CR-11 PILGRIMS/MONKS - Part Two

As forecast, here is the rest of the packet, painted up and based after being padded out with a few peasants (mainly Old Glory, but with one Tin Soldier). Very easy and enjoyable to do. No expectations of seeing them on the tabletop, but you never know.

CR-11 PILGRIMS/MONKS - Part One

Had these for a while, but with pilgrimage being a bit of a theme along with the Crusades I thought it was time to get them painted.

The Old Glory packs consist of a number of figures that don't fit nicely into units.  This was the case with the Byzantine cavalry where I avoided having four left over and went for two bases for Basic Impetus.  With these figures I went for one base with eight left over. I have started on them supplemented by some other figures, but that is for Part Two.

BZ12 10TH C. BYZANTINE TAGMATIC KATAPHRAKTOI

These arrived at Xmas time and are now ready for the table.  Pity about the bendy spears, and the archers firing to the side, but none were broken and so I couldn't really justify replacing them.

New French Infantry Unit

I have had these Old Glory figures since the 1990s and was put off doing anything with them as they were a bit rough.  I have overcome that reluctance and created a unit with an integral casualty/command base.

A good black undercoat performs well to cover up any casting flaws.

I have also been using washes which is something I previously didn't really incorporate as part of my Napoleonic painting style.

This is the classic 16 figure (or as I prefer to think of it: 4 bases)
Napoleon's Battles infantry brigade
(even though it looks like a battalion)

In this formation the casualty maker is well hidden but possibly not so practical...

In march column

And line it is much more accessible.

A fancy square just for completeness and to show off those lovely colourful pompoms.
If look at the light blue pompom base you can see that half the face is obscured.
I thought I could paint it as a scarf but decided to just ignore it.

However, I am now thinking that the casualty base would be best as just a standard infantry base so it can always be in the rear of the unit and therefore readily accessible.

BZ13 10-11TH C. BYZANTINE THEMATIC KATAPHRAKTOS

For last Xmas my daughter gave me a gift voucher for Tactics and I found some bargains.

Better still I got my act together and painted and based them.  The 20 figures providing a medium and a light cavalry unit for my Basic Impetus Byzantine armies.

The figures are a tad too large to fit 12 to a base (and that equates to four 3 figure standard WRG format bases).

Worse are the bendy spears.  None were actually broken so I didn't need to replace any (as if this had been the case I probably would have done them all). They seem to have straightened out okay, mostly.

Brunswick Corps for Waterloo Campaign

I previously posted the light cavalry, but now I have completed every Brunswick figure I salvaged from a pile of metal destined for the smelter. Not sure if they are from a single or multiple Old Glory pack, but there seemed to be just enough to make up what was needed for Quatre Bras (and subsequently the diminished corps for Waterloo).

Line infantry

Standard bearer converted from artillery man.

Leib-Battalion (not far off as a base is roughly battalion size in Napoleon's Battles)

Same, but Minifigs.  Pity about the focus.

Light infantry

Avantgarde Battalion

Foot and horse artillery
The foot artillery is surplus to requirements.
There is also some debate about whether the Brunswick cannons were early Austrian or later French.
I went with British as I am short British guns.

Casualty markers or command bases, still being perfected.

The cavalry in a brighter photo.

Altogether, although missing something.

What about me!

And just for fun, here is the same formation in 6mm

Brunswick Light Cavalry

Some rescued figures now painted which fill a hole in my 15mm collection.

And just for comparison, here is the same formation in 6mm

Swedish Corps of the Allied Army of the North in 1813

Time for a parade.

My complete Napoleonic Swedish collection,
safely in its metal storage/transport tray.

There it all is!

And that is how it is listed for Napoleon's Battles.
The Swedish Corps of the Allied Army of the North in 1813 based on the OOB for the Leipzig scenario.

My next project is to complete the remaining units for the Army of the North.  I have the Prussians, so the Russians will be the focus, which is excellent as I have a sizeable mountain of Russian lead to sort out, except I think it is more infantry than cavalry. Doh!

Lifgrenadierregementets

The last unit needed for the Swedish Corps of the Allied Army of the North in 1813 based on the Napoleon's Battles OOB in the Leipzig scenario. There will be more on that in another post.

You're not seeing double, well you are,
I did two units of 16.
I only needed 28 but painted 32.

They look good en masse,
even with the poor light.
(Normally I photograph outside, but it is too hot).

The lighting even seems somewhat atmospheric,
I'll call it ambient dream light.

Swedish uniforms are notoriously difficult to pin down.
I went with how Old Glory had depicted the figures.

Why did I go with 32?  There are figures left over.  I could have done more, but the issue I had is Old Glory bayonets are rather fragile.  The figures I did end up painting have had their bayonets reinforced with a few coats of PVA glue.

There is one extra unit I needed, a British RHA rocket troop and it just so happened I had some appropriate second-hand figures.  I brightened them up a bit and based them.
