Here is my card that I got done today, in leiu of a weekend post:
OMG- This is probably my favorite card that I have ever made and I had no vision of what I was even going to use for a stamp or paper or anything when I started out! Just Jen's Sketch for You to Try for this week and that's it! I bought this stamp the other day when I was in the store picking up some EZ Mount for another stamp and their Magnolia stamps were 30% off, so I figured "what the heck" and bought 2! It wasn't until I stamped her I realized how adorable she really is. The 'rubber' her just didn't do her justice. I stamped her in trusty memento ink onto Taylored Expressions Choice Buttercream. It's such a nice CS...you would love it if you tried it. And it colours nicely too. The colours of copics I used will be listed at the end of the post in the supply list. She is cut out with a spellbinders circle nestie and sponged with SU creamy caramel (discontinued, which is a crime) and chocolate chip ink. I then cut out 2 of the same die(1 dp and 1 choc chip CS) using spellbinders labels three and trimmed the patterned paper one so that the back chocolate CS one would show. Brown baby braddies are on the corners. All of the layers of DP and CS are sponged with chocolate chip ink. I wanted a really vintage look and sponging is pretty much the easiest way to achieve some level of distressing on a project. The DP is my new fave!! I only wish I wouls have bought more now that I see it in action! I also added 2 olive buttons with twine bows to follow the sketch design. That's one of the nice things about sketches- they kind of help you to do things that you normally wouldn't do. I never would have put 2 buttons on a card like this, but now that its done, I think it looks balanced and really finishes it off.
Her little apron is also paper-pieced using some of the same DP. I then stamped the apron a 3rd time on a scrap of buttercream, coloured the pocket to match the dress and glued it on top of the dp piece. The inside of the card has another circle nestie that is sponged and has the sentiment stamped in chocolate chip ink. That stamp is by My Cute Stamps and is called Sweet Chocolate. The punches are from SU and Martha Stewart.
As I was making this card, it was making me think more and more of my Gramma Edith Hunt (my mom's mom) who passed away about 3 years ago. Everything from the paper to the wooden spoon and apron...she even wore a kerchief to town when her hair was in rollers. She was always cooking or baking and would feed us a loaf of homemade bread and churned butter and canned jam for lunch...Mmmmm...I can still taste it! In honour of her I think that I'll give this card to my mom for her birthday (Aug 17). I bet the first thing she'll think of when she see's it is Gramma too:)
