Swedish Corps of the Allied Army of the North in 1813

Time for a parade.

My complete Napoleonic Swedish collection,
safely in its metal storage/transport tray.

There it all is!

And that is how it is listed for Napoleon's Battles.
The Swedish Corps of the Allied Army of the North in 1813 based on the OOB for the Leipzig scenario.

My next project is to complete the remaining units for the Army of the North.  I have the Prussians, so the Russians will be the focus, which is excellent as I have a sizeable mountain of Russian lead to sort out, except I think it is more infantry than cavalry. Doh!

Lifgrenadierregementets

The last unit needed for the Swedish Corps of the Allied Army of the North in 1813 based on the Napoleon's Battles OOB in the Leipzig scenario. There will be more on that in another post.

You're not seeing double, well you are,
I did two units of 16.
I only needed 28 but painted 32.

They look good en masse,
even with the poor light.
(Normally I photograph outside, but it is too hot).

The lighting even seems somewhat atmospheric,
I'll call it ambient dream light.

Swedish uniforms are notoriously difficult to pin down.
I went with how Old Glory had depicted the figures.

Why did I go with 32?  There are figures left over.  I could have done more, but the issue I had is Old Glory bayonets are rather fragile.  The figures I did end up painting have had their bayonets reinforced with a few coats of PVA glue.

There is one extra unit I needed, a British RHA rocket troop and it just so happened I had some appropriate second-hand figures.  I brightened them up a bit and based them.

LIFREGEMENTETBRIGADENS KYRASSIERCORPS

I normally wouldn't have put the title all in capitals, but it has been a major accomplishment finishing this unit. These figures have a lot going on with their kit so there was a lot of detailed brush work to manage which is tricky in hot weather (paint dries on the brush before it reaches the figure). The heat was increased as we cut down the tree that shaded my studio (it needed removing. but still).  The "my" studio became "our" studio and my partner, on her six weeks long service leave, decided it needed cleaning out and painting (she has plans to turn it into a granny flat). So, my nicely ordered chaos was thrown topsy turvy.  Very stressful, but sadly necessary. One advantage is I discovered that I had more stuff than I thought I had.  The disadvantage is that I have more stuff than I thought I had.

Now all that remains is the Swedish Guard infantry for their Corps of the 1813 Army of the North. Now where are they? Where are my paints?  Where are my brushes? And where is a cool place to paint?

Swedish Regt Elfsborg

The last "batch" of Swedish line is complete.  While there are 12 figures and I've painted them up as a regiment, they will combine with other figures to make a larger unit, 28 figures and form a brigade as part of the Swedish Corps of the Army of the North in 1813.  The reason for 12 figures was the way the Old Glory packet furnish command stands.  Perhaps not pure Napoleon's Battles, but in my games the command stand is not important as it is the stand with the label that defines the unit and I have ideas about that as well.

Old Glory packs often had extra figures and I decided that no man would be left unpainted/put to use.

A casualty figure.

This figure was broken off at the base and has now been super glued to a new base
to make another casualty marker.

Now I have only the guard and cuirassiers to complete.

Swedish Regt Vermlands

Another batch of figures completed for the Swedish Corps in the 1813 Army of the North..

All lined up

Or as I prefer to think of it,
deployed for action.

I should probably crinkle the flag up a bit
so it is flapping in the wind

In column or on manoeuvres.

Swedish Regt Kalmar

The uniform details are from The Army of the Kingdom of Sweden 1802-1814 by W. J. Rawkins and the regiment names I take from the flags that are also included in that book.  The flags I scan and print to complete the miniatures.

My normal camera is taking pictures, but not letting me upload them.  So these images have been taken using my phone which has a much better camera and I really should get with the modern world and use it as such.  The camera I have been using was good in its day, but was not top end or anything, just jolly convenient (mostly).

Oh no!
The officer is missing a button.

I am sure that guy in the back rank is asking the drummer if he can play some Abba.

I love how the photos bring out the detail,
but hate how they show the mistakes!

Swedish Regt Vasterbottens

I am getting close to the home straight with the Swedish Corps of the 1813 Army of the North.  Current activity is painting 50 infantry which I am doing in four batch.  The Vasterbottens are the first batch.  After the infantry there is the Guard to complete.

The uniform is fairly generic, but the flag is identified as belonging to this regiment in 1802.  I could be mean and say it looks like something the Colonel's mother knitted him for Christmas.

The other thing to spot is the repaired bayonets on two figures. The flag pole was also replaced as the original was very bendy.

Swedish Command Stands for Napoleon's Battles

I think I started work on these early 2021.  They represent the command stands needed for the Swedish Corps in the Army of the North commanded by Bernadotte at Leipzig.

Finished - they will not be varnished!

Bernadotte with Prussian and Russian advisors/minders.
I like the Prussian figure who is busy using his language guide
so he can tell Bernadotte to get on with it.

Russian pointing to the enemy while Bernadotte looks the other way.

Divisional generals.
I ended up using British command figures as I had plenty of them
and my limited research indicated rather ordinary campaign wear.

You can tell they are Swedish by the colour of the plumes on their hats,
but just in case every base has some yellow flowers,
which I hope will avoid confusion.

Corps commander receiving a message

I am not sure he wants it.

Swedish Dragoons

A bit of a challenge to get the uniform details right and while they are supposed to be for the 1813 campaign, I think the figures are more representative of early times, possibly even mixing items from 1802, 1807 and 1811.  Still, I am happy how they have turned out.

The Vestgota dragonregementes

The Nyland dragonregementes

Something weird happened to the printed flag when I lightly varnished the figures.  It shows up worse in the photo than it does to the naked eye so I'll just live with it.  I've been printing flags and using the same varnish for a good while now and never noticed such an effect occurring before.  Odd.

I love the trooper's look of outrage as the officer waves his sword around.

The one pack of Old Glory Swedish cavalry provides both uniforms and so it is a bit of a challenge if you want consistency.  Thankfully that does't matter for me as the unit represents a brigade.

There is also an outraged trooper unhappy with a trumpet being blown in his ear.

Swedish Mörner Hussar Regiment

Or to give them their more Swedish name: Mörnerska husarregementet.

I had a few challenges with these guys, starting with the matt black undercoat going gloss and ending with trying to figure out just what they were wearing on their heads.

The unit did not carry standards and as I had two standard bearers and no desire to convert them I took some licence with a national flag and also a cavalry standard from another regiment which had an image of a reindeer emblazoned on it.

The flash has lightened the blue somewhat frightfully.
It is a much richer blue from the Citadel Space Marine range that I happened to have.
I also had mixed success with my attempt to try and produce a variety of horse colours.

I kept this blurry shot (it's what happens to your eyes after painting hussars)
as it shows the reindeer on the flag.
