Faith Friday
• Frederick Clarkson has a great summary of rescued Daily Kos diaries on the Religious Right.
• Tim Simpson has an answer for conservatives who claim that Warren Buffet was only saying that he was against the estate tax repeal because he had lawyers and accountants working on his estate so that he would not have to pay a cent.
• Faithful Progresasive reports that poverty in post-Katrina America just keeps getting worse under George W. Bush.
• Lydia Cornell has received a letter from an officer (also a blogger) stationed in Iraq, and she urges her readers to send out a care package to these men and women who are serving our country. She even provides an address.
• At Street Prophets, PastorDan says that he believes the Church is at its best when it trends toward the counter-cultural. He quotes from a current column by Southern Baptist ethicist and leader David Gushee, who'd offered his opinion about the Iraq war last June:
"...as Christians, we need a distinctively Christian witness that calls followers of Jesus back to faithful obedience to the teachings of the Bible. We need to analyze dismal human realities, such as war, in light of what Jesus said about them, rather than using merely worldly categories of thought."At Levellers, Michael Westmoreland-White also discusses Mr. Gushee's break with Just War tradition.
