Jjajang and Champeong Rice

I don't wanna cook anything so I asked my hubby what he wanted to eat. He said he didn't have anything in mind so I checked the food book and order this jjajangpap (black noodles with rice) and champeongpap (noodles with seafoods and rice). I didn't expect much about this food because I know that it's not as good as the famous chinese restaurants that we usually go to but there's nothing wrong in trying. What if it's delicious? At least we don't have to drive for almost an hour to eat Chinese food, right?

Well, here's what we ordered.

You can choose two menus in one order so I chose "fried rice" and "sweet and sour pork" (tangsuyug) and the other one is "jjajang and champeong". Oh well, my expectation wasn't wrong. It wasn't delicious. What can we expect more with the cheap dish? It's just worth the money. All I can say is, I will never order this kind of food in this restaurant anymore. Never!

Kanpunggi

There is a new restaurant booklet hanging at our door so I checked it and found kanpunggi. Kanpunggi is chicken fried with flour and seasoned with spicy sauce. I used to order kanpunggi but a few months ago, I tried to call the restaurant several times and it seems like the restaurant has been closed. After seeing the Kanpunggi, I told my hubby to try it so we ordered a small size of it and we weren't disappointed for trying it. It's much more delicious than the kanpunggi restaurant where we used to order. Now I understand why my students recommended me to eat kanpunggi which I've never heard before. I knew the menu from them but I was upset when I first tried it. I think it's the reason why the kanpunggi where I used to order was bankrupted. You know what I mean?

Anyway, this kanpunggi is really delicious. Just the way I like it. It's sweet, spicy and crunchy. Now I prefer to order kanpunggi than chicken because of this.

Doesn't it look yummy? It's also healthy because it has lots of bell peppers and onions so I sometimes eat it with the vegetables. The salad is also delicious. Btw, salad in Korea is an appetizer and not dessert. If you go to the restaurant salad is always the first one to be served. So Koreans eat salad first before rice and the main dish.

Kimchi Bossam

When I'm tired from work and don't like to feel like cooking, I usually order some food. Also, if I want to be free from cooking specially on weekends or just craving for something yummy, I also pick the restaurants booklet and dial the number.

Today, we decided to have kimchi bossam. Kimchi Bossam is pork eaten with sweet and fresh kimchi. The kimchi is newly-made and it is sweeter than the normal kimchi. Like samgyopsal, kimchi bossam is also eaten with vegetables. Get a piece of lettuce leaf, put some pork, garlic and chilli pepper dipped with seasoned bean paste, and then kimchi and wrap.

Kimchi Bossam usually comes with bibim kuksu (noodles mixed with hot chilli pepper and some vegetables) for appetizer.

Sweet Potato Pizza

I don't like sweet potatoes much but when it comes to pizza and cake, I prefer to eat sweet potato flavor. I think sweet potato pizza is more delicious than meat or vegetables.

I ordered this sweet potato pizza last weekend from Maru Pizza which is just across my apartment building. At first, they don't deliver but later on they do but you will be charged 2,000won more for the delivery fee. I think it's expensive so when I order I call first and pick it up afer 10 minutes.

I ordered pizza and added potato mousse for only 1,000won because sweet potato pizza is more delicious with sweet potato mousse. Here's the pizza.

When you order pizza in Korea, it always comes with pickles. If you want hot sauce and garlic sauce, you have to pay additional for that. Also, pizza is not complete without softdrinks so you can also order a liter of softdrinks at the restaurant and bring home.

Myeongpum Chicken

When I first came in Jeju Island, I laughed at the chicken shop named Myeongpum Chicken which means Find Article Chicken, Brand Chicken or chicken with a name. I thought it was so funny because I know lots of famous chicken restaurants like BHC, Nene Chicken, Mexicana Chicken, Pelicana Chicken, Gyocheon Chicken, BBQ Chicken, etc. (too many to mention) but this myeongpum chicken is new to me. Besides its name is Brand name so I wondered if it's really delicious as the ones that I've mentioned above. Anyway, my hubby also thought that the name is just a Brand name but it's not a shop with a brand name anyway. So we never tried to order in that restaurant.

But when my brother in law came to visit us, he mentioned about this Myeongpum chicken. He said it's famous in Jeju Island so he wanted to try it. My hubby said there's one near us but we never tried it so we ordered for my brother in law. Wow~ we never thought that it was delicious. We found out that the chicken restaurant is also a franchise brand in Jeju Island.

The chicken is delicious but too bad that it's just a little. It's not enough for three people. It's just good for two unlike other famous chicken restaurants, there's always left over when I eat with my hubby. But when we order myeongpum chicken, the amount is not enough for two of us. Anyway, here's the chicken.

Kubne Chicken

One of my favorite chicken brand is Kubne chicken or Roasted chicken. A chicken restaurant that serve roasted chicken. They don't use oil when they cook chicken so it's not greasy. My favorite menu is the Teriyaki Chicken with leeks or spring onions with sauce. Teriyaki Chicken is 15,000won or $13 and leeks with sauce is 2,000won ($1.8).

I already collected 8 coupons and I think it's better to order more so I can collect 10 coupons and change them for chicken. Anyway, look at this. Doesn't it look yummy?

