Giveacar - Help Christian charities and the environment with one action!
In this global recession, one would expect that people would cut back and spend
less. This has been true, when referring to the money that people spend on
themselves. However, conversely the amount of charitable giving has also risen
worldwide, with a £400 million increase in the amount of charitable giving in the
UK in 2010. At the same time, the US has remained at number five in the World
Giving index compiled by the CAF. This shows that despite the recession, being
compassionate and helping others has still remained a high priority in a lot of
people’s minds.
Yet when people think of possessions of theirs that they can give, minds rarely fall
to donating a vehicle. Yet, through Giveacar, you can not only dispose of a car in a
free, convenient, and ethical manner, but you can also donate any of the resulting
proceeds to a charity of your choice.
Giveacar is modelled on similar US companies such as Charitycar.us. Set up in
January 2010 by recent graduate Tom Chance, Giveacar facilitates the collection
of unwanted vehicles by a subcontracted collection agency. Giveacar only
use Authorised Treatment Facilities, which make sure to issue a Certificate of
Destruction and safety depollute the car, disposing of the materials such as oil and
brake fluid safely so they do not damage the environment.
Depending on the age and the condition of the vehicle, it will either be sent to
scrap or sent to a salvage auction. Any resulting proceeds will, minus a small
administration fee, be sent to the charity of the owner’s choice. Giveacar has raised
over $400,000 since January 2010, including substantial amounts for Christian
charities such as Youth for Christ, Retrak and Toybox.
Therefore, by recycling your car through Giveacar you are not only freeing up some
space in your garage; you are also helping to take heavy polluters off the road as
well as donating money to a good cause of your choice!
