Jane Walker's Jazzy Linocuts

Bottles and Pears

Jane Walker is a super-talented printmaker who caught my eye on Twitter.
Her bio line there says, "Still chasing that elusive perfect linocut."
Well, Jane, I believe the chase is over.

Jane's still life linocuts are nothing short of stunning.
Graphic patterns, color choices that are deep and rich,
and hints of mid-century design
combine to give impact and wow-factor.

Note Cards by Sarah Robinson Designs

I first noticed Sarah Robinson's work on Twitter, and began following her.
This girl from the UK has got real artistic talent.
I especially like the charming note cards she creates from her linocut designs.

Vanessa Lubach's Terrific Linocuts

Vanessa Lubach, of the UK, has a particular talent for linocut.
Take note of the overlapping tree branches and the fur of the squirrel.
When the many steps in the process of creating a linocut print are
realized and appreciated, one sees that her detailed artistry is truly outstanding!
Sketching, cutting the linoleum, printing each color.
The results make a lengthy process well worth it!
Well done, Vanessa!

Lovin' Lisa VanMeter's Prints!

Lisa VanMeter, of Indianapolis, Indiana, creates spectacular handmade prints.
She does original work with linocut, woodblock and screen printing.
The processes involved are detailed and time consuming,
but the beautiful results are well worth every minute!
I'm showing off some of my favorites. Enjoy!

The pieces above and below are screenprints: Fall Marigolds and Aspen Forest.

The following two are woodblock prints: Sunflower Blooms and Beachcomber.

These are linocut prints, each with a photo in process.

The Central PA Festival of the Arts at Penn State

Artsfest1

Spent a fantastic day at Penn State, my alma mater, in State College, PA!
We enjoyed every minute browsing the tents of handcrafted wares at
the annual Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts -
affectionately known as Artsfest.

My photo above, taken of a T-shirt bearing an image of the official Festival Poster.
Each year it's designed by Visual Arts Professor Emeritus Lanny Somese.
Read more about the posters here.

I pulled together my photos of my Artsfest favorites,
along with links, when available.

A quote by Émile Zola is fitting here:
"If you ask me what I came to do in this world,
I, an artist, will answer you:
I am here to live out loud."

Enjoy the work of these talented artists
who truly are living out loud!

Each year a banner competition is held.
Current and past banners are displayed in overhead zigzags,
adding a colorful, festive flair to the event.
