It is a truth universally acknowledged that Pride and Prejudice is a very romantic novel. Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy are literature’s greatest lovers and remain the standard by which all couples in a love story are compared. When Jane Austen created the spirited Elizabeth and the brooding Mr. Darcy she probably had no idea that she was setting in motion two hundred years of fascination. Very few pieces of writing have entered our cultural consciousness and have remained as fresh and captivating as this tale.
