope sew the pieces of felt onto the back. I used felt so I wouldn't have to finish any edges. To make an envelope for the back, cut two pieces the same width as the front of the pillow, and half the length plus two inches (so they will overlap horizontally in back). Attach one at a time, and sew in place. Pieces will overlap. This is the best (and easiest) way to make a pillow ever!!!



5) Trim all the excess thread and turn right side out. See how the edges are raw, but won't fray? Love it!


6) Now you have it... the perfect Halloween Pillow for any decor!!!

Added bonus... I made this printable, and thought you might like to use it as well. The writing is already backwards to be used for iron transfer paper. Please feel free to use it, and tell your friends about it!

Most Asked About Item Of The Halloween Season (by my kids, of course!)

A couple years ago, a few girlfriends and I saw the Pottery Barn Kids Advent Calendar. We knew we wanted one, but didn't want to pay for it! I also know that I wanted it to match the colors I use for Halloween. So, we decided to make our own. This is mine...

Properly plumped and ready for my little goblins to drool over.

This is how it looks before being properly stuffed!

I start early finding items for my calendar. Some stores, like Michael's and JoAnne's get their Halloween dollar section in early - beginning in August! I also start hearing about it from my kids in August. This year I told them if I heard one more thing about the Halloween Advent Calendar, there would be no Halloween Advent Calendar at our house this year. It didn't work. They still talk about it, but who can blame them? Look how cute it is!!!

Here are some of the pocket stuffers.

You notice the t-shirt? I know it won't fit in a pocket, but I buy my kids Hallooween t-shirts every year for around $5 each. (They make nice pajamas after October.) I put a little piece of card stock I have cut into the shape of a t-shirt. They pull it out the first day, and get their shirts.

I used to think I had to keep everything in the wrappers, but now, I unwrap things if the packaging is too large, and just stick the stuff in. Looks cuter that way anyway.

The individual pockets are SO DARLING! I have to show you just a few of my favorites up close and personal.

Cute - right? I used some felt stickers, and some heavy dimensional paper stickers. At first, I thought I would stick to just the felt stickers, but there were SO MANY darling high quality paper stickers, that I just couldn't resist, and started using them as well. I even ended up covering up a few of the numbers with the cute little characters.

This can cost as much to fill every year as you want. You can do candy only, or you can go a little nuts - like me. The kids are only young once - right?
