Hui Fang's convocation

This was way back to 23rd September, where this event I wouldn't want to miss out to place it in my blog for remembrance. It feels like just a blink of an eye, we just had a gathering dinner with Yu Jun for his graduation last year.

This year, it is my grand buddy's graduation!
Congratulations!
(Finally, the hard-earned title of Doctor)

If you aren't very sure what does grand buddy really stands for, there is this system in my uni called "Buddy System". Every time when you're promoted to Year 2 as senior, you're able to pick 1 junior which had just entered Year 1 as your buddy. This system were created initially to guide the freshmen when they first enter uni and the course. Years to years, the chain of choosing your own buddy goes on, it forms a line of buddy from Year 1 to Year 5 until graduation

It is okay if this is confusing, I'm pretty bad at explaining

Hui Fang (my grand buddy) & myself in front of the hall of KTSN
When I first enter Year 1, she was in Year 3. Time flies.

The number posed by each of us shows the sequence of our Buddy Line
Left to right:
Boon Chin (Year 5), Eddy (Year 3), Hui Fang (Houseman), myself (Year 4), Joanne (Year 2), Wan Ngor, our new little buddy! (Year 1)

After the event, we decided to have a dinner together because it takes all of us to have this gathering once a year (which we called it "annual" meeting)

We left KTSN which is located in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa around 6pm and we were stucked in a terrible jam on our way to Cheras. We spent 2 hours + in the car. We reached Cheras Leisure Mall with super flat tummy at 8pm. We had dinner without Hui Fang in Boston as she had a gathering in MV with her friends. But she promised to meet us up around 10pm.

We finally meet up with Hui Fang & we settled down in Gilly cafe

In Gilly cafe, having a private cubicle on our own with rounds of Jenga

After breaking the ice for the little buddy...

Tests on hand stability and concentration:

Boon Chin always go for the tough piece

I'm always going for the safe one or sometimes the one that will give the next player a really hard time

Joanne in full concentration

We left the place around 1am and Hui Fang paid for our drinks!
Really grateful to her, she stayed up late for us when she had her real convocation in UKM main campus the next morning!

During our sharing with each other, her graduation did give a push for us to keep moving on until our very own graduation day

Random dream

Warning: This is real random, sorry if it bored you :(

Dream of going to camp with fellow bloggers & it was raining heavily
Went there by bus, getting to know new friends along the journey
Reached the camp site & the rain stopped
Then, everyone was divided into rooms, 2 in a room
Heading towards my room & I realized that was my house new car garage!
(P.S - Sorry Carmen, because I dream of you as my roommate, I guess the wrong sms influenced the dream! LOL)
The sky is grey and it started raining again
All the girls gathered in my room and someone start by asking who wants Maggie mee
When I wanted to take out my phone & tweet "1st night of blogger camp"
I'm awake!
Shaite, it is 1.17pm already

Well, it is more of a black & white dream

Told Qi Tyng about the dream just now when we were having dinner in OUG
Off to buy stuff after the dinner
On the way back, we came up with a Camp Challenge inspired by the dream just now

7-day Camp Challenge
#1 3 pillows
#2 1 shampoo & conditioner
#3 2 big packs of toilet paper roll
#4 1 jar of mayonnaise

Randomness
Okay, ciaoz before everyone get bored
=.=

IMU Intervarsity Scrabble Championship

Last Saturday (16th April), I took the train to KL with Shalisha, a last minute plan to join IMU Intervarsity Scrabble Championship 2011. The morning I woke up, I kind of feel reluctant to get up and prepare myself to leave home. My bed pampered me so much that I feel like marrying it.

The train was supposed to reach at 11.40am, but it reached the station at 12.45pm. Waited in the station and sweat like pig for an hour. Anyway, the train seldom arrived on time. Malaysia public transport.

#1 Shalisha's Scrabble Travel Set & my Scrabble Players Dictionary
We were so lack of training in playing scrabble after the exams and spending holidays like there are 1234567890 hours a day.
We played scrabble in the train, a very clumsy style!

