After the 4th of July, we find ourselves thrown right into another fun family tradition.
The Annual Pugh Family Reunion
Always a good time for all.
If you don't count the ride down there that is...right honey?
I think it's reached the funny point at this time, so let's share a little story, shall we?
We planned on leaving Thursday around 4 pm so we could beat the rush hour traffic. Someone hates driving in rush hour traffic. Whenever we are leaving town, I usually have the car all packed up and ready to go by the time Mark gets off of work. Well, that did not happen this time. I was headed to Young Women's Camp the day after we got home from Reunion so I was trying to make sure things were all ready to go for that. Also, my grandpa was not doing very well at all at this point in time, so my day quickly got away from me. I was preoccupied and did not make my usual packing checklist.
When Mark got home at 4, it was a little bit chaotic. My sweet friend, Jonelle, was "Bailey-sitting" for us so she was there getting some final instructions on that. The kids were running around trying to gather up last minute items. I gave Jonelle our extra house key and then she headed off to work. We finally got everyone in the car, thanks to my, umm, shall we say "firm words". I am pretty sure the words out of my mouth as we were pulling out of the driveway were,
"Did everyone get their shoes? Not just sandals, but actual shoes?"
We had to stop at Mark's parents house to grab a few items. Before we left their driveway, we decided that a prayer was in order. It was during this prayer that I had an "AHA" moment. That's when I looked down at my feet and low and behold...just flip flops. No shoes suitable for being in the mountains. Not on my feet. Not in my bag.
Oops.
Long story short, I did not have my house key with me and neither did Mark. I had given our extra key to Jonelle. So no way to get into our house for me to get shoes. The clock was quickly ticking by- closer and closer to rush hour traffic. After 2 trips back and forth to my in-laws house in search of our extra house key there (with no luck), I was able to get a hold of my neighbor who also has an extra key. I ran in, grabbed the correct shoes, and we were finally on our way. Right in time for rush hour traffic.
Despite a rough start, we finally made it to Reunion and had a great time. I think the kids favorite part was riding the 4 wheelers. I don't think there was a single moment during the day where a 4-wheeler was standing still.
We had fun with cousins, hanging out at the cabin, playing some awesome volleyball, and having the races.
We were also able to celebrate with our cute nephew, Ben, who proposed to his fiance on the top of Angel's Landing at Zion's National Park. Woohoo! We are so excited to have Marie join our family!
(sorry Ben...I stole your picture from Facebook.)
Lots of laughter. Lots of games. Lots of food. Lots of dirt.
Yep, a successful Reunion indeed.
Can't wait for next year!
