Happy Halloween! Original Big Eye Wednesday Addams in a Cemetary Painting...

So, I didn't finish my scarecrow painting, my massive household project has been eating almost all of my time and energy; but Wednesday Addams and I wanted to wish you a happy, safe, and spooky Halloween (okay the safe is from me...).  The painting is 11"x14" acrylic with texture in some of the cemetary tombstones on canvas, framed.

Original Big Eye Gothic Wednesday Addams Painting + Art Prints & ACEO Prints! Allusions and Allegories Exhibit by Jasmine Becket-Griffith Part II at the Corey Helford Gallery...

"Full of Woe" Original 11"x14" Acrylic Painting on a Canvas Here

This week my featured painting is "Full of Woe," an original fantasy painting.  This gothic Wednesday Addams inspired piece is set in a cemetery.  Wednesday has big brown eyes and her signature braids.  The original has some texture on the tombstones.  The art has a soft lowbrow surreal feel...

Most of my art is also available on my website at lisarusso.com; however, on the first Tuesday of the month, I like to put some art prints and LE ACEO prints on ebay at a lower promotional rate for the duration of the auctions...  This month, my theme is Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, with a bit of Wednesday thrown in; you may see them here.

Allusions and Allegories by Jasmine Becket-Griffith at the Corey Helford Gallery Part II

I went to see the Allusions and Allegories Exhibit by Jasmine Becket-Griffith at the Corey Helford Gallery some time ago.   She is one of my favorite artists and has a wonderful facebook page here.   I don't always go to openings, but this artist is enormously sweet, she even took a photo with me that I shared in Part I here!  The show was filled with so many beautiful pieces, I really want to share them all.  This is Part II of what will eventually be a three part series, I'll link them as I go.  The Allusions and Allegories Exhibition is CLOSED, but the gallery may have some of this artist's works available.

Sketchbook West Las Laguna Gallery Show Opening, Paintings & Sketchbooks!

Me (artist Lisa Isabella Russo) with my painting "Full of Woe" above me and "Waiting" by Jennifer Kimberly Carberry Landis to the right

edit: here is one of the sketches that correlates to her by me (Lisa Isabella Russo)

I went to the Sketchbook West Exhibition at Las Laguna Gallery opening!  The people there were extremely nice and I enjoyed my visit greatly.  My Wednesday Addams inspired painting "Full of Woe" was selected to be featured at the Sketchbook West Las Laguna Gallery Show.  There are two corresponding sketches in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.  The sketchbook is displayed at the Sketchbook West Exhibition along with the sketchbooks of additional artists.  I've picked some of my favorites of the paintings and some of the sketches by some of the artists to share here, but I didn't see anywhere near all of the sketchbooks.  There were so many sketchbooks, each unique and wonderful.

They scanned in all of the sketchbook images and had them rotating and displayed on this screen!

My Wednesday Addams inspired painting "Full of Woe" was selected to be featured at the Sketchbook West Las Laguna Gallery Show.  Here she is all framed and ready to go!

She has a corresponding sketch in my tiny sketchbook that measures 3.5x5.5 inches.  I've shared some of the sketches that are within here, but some will be available for viewing for the first time at the show.  The sketchbook will be displayed at the Sketchbook West Exhibition along with the sketchbooks of additional artists.  There will be a mix of fantasy, floral, animal, and assorted sketches within my sketchbook.  The gallery will have white gloves available for looking through the sketchbooks.  I'm hoping to be at the opening, but I will also update at what time I will be there when I have a better idea of when that will be.  I very much enjoy looking at artist's sketches, so I am looking forward to seeing the show!

Here is a sketch of a camellia.  I love the long blooming season of these flowers, I am often blessed by their beauty when I visit Descanso Gardens.  I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + December Sketches, Sketch 9, Cedar Waxwing Bird...

In this original work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I've come back to something I thought I had finished...  She had little spikey bangs that I painted to mask a bit of a problem with my gesso under coat.  I decided I wasn't pleased with that solution, so I went back in and sanded down the problems.  Now I've repainted her forehead and plan to do a little more shading and then I'll call her done.  Again...  I feel that as long as a painting isn't sold or committed to a show as originally shown, it's my prerogative to alter it if I think I can make a change for the better.  I'm not quite done with her yet, but I'm glad I decided to go in and make the change...

This big eyed gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of The Addams Family on an 11"x14" canvas in acrylics.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

As a bonus, I'm adding this piece at the sale print rate as I feel she's wonderful for the season, or anytime of year, but I just finished her yesterday so this is the soonest I could add her to the group...

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + October Sketches, Sketch 17, Anemone Flower...

In this original work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I've been working on her features.  I feel like I still have more work to do on her lips and then I shall work on her top.  I don't think I've painted braids before, I think I'm going to have to do a practice sample on my test canvas before I paint her hair...

