Blumenthal's Blundering Bluster: Pro-Union Attorney General Turns Out to Be a Liar

Whenever there was a picket line, he was there.  A brief to be filed on a union boss's behalf?  He wrote it and filed it.  He was, to the say the least, union bosses' highest friend in Connecticut's Democrat apparatchik and, as attorney general, Richard Blumenthal aspired to higher office.

Unfortunately, like many politicians, Slippery Dick Blumenthal lied misled, repeatedly, on his resume.
At a ceremony honoring veterans and senior citizens who sent presents to soldiers overseas, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut rose and spoke of an earlier time in his life.

“We have learned something important since the days that I served in Vietnam,” Mr. Blumenthal said to the group gathered in Norwalk in March 2008. “And you exemplify it. Whatever we think about the war, whatever we call it — Afghanistan or Iraq — we owe our military men and women unconditional support.”

There was one problem: Mr. Blumenthal, a Democrat now running for the United States Senate, never served in Vietnam. He obtained at least five military deferments from 1965 to 1970 and took repeated steps that enabled him to avoid going to war, according to records.

No word yet from the union bosses backing Blumenthal, though we suspect all will be forgiven if it looks like Slippery Dick still has a shot at winning the election.

After all, why let a little thing like honesty stand in the way of a good union candidate?

Unions Have Become Democrats' ATM Machine

Ken Sagar, president of the Iowa Federation of Labor has a bone to pick with Democrats.
I understand that a party that alleges to support workers and advance the middle class, uses the labor movement as an ATM, as a source of free campaign workers, as a strong back to carry them to victory, and a perceived weak mind that would not notice the huge disparity between promises and deliveries. Suffice to say, we have noticed.

Sagar's not alone. Union bosses and other Lefties all over the country have been grousing over the Democrats' inability to pass the job-destroying and hallucinogenically-named Employee Free Choice Act and, more recently, failing to seat hand-picked SEIU attorney Craig Becker onto the National Labor Relations Board.

Connie Leyva, president of Local 1428 of the United Food and Commercial Workers, which represents grocery workers in western San Bernardino County, said she was "infuriated" by that [Becker] vote....

"The hard part for us is getting our Democratic elected officials to commit to doing what they're supposed to do," she said. "They're wavering and they need to act."

We've been saying for quite some time that the Democratic Party has become the de facto Labor Party in the United States.  However, after spending hundreds of millions of dollars to secure the obedience of the Democratic majorites in Congress (and the White House), apparently union bosses are beginning to feel they've been scammed.

SEIU's Stern: Some Senate Dems are 'terrorists'...

From HuffPo comes this amazingly interesting choice of words from the SEIU's lavender-lapeled lord of labor Andy Stern speaking at the Center for American Progress:
Reflecting on the policy changes that these senators [Democrats Joe Lieberman, CT and Ben Nelson, NE] secured during health care negotiations, he argued that the country "should send the national security people over to [the Senate to] explain to them why we don't negotiate with terrorists..."

"Because there are a lot of terrorists in the Senate who think we are supposed to negotiate with them when they have their particular needs that they want met," he added.

"Are the Senate rules really appropriate for a 21st-century country where we can create gridlock by very limited hard work?" Stern added. "If we are going to have filibusters, let's at least have a debate. At least make people go to the floor. Let's put the cots on the floor permanently... Change can easily die in the wells of the Senate."

Asked how badly he wanted filibuster reform, he replied: "Very badly."

One could snidely comment about Stern's use of the term terrorist It takes one to know one.  (But we won't.)
