The sequel to the hit Focus Features film  Downton Abbey   with most of the original cast returning including   Penelope Wilton  as   Isobel Crawley  (aka  Lady Merton ) was originally supposed to be released at the end of this year with a Christmas 2021 release date, but it has been delayed for a few months with a new theatrical release date of March 18, 2022 and   a new title, " Downton Abbey: A new Era . "  The main original cast including Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton, Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, and more have returned for the second film. New additions include Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye, and Dominic West.

Wow, this is great! I love watching these four lovely legendary Dames in their many individual and shared movies! They are the most celebrated, talented, and award winning actresses on TV and Films. Dame Judi Dench , Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Eileen Atkins, and Dame Joan Plowright and they're all together having a fun tea time in a new documentary titled Tea with the Dames (aka Nothing Like a Dame - original title), with its trailer being released by IFC Films. They are just missing Dames Penelope Wilton and Helen Mirren. Directed by Roger Mitchell (Notting Hill, My Cousin Rachel). Opening in U.S. Theaters September 21 & ON DEMAND September 27! Wohoo, great news!!! It's official, a Downton Abbey movie is happening!!! It's been confirmed today by Downton Abbey's official Twitter page the official announcement. Film production is said to start this summer with the original principal cast returning. It's been three years (on ITV in the UK and over a two years ago on PBS Masterpiece here in the USA) since the very last episode aired on TV of Downton Abbey 's ( Penelope Wilton   co-starred as   Isobel Crawley ) sixth and final season. Now, a film version is finally happening hopefully, we'll see Dame Penelope Wilton as one of its original cast returning (hoping along with Dan Stevens' Matthew Crawley and Jessica Brown-Findley's Lady Sybil Crawley...I know their characters' gone in the series, but I'd love to see them alive in the film).