#2 Train broke down
Stopped in Kajang station freaking long. Then they told us to get down from the train and catch the komuter at the next platform to get to KL Sentral.
Fortunately, they didn't ask us to pay for the komuter tickets.
Never know how freaking packed the komuter was when all the train passengers hopped in

The day

#3 IMU Intervarsity Scrabble Championship
It is a team event, a team of 3
8 teams came for the competition which consist of IMU, UKM, USIM and Taylors
Most of the public universities are having examinations, so the tournament didn't involve much team

Every players had to go through 6 rounds of game
Win = 1 point
Draw = 0.5 point
Lost = 0 point
After playing all the games, the points of 3 players were add up

If the 3 players of the team won all 6 games, it is 18 points

#4 UKM Team - Foxy Mamas
Left: Shalisha (1st player), yours truly (2nd player), Kevin Tan (3rd player)
We didn't know that we had to come up with a team name, so Shalisha came up with FOXY MAMAS in 3 seconds.
Whenever the speaker call out our team, it will definitely tickle everyone's laughter!

 #5 Score sheet
This is one of my score sheet during Round 4 playing with Isaac from IMU
Foxy Mamas vs Faith
In case you're curious, I lost this game

#6 Official Scrabble Players Dictionary

My revision book for every tournament I went and I realized it was a bit behind the date already
There are a lot of new updated words in the new edition now, which I was quite lost when playing with the players
This dictionary was printed on 2004, that explains why it was kind of lack of words

"Don't ask any scrabbler what is the meaning of the word they make because we might not know the meaning, but we know it exists in the dictionary"

I learnt lots of new words during this tournament, such as Bez, Dex, Ziti, Wof, Tuba, Cmw etc
I was satisfied when I get to place a Bingo (make a word from all the 7 tiles I had) during my last round, Round 6 of the tournament

LUNATIC
Shalisha said, this really explain my mood after 6 rounds of game

Stressful environment. Gained experiences. Make new friends.

#7 Performances before prize giving ceremony
Very nice of them from IMU to loosen everybody up after being super saturated by all the words and games from 8.30am to 5.30pm with performances
Not to forget, IMU is so nice and well equipped!

#8 FB status explains it all
Our team finished 4th with 11 points out of 18 points
I won 4 games and lost 2 games
Contributed 4 points to my team, which I am pretty satisfied

Congratulations to IMU for winning the 1st and 2nd place & Taylors Lakeside Campus for the 3rd placing!

#9 Certificate of Participation & 4th place trophy
Very happy already for an average player like me
This tournament really open my eyes on great players and realized the huge space of improvement that I had to work it out!

#10 Back to Segamat, Johor
Took the 9am Monday train back to my hometown

Suffered neck, shoulder and back pain from the tournament where we were required to sit throughout all the stressful games

Friends in Segamat

I was still having my own sweet time pigging when Xu Vin (pronounced her name as Eevin! Don't ask me why, LOL) texted telling me that she will be heading to Segamat with Shalisha, Pei Sun, Mar-Jie and Kevin!

Finally I get to meet them up at 8pm

Top: Shalisha, my ex-class monitor for 3 years in Primary and Secondary school and CURRENTLY my course mate as well
Middle: Xu Vin (left) & Pei Sun (right), both are my course mates
Bottom: Mar-Jie, a friend of Xu Vin that I knew when I was in first year, currently she wasn't in UKM anymore (great to see her again) & myself!

Anyway, Kevin wasn't around, he was back in KL already

Those soft toys were just irresistible and we just went in to squeeze with them

Her first time in Segamat.. Snapping lots of picture!

They are trying to assess which soft toys are cuter and weirder
Rows and rows of plushies!!!
Me heart it max max!

The one that I heart the MOST!
Porcupine!
Don't you just like the nose, awwwwww....

She suddenly had a random thought to buy this for her Mom's birthday
Imagining her bringing this all the way to Sarawak and show to her Mom
In case you're curious, she didn't bought it

After plushie hugging, we went to Old Taste Kopitiam next door

Our drinks!
Soy milk with cincau, Old Taste Delight (3-layered coffee tea), Jasmine Aloe Vera, Milo Float

Xu Vin ordered Roti Susu for herself!

Since I haven't take my dinner yet, I satisfied my tummy with Ikan Bilis Fried Rice with Egg
I recommend this fried rice!
The rice is awesome, the sambal is awesome!
Very big portion, super full after that

I'm glad that they are here in Segamat and I hope they had fun!

