Get Well Soon

I made this 'get well card' for a friend's mum who's just had a hip replacement. Apparently she had it with just an epidural and sedation. Lord, I'd need to be knocked out for 24 hours if they were going to take part of my hip away. I can't even imagine being semi-conscious.  Thankfully it's done now and she's on the mend.  It was lovely to see her and have a chat over a coffee and scone.

Because this card was hand-delivered I could make it extra dimentional, so I used some of my largest flowers to decorate it.

Water-coloured on Langton Watercolour paper with Ranger Distress Ink Reinkers:

  • Hair/Cuddled cat: Antique Linen, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo, Gathered Twigs
  • Skin: Tattered Rose, Tea Dye, Worn Lipstick
  • Sitting Cat: Antique Linen, Frayed Burlap, Walnut Stain
  • Sky: Tumbled Glass
  • Dress: Prize Ribbon, Tumbled Glass
  • Reds: Candied Apple, Fired Brick, Aged Mahogany
  • 'Whites': Weathered Wood

A nice cuppa will make you feel better

At As You Like It Challenge today we're asking what kind of stitching you like to add to your cards, faux or real, doodled or embossed.  I really love stitching as a detail and I used to use my sewing machine to stitch around the edges of my images, but that was before the beautiful stitched nesting dies were common. Nowadays my sewing machine has been tucked out of sight and I use stitched dies a lot.  However, there's always room for more stitching and for today's creation I've also doodled some stitching around the edge of my cardbase. This wouldn't be possible with a die becuase it's a bespoke shape, and stitching with thread would need a lot of patience because of all those curves, but doodle stitches were easy to add all the way around and give it a more finished look.  The cardbase was a teapot shape that I elongated to make it much taller and then cut using my Silhouette into a tent-fold card.

  • Fur: Antique Linen, Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo, Gathered Twigs, Tattered Rose, Tea Dye
  • Greens: Bundled Sage, Peeled Paint, Forest Moss
  • Purples: Milled Lavender, Dusty Concord
  • Background: Antique Linen

Feel Better Soon

We want to see your Pink + 1 creations at As You Like It Challenge this fortnight, and my favourite is pink and cream (yes I know I've technically added some green, but I figured that a wee bit of grass is permitted!).  I think that the strawberry and cream colours are so pretty together.

I've added lots of embellishments, and die-cut the edge of the card too just to give it a further bit of detail.  The papers are also some of my favourites from Maja Design in the matching colour combo.  The sentiment is typed and die cut.  It's come out a bit shiny on the photo, but that's just how the light from my lamp fell.

  • Pinks: Picked Raspberry, Scattered Straw

Back on your paws

Although I've been in clean and simple mode a lot lately, I do still love creating some girlie cards with all the trimmings.  I also love pretty ribbons (I have all the colours in all the sizes!) and particularly love tying them into double bows alongside a little array of flowers.  I've used an organza ribbon here which makes a very tight knot with not too much bulk to the bow. This card was for my mother-in-law who fell over recently and broke her hip. She's on the mend now thankfully and hopefully this little meecie helped cheer her up.  Head over to the As You Like It Challenge to join in with our ribbons or buttons challenge.  I'm not a huge fan of adding buttons to a card (unless they're novelty ones). I think that stems from my sewing days and it still feels odd to put buttons on a card!

A little purrscription

I made this card for a special someone who's sadly been going through the mill lately with a very nasty and persistent bug.  She actually gave me the image for my birthday so I thought it was ideal to use for her 'get well soon' card.  I tried to colour it in similar colours to her own feline princess, but think I may have gone too grey rather than brown for my tabby.  Either way, she's taking with her a little purrscription, which is the phrase I used on the inside!

And the text inside says...

I'm Here For You

Today's card features 'I'm Here For You' from the new release at Lili of the Valley.  I've been rediscovering my old Lili paper pads too and this was one of my favourites, called Promises.  It's available from Nitwits as a digi though.

Poorly Bunny

Today's card is a CAS 'get well' card for one of my most loveliest friends who's been feeling unwell. It features my favourite bunny from Lili of the Valley.  I've typed the sentiment using 'handwriting font' and added an orange satin ribbon as an accent to draw out the orange in the image.  This is one of my favourite 'get well soon' images but I felt the sentiment could have been a bit bolder.

Poorly Bunny

I've made this card at the weekend for a pal who's been feeling seriously under the weather and I'm hoping that this bunnykins will cheer her up, if only a smidgeon.  I struggled a bit with the shading on the grapes or some reason, but otherwise he was fun to paint.  I'm not entirely sure I've used him before today but he's perfect for a poorly bunny.

Feeling poorly? Have a nice cup of tea ...

