The Dream Image Collages of Kanchan Mahon

Kanchan Mahon creates intriguing collages of women with a
dreamy quality that flaunts romance and femininity.
She often adds symbolic natural elements:
butterflies show a longing for change,
birds represent a dream of flight,
and blooms express the flowering of self.
My favorites are those with a soft, neoclassical aura,
like the ones I've selected to share with you here.

The Clever Illustrations of Jessica Roux

There's no denying that Jessica Roux's illustrations draw me in.
It's her subdued color scheme, the moody depth she creates with shading,
and her subject matter, which I find especially interesting.

Her groupings of items into themed collages are my favorites.
Take time to notice her clever choices:
cone flowers, dainty teacups, a morel mushroom, ornate embroidery scissors.

Jessica's subject matter reflects her infatuation with nature.
I feel instantly calmed as I look through the illustrations of this talented artist.
See if you do, too.

Lucy Levenson's Fabulous Fabric Folk Art Collages

I am totally in awe! The art of Lucy Levenson is amazing!
She designs lovely folk art collages using fabric and paper that's sewn and glued,
then she paints details and adds finishing touches with stitches, beads and such.
Textile art with fascinating details and depth!
Just feast your eyes on her marvelous works of art!

Lucy also makes fabrics for items such as aprons, tea towels,
or pillows like this adorable bride~

Angelica Paez Collages

Angelica Paez combs secondhand shops for ephemera treasures:
vintage postcards, magazines, stamps, receipts, photos and such.
She cleverly combines bits and pieces to create
imaginative collages, with equally imaginative titles.
No digital work here, just good old scissors and glue.
Sometimes she adds scraps of fabric or thread for embellishment,
or actual stitches as with the collage above, Flapjack Mountain.

Reimagining the Book: 3D Book Art by Kerry Miller

Kerry Miller, of Great Britain, uses her artistic talents in a unique way.
She re-invents antique books, long ignored and cast off,
giving them new lives and new purposes as true works of art!

Kerry explains, "As technology threatens to replace the printed word,
there has never been a better time to re-imagine the book."

Each book is deconstructed by reverently cutting out the illustrations.
In the case of black and white images, Kerry sometimes
hand-paints them with watercolors or inks.
She re-builds the book by layering the pieces in one of two 3D approaches:
an explosion of images, bursting forth to capture our interest,
or a diorama, reaching within the confines of the book's covers
to offer a peek at the wonders inside.

Here's to appreciating the past,
the rewards of reading,
and the artistry of Kerry Miller!
