Snow Falling

Today we are closed - which is our new normal for Mondays since we are open on Sundays now (as of this past Labor Day).  However, today there is snow so we're happy to have the excuse to watch from the window and relax with some stitching.  Or catch up on myriad tasks from holiday prep to year-end paperwork!  Does that sound like your day too?

Since our weather has been variable - you may want to call and confirm our local conditions before you head out our way this week.  Our weather from one side of town to the other can be different and especially if you are coming from the north or the south...

We've got some great new fabrics - and we're playing with double gauze now too (these latest two are nani iro), great for wearables and perfect for infinity scarves - the one size fits all quick gift!  Just in case you haven't quite got all your gifts planned out just yet!

We've added some great projects to the shop displays - and we have some ideas at the ready if you need a quick gift for a quilter or a last minute project or just some final stocking stuffers to round out our shopping.

Felt ornaments are a great craft for the kids and you can keep it simple and use glue and glitter for keeping it simple or get fancy with extra stitches and buttons depending on how dedicated your crafters are.  We have a variety of wool felt colors to choose from and loads of floss, some holiday sequins and fancy ribbons too!  The kart paper/fabric tags you see hanging in the photo above are also great projects to add a personal touch to your gift giving and creative projects.  We have this product in silver grey and kraft brown.  You can color, stitch, paint, glue...and just about everything else on this product besides sew it!  Lots of possibilities - we've added it to some of our tote bags recently.

Just a reminder we're closed on Monday's (even when we don't have snow!).

What we're working on!

We have been working on finishing...all in the hopes of starting something new right?  These improv bowtie blocks of mine sat around for some time, and finally got to a finish recently.  I think this one is "Ode to a Banker", the modern country fabric mixed with a few solids for the bow ties, and a grey flannel like peppered cotton for the background.  The kicker is the blue and white stripe 'shirting' that I used for the back.  Good to be done!  The inspiration for this project came a quilt by Mary Dugan - I've linked to her blog below.  You might just get inspired from one of her projects too!

We are gearing up for some english paper piecing fun with Jane - if you've been thinking about trying this versatile and portable hand-piecing style Jane is here to get you started!  We have a basic class coming up on the 21st and if you really get addicted, we've got an ongoing support group you can join. Both classes are listed on our website.

And if you missed the Gingerbread house classes with Suz, we now have a pattern available and there's plenty of time to whip up an entire village before the holidays!  These gingerbread houses of wool felt will last for years, no calories and they are alot of fun to personalize.

We hope you have a chance to get out and enjoy the amazing fall colors and find some time for stitching too!

Just a reminder - we're OPEN on Sunday's and CLOSED on Monday's now.  We so appreciate your support and business and hope you can adjust to this new schedule!

One month into 2016

Wow...where did January go?  We did get some store clean-up accomplished along with year-end inventory, but we still have a long way to go on the path to organization!  A little bit of sewing mixed into the daily chore routine seems like a good balance right?

If you've admired this quilt in the past that features the contemporary color combination of yellow, black and grey - we are getting ready to retire it, and have 2 kits left, 25% off if you'd like to grab one up for a quick finish.  It makes a healthy throw size project so a versatile option for gifting or freshening up your decor.  Quilt features the Cosmopolitan line from Benartex.

And we just received a new shipment of wool felt - perfect for valentines projects and we've added some spring colors too.  This felt heart garland is a quick option and you can find the tutorial here on Betz White's website.

Our other recent projects include this fresh version of the Charming Fractions quilt - a fat quarter friendly and multi-size project.  Just goes to show what a difference the fabric makes - this is the same pattern we used to feature our australian fabric collection.

And for some new fabric - we have a bit more than what is showing here as always but these are a few of the new groups we've added to the shelves.  We also have charm packs available for this mixologie group so if you like a variety of geometrics this is a great collection.

Holiday options in July

Well...we thought we'd turn up the heat...oh yeah, it's already hot outside, so now it's time to really DO something about preparing ahead for the holidays.  No pressure, but if you're like me, I always think about starting earlier, and then, sure enough the heat is on and you know what day it is.

Here is a new project featuring just 5 fabrics, you could even do with with just 4, so if you  have a favorite fabric and want to feature it this is the perfect throw size quilt.  Did I mention quick too?!  We have a kit with this wild rose fabric, and the pattern is a great one by Villa Rosa designs - a versatile pattern option to have in your bag of tricks.

And then - we do have just a few new fabrics for the holidays...love this little woody car hauling a christmas tree...

A couple of the metallic prints feature gorgeous stripes - perfect for the 60-degree table runner!  Have you thought about these for hostess gifts, your favorite hair stylist, teacher, etc...you know the perfect gift to have on hand for someone?

We thought we'd turn down the heat a bit with this wintery blue and cream collection called Snowbird by Laundry Basket - a few batiks are thrown into the mix as Edyta does best.  We have a couple of the batiks, a variety of the prints in shades of blue and a few jelly rolls and charm packs for this group, but they are going fast.

Since we were wanting to get that wintery wonderland feeling, we hung up a few snowflakes and a couple of snowy owls stitched from wool felt.  These can be a great tree ornament, decoration for a package...or just fun to display!  The website we found the pattern on is amazing - almost every bird I can think of she has created a pattern for.  You gotta check Down East Thunder Farm's website!

Happy stitching!