This big eyed gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" acrylic painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.

I'm prepping some of my paintings for the Hallow's Eve and Day of the Dead Celebration Salon Style show at the Neutra Institute Gallery & Museum!  The show will open on October 22nd and close November 13th, I still need to find out the hours, I'll post an update when I know...

Here is a sketch of a flower.  I believe it is based on an anemone flower.  I'm unsure if I'll paint it or not, but I did enjoy sketching it.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + October Sketches, Sketch 10, Butterfly...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I've started on her skin tones.  I still have many layers to go before her face is done, but this is where she is right now.  I also need to paint her features and finish her blouse and then it's hair, but I will be working on her face for quite a while before then...

This big eyed gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + September Sketches, Sketch 30, Iris Flower...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I've painted her eyes and I'm working on her blouse and neck.  I still have quite a ways to go with her, but she is wonderful to paint...  I think I may work on her skin tones in her face next before I paint the collar and finalize her blouse.

This big eyed gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of an iris.  I am working on developing this into a painting, it will be a small 8"x10" and I'll be using the oils, I still have a lot to learn about working with them, the little purple rose went well, but this will be a bit bigger.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in September.  This is day 30.  I'm considering trying Inktober, a challenge to do ink sketches for the month of October, but I may be going out of town at some point and I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up.  I may give it a try anyway, but we'll see...  I've been challenging myself to sketch daily since February and I've really enjoyed it, but I may not be able to keep my challenge to myself even with rough sketches if I have to leave town...

This is a rough sketch.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + September Sketches, Sketch 16, Angel...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I'm finished with the background, I think the cemetery has a nice ambience.  Next I get to start on her, I think I'll be painting her eyes next, one of my favorite things to paint...

This big eye gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a Gothic cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

Here is a sketch of a big eyed maiden.  She has hair piled up on her hair and flowing down around her...  I think she is most likely an angel fairy, although she could also be a mermaid or a goddess.  I'm unsure if I'll paint her or not, but I did enjoy sketching her.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in September.  This is day 16.   She is also face 16 for the 29 faces challenge in September.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + August Sketches, Sketch 15, Daylily Flower...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I'm working on the background.  I've painted in the lawn and some trees, but I still have a bit more work to do on the lawn before I move on to the toombstones...

This big eye gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a Gothic cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + August Sketches, Sketch 8, Sleepy Kitten...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I'm now happy with the clouds in the sky part of the background.  I still need to paint the lawn and the toombstones before I move on to the girl.  I think I have an idea of where I'm heading now though...

This big eye gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a Gothic cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + July Sketches, Sketch 1, Butterfly...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I've done some painting on the under layers...  I've applied a texture to the gravestones and painted a bit of the background as an underpainting.  I'll be painting over all of this as I continue on, but it gives me a bit of a feeling of where I'm going with it.

This big eye gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a Gothic cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

WIP Gothic Big Eye Wednesday Addams Art Original Painting Work in Progress + June Sketches, Sketch 17, Seed Pod...

In this original acrylic work in progress WIP big eye gothic maiden painting I've only just transferred my sketch over and painted the edges black...  I like to pick a color that complements the piece to put on the edges, but it doesn't end up being perfect as I don't fret if a bit of the paint from the painting itself goes over the edges a bit.  I've tried doing the edge last, but couldn't do it cleanly enough.  This way there isn't a lot of glaring white, but the painting itself is the priority.

I'll be starting with the background next.  This big eye gothic beauty is inspired by Wednesday Addams of the Addams Family and she is set in a Gothic cemetery.  This is an 11"x14" painting on gallery wrapped canvas.

This is a work in progress, but I also usually post at least one finished piece on Tuesdays if you'd like to come to visit!  You also may see some of my finished paintings at www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.

Here is a sketch of a seed pod.  I found it one day while I was taking a walk.  I'm not sure what kind of a plant it's from, but it looks like the seed has already left the pod.  It measures two to three inches and feels like wood.  I picked it up thinking I might paint on it, but I really rather like it as it is...  I doubt I'll paint it, but I did enjoy sketching it.

I've decided to try and do a sketch a day in June.  This is day 17.

Art Sketch of a Big Eye Gothic Wednesday Addams...

Here is a sketch of a big eyed gothic maiden.  She is inspired by Wednesday Addams, she's such a wonderful character.  I still have some aspects of this sketch that I am not too sure about, but I'd definitely like to paint her.  I am moving towards a more final sketch...  I'm not fast enough to paint all of the paintings I would like to paint, so I try to make sure the sketch is the best I can do and that the subject really speaks to me.

This is a rough sketch.  You may see some of my finished paintings at http://www.lisarusso.com if you'd like.
