New Year's Eve Countdown

31 Dec 2010

Seems to be meeting up quite a few times with my primary school friends after losing touch for so many years! (thanks to facebook, we found each other again and have gathered a few times in just this year alone)

Decided to book a hotel room to have steamboat and countdown to New Year.

A picture with the 2 prettiest babes of Pri 6N, Shujun (on the left) and Agnes (on the right).

Group picture! Having fun with the timer.

Played bingo at night and Agnes won a pair of GV movie tickets =)

She deserved it since she was the one who coordinated and prepared the food for us.

I got lucky too! Won the complimentary buffet breakfast during the 2nd round. And Lee Hui won the same thing on the 3rd round. haha.. so I had a sumptuous breakfast with Lee Hui in the morning before heading home. yums!

Happy New Year, Everyone!

2011 will be a good year =)

24 Dec 2010

This year marks the 8th year, family 4 celebrated xmas =)

It was held at junlin's condo this time. Seems like the xmas party is starting later and later. There was only a few of them around the bbq pit when we arrived.

We had BBQ by the poolside.

The ladies from family 4.

Exchange xmas gift! This yr, I'm suppose to buy a gift for huifen.

And I got a pretty namecard holder and an evening clutch from ching yee.

Finally, a group photo!

2 new faces this time as huifen and meiling brought their boyfrens along =)

We took this picture cos we were in pink

(meiwei in pink short, but alas, the picture did not capture it.)

ysing still like to be our background. haha..

Had an enjoyable time at Jun's. However, did not stay long and was already feeling sleepy when the rest started playing games. So it was home sweet home for me and qi after 2plus am in the morning.

Couldn't really explain why but xmas gathering just feels so different this yr.

Christmas Run with Jurong Safra

23 Dec 10

Basketball was cancelled and made a last minute decision to join Jurong Safra for the xmas run in town on the Thursday evening.

Started from a carpark near Fort Canning Park to Fish & Co, the Glasshouse where we met up with Melvin (on his bicycle)

Couldn't remember the exact route we took, but we went all the way to Orchard and Newton, taking loads of photos along the way.

Town was swamped with people, most doing their last minute Xmas shopping I suppose.

Outside Singapore Art Museum.
This looks so creepy and ghostly =p

Pretty decor all around for us to take photos.

One last photo before we said goodbye to Melvin.

Dinner cum supper at Chinatown after our Xmas run. Porridge for everyone =)

Kesmond & Wanqiu's Wedding dinner

5 Dec 10

Been looking forward to wanqiu's wedding dinner for a long time! And tonight is the night!

Went down to Pan Pacific Hotel with ning and weilong.

Pretty and sweet wedding photos of the couples decorating the reception.

with ning and weilong.
Looking slightly tanned here cos just completed my full marathon in the day.
The pretty bride and handsome groom. Her husband, Kesmond is a pilot and we got to see them marched in with all the sword bearers. Cool!

Wanqiu, looking very gorgeous and radiant in her second evening gown of the night.

The flower girl and page boy who were leading the march in. So adorable!

credits to ning for editing this picture.

Us with wanqiu's sister, wanmei. She plays basketball very well!

Weilong yum seh-ing. teachers sure know how to project their voices. We got a few heads turning towards our tables when weilong and ning shouted yum seh.

Heidi was there too. She's one of wanqiu's sisters.

A picture with yiteng, my first 3 mth classmate, who happened to be wanqiu's pri sch fren. I still remb it was yiteng who introduced wan qiu to me cos she is keen to join basketball.

A photo with the newlyweds =)

Before we left, we took another picture with the kesmond and wanqiu.

Ning suggested we did this! lol.. super unglam photo, similar to the photos we took the last time we met up. And the couple sportingly abide.

Wish you and kesmond a happy and blissful marriage, wanqiu!
Happily Ever After!

Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore 2010
5 Dec 2010

The day to test my endurance finally arrived.