18th March 2011 marks the last day of my Surgery posting after 8 weeks struggling in this posting
It also marks the end of Year 3 2010/2011 academic session
And also this is the beginning of study week

Half of the batch will be using their 1 week period to munch books of Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynecology
While the other half of my colleagues will do whatever possible for Internal Medicine and Community Health

This time I will be siting for Surgery paper as well as Obstetrics and Gynecology
Fortunate enough to say I already pass my Internal Medicine and Community Health last semester
So, finger crossing that I can pass the other 2 papers to get me through the door of Year 4

Final exam will starts on the 28th March and end on 4th April
I will have 2 months break to relax and to do my elective
(Hopefully I don't have to spend this 2 months to reseat for any papers)

Basically I will spend my 2 months in my hometown, bidding goodbye to Kuala Lumpur!

I'm going home tomorrow
Spending my study week being a well-pampered princess at home
Hope I'm not distracted!
Will be back on 27th March

This is where we had our lectures and seminars throughout Surgery posting
We called this place Stargate
Spot 2 giant plasma TV?

My beloved group member of Team Hepatobiliary 1
Aaron is not in the picture
(And it is very normal to have more girls than guys)
Thanks to my Farhana, Nadhira, Syud, Sue Ann and Aaron for these 8 weeks!

Coming to the end of Year 3 after 4 postings:
Internal Medicine, where we clerk and clerk and clerk patients everyday

Community Health, where we travel our way to Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor for fieldworks and surveys. Not forgetting the awesome seafood there and how everyone spend their time to bond and create "scandals"!

Obstetrics & Gynecology (O&G), where all of us had first hand experiencing to help deliver babies, feel the pain & love of a mother and also the numbness of being scold almost everyday. Not to forget, how all of us had on-call for 12 hours twice a week from 7am to 7pm and also 7pm to 7am shift.

Surgery posting, where everyone become so blur and also lots of clerking and seminars to present

Let's hope ALL of us will not go over this cycle again (especially O&G posting!)

With here, to my colleagues:
Happy Study Week!
All the best!
God bless!

Bareno Run 2011

I'm not someone with good stamina
I never join long distance run before in school
I never be serious in cross country last time

After days of considering to join or not since November
After months of jogging either serious training or not
Last training was one week ago
Only clocked myself twice for 5km
No experience on what should I do before and during the race

Had been asking myself
Should I bring a bottle to run?
Should I bring towel?
Buy new sports shoes?
What pants should I wear?
What should I eat one day before?
What should I have for breakfast?

This is my first time running long distance early in the morning
Very nervous and having uncertainty about my stamina the night before the run
Finally, the day has come!

Bareno Run 2011
The first ever run that I dare myself to join even without proper training

Went to Stadium Bukit Jalil with Qi Tyng to collect our vest and bib number one day before the run

Qi Tyng and my bib number!
She called it the human paper plate number
It was funny when they gave us a free piece of Salonpas after we confirmed our registration
We joked that we need that Salonpas when we had cramp during the run
LOL!

Run day!

Woke up at 5am to prepare ourselves and had breakfast
We were so jakun when we reached there and not sure what should we do
We just follow those people that wore the blue bib number starting with 'K' (female 5km category)

Initially we heard the announcement for the 10km participants to get ready at the starting line
Qi Tyng and I still taking our own sweet time
After awhile, we see the 5km participants started to run
We were like, "Are you sure we are in the right group?"
No more announcement and people start running, then only we followed
So blur!

We started at 6.40am

Along the way we had to gone through 1 checkpoint and 1 water station
Speaking about the water station, those people just simply threw the plastic cup everywhere along the road
Even after 100 metres, there were still trail of plastic cups!
Some where in the middle of the track that I had to jump over while running

I reached the finishing line at 7.25am, taking 45 minutes to finish 5km
So far, this was my best time!
Surprisingly I crossed the line as the 155th person for my category and they gave me a finisher medal
If I'm not mistaken, the finisher medal is available for top 200 for my category
All of us get the certificate!

The atmosphere was very good and lots of people
The finishing line beside the lake was just so cool
I gone through the list of participants, around 4000 ++, near 5000 participants for 3 categories
5km, 10km and 21km
The guys wore neon green vest and the red vest for the girls

Thanks God for the superb weather, it was cooling!
After the race, there were free mineral water by Spritzer and 100 Plus with Gardenia Red Bean bun
Besides, they were food and drinks booth providing watermelon and taufu fa
I saw a cendol van somewhere at the side too

Met my course mates that join the run too!
The big picture (from left): Kak Aishah & Izat (10km), Kee Tat (21km), yours truly and Izat's sister, Wafa (5km)
All of us got the finisher medals

I called this satisfaction!
I'm happy but still need to train more
