Why Is It ...

… that when someone asks, “Who got you smiling,” I always say, “The voices in my head just cracked a joke. Leave us alone.”

… that after this past year I wanna give myself a big hug because I’m still standing.

… that Family Dollar always seems to have just one cashier. Where’s the rest of the family?

… that winter doesn’t bother me; I also become cold and dark after 4PM.

… that one of the weirdest things about being an adult is having a favorite stove top burner; no one ever talks about it but y’all know it’s true and y’all have one.

… that it’s always, “How was work?” and never, “Quit and I’ll support you.”

… that I still miss that part of 2020 when it was illegal for anyone to come near me.

…that when I yell at birds in the street to move so they don’t get run over is kind of how I see the universe watching me live my life.

… that I know I would not waste away in Margaritaville; in fact, I would thrive!

Another Deadly Milestone

This week we hit that mark … Covid-19 is now officially the deadliest outbreak in recent American history, surpassing the US fatalities from the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic. You know, when we had no vaccines and access to health care was far worse than today.

Now over eighteen months into this thing deaths due to Covid in America alone crossed the 675,000 mark on Monday and are rising at an average of more than 1,900 fatalities each and every day, due to the fast-spreading Delta Variant.

The 1918 flu—which came in three waves, from the spring of 1918, the fall of 1918, and the winter and spring of 1919—killed an estimated 675,000 Americans in total, so now a 100 years later with modern technologies and treatments and new science available, we are still watching Americans die.

But by all means, please tell me masks don’t work and vaccines don’t work, because these new deaths and new cases fall squarely at the feet of those who don’t mask up and didn’t get the prick because … because.

Let’s compare that flu in 1918 and 1919, and COVID in 2020 and 2021:

In 1918 the US population was an estimated 103 million people; in 2020 the population was roughly 330 million. That means the 1918 flu killed about 1 in every 150 Americans, while COVID has taken the lives of 1 in 500.

Sure, there were fewer people in this country in 1918, so the percentages of those who died then are greater than today but think about healthcare and vaccines and treatments that we have today that were mere dreams to medical professionals a century ago. Unlike today, there was no vaccine for the 1918 flu; unlike today there was no CDC or national public health department; there were no antibiotics, intensive care units, ventilators or IV fluids.

And yet now more of us are dying than died then … some 2,000 a day.

The greatest country on Earth with the most stupid people who are more concerned with vacations and bars and football games than they are with helping save their fellow men and women.

And children.

Sick and Dying of Something

Robert David Steele, a devout QAnon-nutbag and COVID denier, has apparently died from the virus. Steele refused to wear a mask and called COVID a hoax.

Marc Bernier, an anti-vaxxer talk radio host, died after a three-week battle with COVID.

Caleb Wallace, a leader in the anti-mask movement in central Texas, and labeled COVID a hoax, has come down with the virus, and has been in intensive care for the past three weeks clinging to life.

Lisa Steadman, a Winter Haven woman, was recently hospitalized with COVID and is now grieving the loss of her husband who died from COVID-19 complications while she was hospitalized. Lisa says that neither of them had received a COVID-19 vaccine, not because they were against it, but because they wanted to wait.

An anonymous unvaccinated elementary school teacher in California was diagnosed with COVID has infected half of the students in their classroom. The teacher showed up to work while symptomatic, and continued to teach for two days before receiving a test.

Tim Parsons, a Kentucky pastor, has died from COVID-19 despite desperate prayers from his congregation asking the Lord to restore him “back to his normal self.”

Joe Manning, a longtime member of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office who pushed Ivermectin as a COVID drug has died after a shirt battle with the virus.

Again, in these cases, ignorance was also a virus.

More People Sick With "Something" Asking For Your Prayers and Your Coins

North Carolina GOP Representative Keith Kidwell has filed lawsuits, joined ReOpen NC rallies, refused to wear a mask, spoken out against requiring vaccines and filed legislation to strip the governor of his ability to declare a state of emergency during the pandemic.

Now Kidwell is hospitalized, as his wife, with COVID-19.

The Beaufort County Republican Party has asked people to gather outside the Beaufort County Hospital to pray for the Kidwells, the hospital workers and other patients.

Pray that if the recover from this they actually start listening to medical professionals and scientists and not Fox News, or QAnon or some GOP Representative who doesn’t have the good sense God gave a goat.

But wait, there’s more … there’s the Comager family, who opted to take a vacation to Puerto Vallarta during a pandemic. And when they tried to leave Mexico, the father and two children tested positive for COVID-19 before boarding their flight home. And, since air passengers traveling to the US must have a negative COVID test to board a plane, the three family members could not come home.

Until Yolanda Comager discovered they did not need a negative test to travel by land, so she booked her husband and children on a bus to El Paso. She then rented a car and drove to Texas to pick up her family and discovered her husband had gotten worse before reaching El Paso.

The husband was taken off the bus and put on a ventilator in a Chihuahua hospital. Yolanda told the press that their insurance was not accepted in Mexico and so the family wants to GoFundMe their hospital bills.

Yolanda, who says she had COVID in the past, has tested positive for the virus again, and says her husband has finally been transferred to a New Orleans hospital where he remains intubated.

Sounds like a lovely vacation for a family of fools.

Typical behavior for anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers. Rage against the virus until you get sick and nearly die and then beg for money to pay for your hospital bills. If only they hadn’t decided to get away to Mexico for a vacation, they might have had the money.

COVIDIOTS.

ISBL Asshat of the Week: "Dr." Scott Atlas

It was just last month that a group of whiny GOP snowflakes, spurred on by the rhetoric of an asshatted president, were arrested after plotting to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer, the Governor of Michigan, and try to overthrow the state government.

And this week we have White House coronavirus task force member Dr. Scott Atlas took to Twitter to criticize Michigan's new Covid-19 restrictions:

"The only way this stops is if people rise up. You get what you accept. #FreedomMatters #StepUp"

Rise up? After the attempt on the governor’s life, this fool has the balls to suggest the people of Michigan rise up because what, they might be ordered to wear a mask, or stay six feet apart, or endure a temporary lockdown, to save the lives of themselves or others? What the fuck kind of doctor is Atlas?

Whitmer, responded to Atlas' tweet by saying:

"We know that the White House likes to single us out here in Michigan, me out in particular. I'm not going to be bullied into not following reputable scientists and medical professionals."

Or lunatics who call for insurrection.

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel was less politically correct, calling Atlas' comments “disappointing, irresponsible, and the reason why the United States finds itself in such desperate circumstances regarding COVID-19." And then she said:

"I look forward to a new federal administration that works cooperatively with our state government to protect Michigan residents. A patriot is one who protects America from its enemies, both foreign and domestic. COVID-19 is the enemy, not each other. Stop pitting Americans against each other and start supporting policies proven to effectively fight the virus."

And the last thing we need is another _____ wingnut trying to start a war, or endanger the lives of our elected officials … or each other.

Scott Atlas is a COVIDIOT and the ISBL Asshat of the week.