Woke up at 2plus am to take the shuttle bus from Jurong West sports complex to Orchard with my brother. Going for my 6th full marathon and bro's 2nd full marathon.
Pretty Christmas lightings were up. Took a pic with my bro and proceeded to the start line without him as he got to wait for his frens.

I was slightly late due to the long queue at the baggage deposit. There were already alot of ppl waiting at the starting line and I had some difficulty squeezing into the front. No choice but to stay in the green pen allocated to me.

Took me abt 2 minutes to cross the starting line when the horn sounded. Not too far away, so managed to run ahead after a while. Weather was humid and I was sweating after a few minutes.

Passed the 3km mark and I saw my favourite couple from FN, Quentin and Astrid! Dear Astrid shouted," What are you doing here jieshi? You shld be in front!" That really got me to run ahead.

Continue my pace at abt 5.30min/km. Saw Attapon from Safra and he told me to try to catch up with the 4hr pacers. I was still feeling strong, so I pressed on, speeding up a little.

Soon, I reached East Coast Park, still feeling fresh. The first 10km had taken me 55mins. The sky slowly changed colours and when the first streaks of orange appeared, I approached the 18km mark and I took my first gel. It gave me more energy to push forward. Saw the 3.45 hr pacers at the other side of the road, running way ahead. Not long later ping from safra appeared too.. followed by the 4hr pacers.

I wanted to catch up with them, but I told myself to control my pace, otherwise I will suffer later. Finally reached the u-turn point, did a time check, 1hr 55mins. Seems like I'm still on my target. I'm still feeling strong but did not dare to push myself anymore as I was worried that fatigue would set in. Took my 2nd gel at the 25km mark.

It seemed like eternity when I finally caught up with the 4 hr pacers.. but not long after, they overtook me again. This time I could really feel myself slowing down. No longer can I dream of catching up with them. I was so so tired..

The pacers with yellow balloons were moving further and further away from me as we ran out of East Coast Park. Soon, I lost sight of them.

By then, it was abt 8am and the sun was out, strong and beating relentlessly on my back. I could feel the sweat on my arms..quickly evaporating to become tiny salt crystals. I finally conquered 30km. I reminded myself that I shld not increase my pace, not when I have yet to hit at least 32km mark. And it seems impossible to increase my pace anyway, when I'm feeling exhausted.

So I continue running, wanting to push, yet afraid and too tired to. I was also feeling kind of full from all the gels, 100plus and water I took.

Soon, I reached the 32km mark and I was left with 1 hr to complete the last 10km. Can I really do it? I kept questioning myself.
Quentin ran past me at the marina barrage. He was fast! And still looking strong and fresh. I tried to keep up with him but to no avail. So I lost sight of him as well.
Kept running and I was hoping to see the 36km sign soon cos I know safra jurong had a support station there. And I was so happy when I saw Eng Wah, Sin Ming and his family!
They were giving out sng paos (ice pack) to safra runners!
Grabbed an orange-flavoured sng pao from them, say Hi and off I ran again, feeling much motivated. The icy cold sng pao was a life saviour! It cooled me down when the sun was still burning like a fireball. I could see many runners looking in envy at me, wondering where on earth did I get the sng pao.

Ran and ran and I was so excited when I finally saw esplanade in a distance.
But gosh, it was a nightmare! There were runners everywhere! 42km, 21km and even 10km runners all came together at one point. I was having difficulty running as I have to spend great effort overtaking and weaving in and out of the crowd.
It was then I happened to see Donald (from my gym). I shouted, "Go, Donald! Last 2km only!" and ran on. But he's amazing, he caught up with me and pushed me to run faster! He wanted me to complete under 4 hrs! With just 10mins to 4hrs, I really doubt I can do that already. Still, he was motivating and running hard, so I followed his pace.
We reached the last steep slopes where everyone slow down and walked. It was draining to weave in and out of the crowd so as to overtake them. By the time I conquered the slopes, I knew it was impossible to do a sub 4.
A very tired me.

