Palampore Tree of Life Quilt

Have you seen the finished quilt?  We and by that I mean Suz, finished her quilt and we have it hanging on display along with the pattern she created for us!  The pattern has some mix and match options where you can combine different border sizes and switch up blocks if you want.  It is all centered around the fabulous panel designed by Mary Koval for Windham Fabrics.  The panel has so many color choices you can emphasize what you prefer and the gorgeous toile border comes in three colors sure to meet your design preferences!  If you mention this blog post and want to purchase both the panel and pattern, we're offering it at 10% off this week!

As with most projects - seeing them is always better in person, the colors and textures come to life and you get a better feel for the details.  The Palampore quilt is certainly one of those projects - as are these great wool pieces below.  We are setting things up for another wool and stitch class beginning in January - the perfect opportunity to practice some embellishing stitches on a wool applique project of your choosing. You can sign up and see more of the details here.  These two photos are for exclusive patterns Suz designed for us - they would be great on a project bag, pillow or framed on the wall.  So if you don't have a project in the works - we can set you up!

And of course we have some great new fabrics to wedge onto the shelves - so you'll want to gather up a new idea or two so you can jumpstart your quilting year with something fresh and fun!

The Palampore is here!!

Well the goods are pouring in, you can tell I had too much fun back in October at Quilt Market in Houston!  The very special Palampore panel has arrived, which coordinates with the Tree of Life fabric collection.  All are designed by Mary Koval for Windham fabrics.  The Palampore is quite large, and pretty unique.  We are working on plans for a quilt, but haven't got one whipped up just yet...The amazing toile print comes in red, blue and brown and is pretty spectacular along with the Palampore panel.  We have it posted on the website so you can take a look at it there, the colors are much better in person so stop by soon to see the one we have hanging up in the classroom.

And of course, we wouldn't just stop at a little bit of new fabric...we have lots of new collections including more australian prints to add to our initial shipment.

Anticipating 2015

This Pies n' Tarts work-in-progress is coming along...it is a slow process, perfect for savoring the luxury of time for hand-stitching.  It is growing row by row and I 've got a few few more tarts to applique down and another few circles ready to put onto blocks.  Watch for more in 2015!

Tree of Life Palampore Panel

By Mary Koval for Windham Fabrics

This reproduction is an excellent example of a typical Palampore hand painted in England ca. 1775.  It combines a complex and elaborate design depicting a wide variety of plants, flowers and birds. The “tree of life” motif is typical of most palampores and is used as a symbol to celebrate birth, marriage and special occasions.
