Tuesday Spotlight

This Tuesday I'm so happy to present you with a very talented
She made us this gorgeous card and just look at her stunning coloring ♥

And of course Lilian has also answered our Q&A

*Start by telling us a little about you:
Hello! I am Lilian, thirty-something and I live in Manila, Philippines.
I work full time and craft mostly during the night after I get home from work.

*When did you start card making and what made you start?
5-6 years ago while surfing the internet, I was wowed by some SU! cards online. I then looked for a SU! demo and started buying their products.
I was pretty happy with that until, I saw Tilda cards. I was very excited at the thought of coloring images and they can be made into cards too.
I think I bought my first Tildas from Funky Kits.
At the time, I didn't know that International customers can only order Sugar Nellie stamps but I was lucky to have my order go through.
I ordered a mix of Magnolia and Sugar Nellie stamps...and that's how my addiction to coloring images begun...

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
My current favorite is coloring with Copic markers.

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
My first fave would be Hippie Chic.

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
The Sugar Nellie blog of course :)

*What is your favourite style (card making)?
Hm.. I am not sure I have a style.. :( I just go with what I like - maybe CAS?
I love to make cards that have little or no flowers because I find it easier to mail them. The less bulky the better.
I do love the look of flowers on other people's cards and am very tempted to buy flowers again :)

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
You have tutorials, spotlights and the regular card postings. I think it's great the way it is.. :)

Thank you for having me as a spotlight guest!

And I also found some more gorgeousness over at Lilian's blog ♥

Hippie Chick

Hello Sassy fans!

I don't know about you - but here in Germany summer has been quite horrible so far with lots of rain and cold temperatures. So I went to get the summer on my craft table - and which image could be better for it than

Hippie Chick?

With all those flowers in her hair I guess she's sitting in the middle of a blooming meadow.

I went with a blue, green and white color combo and used these markers for the coloring:

Papers were all left overs from my stash, sentiment by Stampin'Up and the grass is a Martha Stewart punch.

Simple Chalked Cloud Tutorial

Good Morning!
Paula here with my second Sassy post!!
Before I start I'd like to say a HUGE thank you for all the lovely comments that were left on my first post... its so lovely to get feedback!

I decided I'd share a little tutorial on how I create chalked clouds...
Now I know there are better ones out there, BUT this is so easy !!
(Even my husband followed it, just from the pictures!)

Firstly, I punch 2 different sized flowers from scrap card...
(really, you can use any flower punch, as long as the petals are rounded, or even a scalloped edge nestie could do the trick) these are 1" and 2" 6 petal flowers

Next , I cut each flower in half...

this step is a little tricky to see in the photo, but basically, I assemble all the cut pieces so that the 'petal' edge resembles a cloud shape that I'm happy with ...
(secure with tape)

Take whatever shape you want to use as your chalked background...
Starting at the bottom right, hold the template securely at whatever angle you like, and chalk in circular motions across the top edge.
(excuse my not showing you the chalking bit... I do this bit with my finger *blush* and I'm sure that's not going to look pretty!)

Remove the template, and reposition at the bottom left, and chalk again! not the full length this time, stop when you touch the chalk line from the first bit...

Then position the template in the middle above the two sides you've just chalked..
make sure the existing chalk lines are visible... so that you chalk up to them, and not above them.

repeat the steps until you reach the top (right, left then middle)
And thats it!!

at this point I draw around the edge with a fineliner, but thats optional ;)

Tips!
Keep the template... then you don't need to make another!
blow away excess chalk after each section, otherwise it smudges!

Well, that was my first ever tutorial, I hope it was okay?

I used this chalked panel on my Spotlight card from Tuesday (this post HERE)

But I've used the same method for todays card... just the shape is different...

I've used Hippie Chick, and you can grab her HERE at funky kits...
(more info on the card at my blog)

And this card is completely unrelated to the tutorial, but I wanted to show it anyway because I followed the FAB sketch over at the Sugar Bowl
This is Skater Girl.... GRAB her HERE...

Thanks for visiting us today!

Tuesday Spotlight

This Tuesday your getting to know
our new Guest designer a little better
Look at this gorgeous card she made for the spotlight..
Here she have used Butterfly Girl
(and there is a rumor that there will be a tutorial connected to this card later this week so watch out!!)

*Start by telling us a little about you:
Hi, I’m Paula.

I’m 33 years old, and I live in Derbyshire UK, with my very understanding, but slightly bewildered Hubby (he just doesn’t get the excitement of papers, stamps and colouring! I swear he thinks there’s something wrong with me!) I have a 12 year old Son, who never fails to make me laugh!