Donald was very inspiring. He just kept going and I could not help but chase after him to keep up with his pace. I was telling myself, even if I could not do a sub 4, I'm not going to be too far away from it.

Crossed the finishing line in net time of 4:03:14.
My new personal best for full marathon =)

A photo with Joyce (from Safra). She's fast! She completed the race in about 3hrs 56mins!

After collecting our bags..

Meet up with Huiwen who did 21km at the baggage deposit. We bumped into libing, who also did 21km on our way back to the race venue. It was a super long walk back!

huiwen, me and jiahui =)

Runners from Jurong Safra!

A group photo with other runners from safra mt faber. All did well!
All in all it was a good race. But it would definitely made the run a lot smoother if the weather was cooler and no bottleneck at the merging point.
My target for next year: Sub 4hrs for full marathon.
Can I really achieve that?

Kuala Lumpur Trip with Angel & Eelyn
(1st Dec - 4th Dec)

My first trip to KL and first overseas trip with the girls too!
1 Dec 10 (1st night)
We took a 45min flight to KL. From the airport, we took the KL express (train) to KL central where we shared a cab to our hotel.

It was dark when we finally arrived at our hotel. The hotel room did not disappoint us. There was a tv which can be use as a PC as well.. Imagine surfing fb on tv, which was what we did =p

Put our luggage down and we ventured out on the streets to get some food.
Zi char (not very nice) , followed by A&W waffles and onion rings.

2 Dec 10 (2nd Day)

top left: A picture in our room before we start our day with a hearty breakfast
bottom right: The exterior of the boutique hotel

Then it was shopping, shopping and more shopping.

Finally, we stopped for lunch and had ice-cream as dessert.
Then it was more shopping for us again!

Found a lovely dress to wear for wanqiu's wedding on my first day of shopping!
Best buy of the day!

Soon, it was dinner time and we decided to try bbq and steamboat. A very fulfilling meal indeed.

3 Dec 10 (3rd day)

Itinerary of the day was to visit the twin towers and take pictures.
So after a very sumptuous breakfast, we took the public transport to see the towers.

And here we are, at the twin towers.
We actually spend quite some time here taking photos.

Me with Eelyn =)

Me holding the bridge with one finger. haha.. love this shot! Thanks angel!

Angel and me looking up. Actually we were trying to lean against the towers, but tried many times and could not seem to get the effect we wanted.

After all the photograph taking, we proceed with our itinerary, which was more shopping!
Went to a few toys shops to help kel look for his toys. haha.. a task which he had given us since he can't join us for this trip.

As Christmas is just round the corner, there were loads of Christmas decorations in the shopping mall. The decorations are all very grand and pretty! Check out the big and long-legged bears above!

Guess where is this place?
It's the inside of a female washroom! Even have comfy sofa for us to rest our legs. Doesn't look like a toilet at all!

And Angel says this is a must-have every time she visits KL. Super yummy delicious chocolate brownie.

Our lunch =)

After lunch, we continue to shop again.
Night fell and we realised we had not do pedicures.
So spend some time hunting around for nail parlours.

And here we are, enjoying our pedicure. The only parlour that is able to do 3 ppl at the same time. Though they did all the steps, I feel that the pedicure session was quite short though. Not worth the money we spent.

And we went grocery shopping at a supermarket. Eelyn bought so many packets of instant noodles back!

4 Dec 10 (Last day)

Last minute shopping at a nearby shopping mall. haha.. would like to shop some more but I got a flight to catch.

One last photo with my travel mates before I hopped into the cab.

As Eelyn was at KL for a few more days and Angel is visiting her uncle in another part of m'sia, I took the KL express to the airport alone.

All in all, a very good trip with the girls. Shopping was fun and I bought quite a lot of stuff! So much that I'm almost cash-less or rather ringgit-less on the last day. Note to self: Bring more money next time! haha..