There is a new release and freebie today at StampFairy called Donny Doc, great for any 'get well' theme.  I've made a cute little tea bag gift box decorated with one of the cute new digis and the freebie sentiment. This box was so simple to make once I'd cut out the template. I even simplified the acetate window by using a nestie to cut it out. The template is here, go and have a try for yourself.

    Get Well Soon Lenny

It is Friday so there is a new release and freebie today at Stamp Fairy.  Today's set is  Lenny Get Well Soon.

Here is a card I've made using one of the digis from the newly released set.  I think it has quite a masculine theme as it is quite simple with not too much fuss on it.

    Straight to the point

There is a new challenge today at Top Tip Tuesday, and the theme to play along with this week is "straight lines".

We're sponsored by Robyn's Fetish who have kindly supplied some digi images for the design team to showcase.  I'm using Five Little Froggies. And I've made a sentiment to match which says "Wishing you will get well soon", but I've put the two words "Wishing" and "Well" in different fonts so they stand out, ie "wishing well" which is what the image is.   Geddit??? !!!  Oh dear.  I'll get my coat!

    Get Well Heffalump

This week on 2 Sisters the theme is Get Well / Thinking of you, and we're sponsored by Stitchy Bear Stamps.  I've used this poorly elephant in his bed and used a purple colour theme throughout.  I've used Promarkers to colour the image, and my new beaded oval nestie, adding lace, ribbons, flowers and a brad.  The sentiment is one of my own and was issued as a freebie a few days ago.

Please pop on over to the 2 Sisters challenge blog to enter our Get well / Thinking of you challenge and also to see the gorgeous creations made by the rest of the design team. Hope to see you there.

Get Well Soon and yet another Freebie

I wanted to use these fab new "naturals" papers that I got from Summertime Designs and although they're actually called Falling for Fall, (slightly out of season!!!), I thought they were absolutely lovely and the natural theme really appealed to me.  However, when I decided to make a 'get well' card to promote today's freebie sentiment, I did wonder if the not-so-bright colour scheme was altogether suitable for a get well card, which I tend to prefer to be a bit more upbeat.  Anyway, I tried to brighten it up by using cream flowers, some sparkly dotty gold ribbon and some flat back pearls and liquid pearls. The image is Stamp Fairy and I've cut out the cute little bear and mounted him on an swirly embossed circle of cream card brushed with gold shimmer chalks, and layered onto a brown circle lacey nestie.

If you would like a copy of the digi sentiment, please help yourself below.

    My conditions are:
    • Please become a follower then you'll see new freebie digis that I post,
    • Please don't distribute the digis directly, instead I'd be delighted if you direct others to my blog to collect them themselves by creating a link if you use it, and
    • Please leave me a comment to let me know you've downloaded it, and so I know it is worthwhile creating these to share with you.
Click on the image to see it full size, then select Save Picture.  I'd also love to see the creations you make using my digi, so please feel free to email me a link to your blogpost so I can pop along and take a look.

    Poorly Teddy

I've had a go at decoupage on my stamped image today, which I don't usually do, but I saw some beautiful cards using this technique and I thought I'd give it a go!  I've used a Lili of the Valley image, and a orange theme (to make a change from my usual pinks and lilacs!).  I've used a circle theme backing paper, with a bit of distressing around the edges and some rusty orange coloured card to matt everything to bring it all together.  I've used my new oval cutter to cut around the image, but there are only 6 sizes that it can cut, and I don't like the large gaps between the sizes (it creates too much of a border) so I end up hand cutting the larger size with scalloped scissors using the smaller as a guide.  I'm quite pleased with my steady hand overall considering I'd had a Bacardi & coke beforehand !

And here is a close up of my efforts at decoupaging the girl and teddy:

    Lili's Lilacs

I had a very enjoyable night last night designing a couple of cards using the Lili of the Valley Thursday Challenge sketch and my new LOTV stamps.  The two cards below are based on variations of the sketch provided, and are both using some lovely lilac papers that I got from my local craft shop.  It's not easy to see from the pics, but they are satin finish papers which give a real sheen to the cards.

The first one is my current favourite stamp (as it reminds me of Pingu !!)  These little guys are so adorable and the image is a beautiful design. I love it, and hope you like it too!

The overall backing paper is a satin finish pale lilac, and the darker strips are purple satin paper decorated with an edging punch.  The snowflake punchies are in silver card which has not shown particularly in the photo, but the little lilac roses finish it off nicely.  This is probably one of my favourite cards (so far!).

The next design (below) is also based on the same sketch but is a get well card, using another really lovely stamp by LOTV.  I used a crimping tool to give the papers some texture and used similar colours as the above design.  Hope you like it.