*When did you start card making and what made you start?
I’ve been card making for about 4 ½ years now, and still loving every minute! I started when I visited my Sister in Law, shortly after she’d been to a card making workshop..she showed me a couple of the cards she’d made... I knew instantly I’d LOVE it! Even though back then it was all peel offs and decoupage.

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
I have to say Promarkers at the moment, as that’s really all I have! I do occasionally add some extra shading with some bog standard pencils...

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
Ooooh... you can’t ask me that!! Okay, my absolute favourite to colour has got to be Hippie chick BUT... Amelia appeals to the dreamer in me, and I think she’s such an original stamp!!

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
I first saw them on the lovely Maria’s blog actually!! And to be completely honest... at first I wasn’t sure if I liked them... I actually only bought my first one a couple of months ago... now I’m obsessed!!!

*What is your favourite style (card making)?
To look at... vintage, shabby, arty... I am so in awe of people who can create this style... I’ve tried, and I can’t pull it off! To make... I don’t think I have a style, my style is ‘choose some nice bits and pieces, and see what happens’... is that a style?

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
Honestly, I know its a cop out, and EVERYONE says the same, but I really do think its perfect the way it is!

Take a look at all the pretty Sassy cards I found in Paula's blog..
Using Little Light of mine

And this one using Vintage Boutique  That I just got in my mail box
and obviously you see it's gorgeous but I swear it's prettier in real life♥

Thank you Paula for sharing and we're really happy to have you on our team!!

Tuesday spotlight..

This Tuesday we have a sweet girl with an amazing talent for coloring with us.
meet

I asked her to make something for the Spotlight
and by that I'm thinking of one card or something..
So Bridget has really  spoiled us this time
Look at her gorgeous Sassy projects!!

Butterflies and Pigtails ,5th Avenue

*Start by telling us a little about you:
Hello, My name is Bridget, and I live in the wonderfully picturesque county of Cornwall, with my Patient Husband, our Malamute Buzz, and our two cats Nala and Jasmine, I have lived here all my life and I can't see myself living anywhere else, apart from maybe Scotland, the land of The House of Sugar.

*When did you start card making and what made you start?
I have always had an interest in art, but I have never been able to draw well enough to share with other people, so when I came across the craft channels on TV, and I saw the beautiful things you can make, it inspired me to have a go at making cards, at first, using Rubber Stamps, and then onto the many other forms of crafting, I then progressed onto blogging, about 18 months ago, and my eye's were opened even wider, by the stunning creations that I came across.

*What is your preferred coloring medium?
Everything....... lol, well, it depends on my mood, but I do go through phases, I might use Polychromes for a while, or Promarkers, but my favourite of favourites at the moment are copics, in particular sketch markers, I just love the range of colours you get, and the professional finish they give you, it makes you feel like you've accomplished something when you have finished your project,
I have just gotten hold of a set of Prismacolour pencils, I haven't done much with them yet, its a work in progress, but I do love the finish they give you when using them on Kraft card, so more to follow on that, lol...

*What is your fav Simply Sassy stamp?
Well how can I answer this question, I love them all, and I have all apart from 3 of them, but having thought long and hard about it,
I am going to have to say Amelia and all of the new Christmas stamps, lol, this is the most difficult question of all, lol.

*How did you notice the Simply Sassy stamps the first time?
I first noticed the Simply Sassy Stamps, when Karen introduced us to Krista's artwork on the Sugar Nellie blog and I have been hooked ever since.

*What is your favourite style (card making)?

I don't think I've really got a favourite style, I do like clean and simple, but I also like to see lots of embellishments, so I don't really think I have a specific style, I like to change things a lot so not to get bored, I like shabby chic, though I can never seem to produce a very good end product.

*And what would you love to see more of at the Simply Sassy blog?
This is another hard question to answer, because it's difficult to improve on perfection, because I think you girls already do a fantastic job, what with all the fun blog hops, brilliant tutorials and wonderfully inspirational cards, so I had a really good think about what I would like to see added and that would be a Simply Sassy Challenge blog.

Here are some other gorgeous Sassy projects I found at Bridget's blog

Wonder who our new guest designer(s) are??

First I want to thank every one of you that applied for the position as guest designer for set 7 and 8 of Simply Sassy. You really helped making my job very hard! I hoped to announce the guest designer right after the call was over but with so many I needed help from my Sassy girls.
So they have sent me their votes by mail so they wouldn't be affected by each other's decision..
Still the top were a tie, so late night yesterday I remember Karen asking me if I wouldn't have two girls instead getting each their half set, and mailed the 2 girls at the top if they would share a spot..
And I got a YES from both :)
So here are the new girls that will work hard to give you some Sassy inspiration