The spring onions with sauce and two kinds of chicken sauce. The spicy and not the spicy one. Of course the pickled radish always come when you order chicken.

Gejang

Ganjang gejang is soy sauce marinated raw crab dish. Yangnyeom gejang or Spicy Crab is marinated crabs in gochujang (chili pepper paste). It is a dish which is made with raw crabs and a spicy and sweet sauce of chili pepper powder, and ground Korean pear, onions, ginger, etc.

We had dinner at the restaurant and before we left we ordered more and asked the waitress to pack it so we can take it out. Here's what we took home.



Yangnyeom gejang (right photo) is my hubby's favorite. It is sometimes serve in the restaurant and it comes with some side dishes when you order the main dish specially to barbecue or samgyeopsal restaurant.

In my case, I prefer ganjanggejang (left photo) than yangnyeom gejang. Ganjang gejang is delicious when you put rice on the top shell of the crab. It's yummy. It's one of my favorites. It's a little bit salty so it's better to eat with rice. Looking at the pictures make me feel hungry. I'm craving for gejang again.

Our Meals at Bangjangsan Campsite

We went camping in Bangjangsan Recreation Forest and here's what we had at the camp site.

We usually order chicken at home and bring it at the camp site and have it for lunch. So here's our lunch. Some chicken, eggs, hot pepper and kimchi.



We arrived at the camp site at late noon so we had lunch late. But before it gets dark, we decided to have dinner. And because we aren't hungry, we just had eggs, fruits and yoghurt. Our left over from our lunch and dessert.



I remember that I forgot to wash the dishes at home when we went camping in Hwemunsan Recreation Forest. At that time, I also forgot to bring dishwashing liquid. So, here I washed them at the camp site.



We don't usually have breakfast at home because we always sleep and get up late but at the camp, we have to sleep early and get up early. We are so hungry after getting up unlike when we're at home we always have midnight snacks but in the camp we can't because we are asleep at midnight. But it's still hard to have rice for breakfast so we just had bread and coffee.

Boyeong Chinese Restaurant

After a few months of staying here in Jejudo, we finally found a good restaurant. Boyeong Chinese Restaurant in Hallim serves delicious tangsuyug (sweet and sour pork) and samseon champeong (seafoods noodles).

My hubby went to the supermarket and saw the signboard chinese restaurant. He got off his car and asked for a business card. The next day, my hubby called and he told them to prepare tangsuyug and champeong and we were gonna pick it up after 30 minutes. They can't deliver the food to our home because it's far.

After 30 minutes we drove to the restaurant and picked it up. Here's tangsuyug and champeong was still in the restaurant. The waiter forgot to put tangsuyug in the plastic bag so my hubby called and the owner said they would deliver the champeong instead. Good! Because it's a bother to pick it up again. Besides it was their mistake. Anyway, it seems like the boss is kind enough so they delivered champeong to our home.



The sauce. It looks and taste much different from most Chinese restaurant.



Here's the champeong. It was late but we were satisfied with the service. I think they intended to put much in the bowl and make it more delicious.



Hmmmm... the most delicious tangsuyug and champeong that I've ever tasted in Jejudo.



The restaurant is near Hallim Hospital (Hallim Pyeongwon). From Hallin Hospital, go straight and you'll see a bus stop. Across the bus stop is Boyeong Chinese Restaurant. You won't miss it! It's next to Hallacom 119.

Teri Bake Chicken

When we bought Nanta Pizza, we saw that next to the pizza shop was a chicken shop brand named Gubnechicken. It's one of the famous chicken brand here in Korea so my hubby went inside the shop and asked for a pamphlet. The next time that we went to the supermarket, we dropped by to the shop and tried their new menu, the Teri bake chicken with crispy and fresh onion leaks and sauce.

The chicken costs $15 and if you want the leaks and sauce, you have to pay $2 more. I prefer to have the leaks and sauce. It's delicious. I tried different kinds of chicken menu with different brands and this Teri Bake Chicken is one the most delicious menu that I've ever tasted.

Nanta Pizza

It was past 10p.m. and my hubby was craving for pizza. He looked for the number and ordered pizza. Actually, the pizza shop doesn't deliver until here in my place so hubby called to prepare the pizza and we picked it up. My hubby had 3 slices and I had one.

We ordered the cheese bite pizza with sweet potato mousse for only $10 at Nanta Pizza. Nanta 5000 Pizza is a korean pizza store that sells different kinds of pizza. You can have a pan of pizza for only 5,000 won around $5. I think it's where it got its name. But I don't recommend the 5,000won pizza. It's better to get the more expensive one which is more delicious of cours.

Duck Porridge

There's an interesting site online where you can get discounts to the restaurants when you buy online. Mostly, they give 50% discount. It depends on which restaurants are available on that day. Oh, it's not day, you have to check the internet at 12m.n. because the events starts on midnight. The restaurants changed everyday so you have to check out your favorite restaurants. Or you can just check out and choose the food that you want to eat. It doesn't matter when you want to go to the restaurant. My hubby said it takes about 2 months. So, if you choose the food and pay online, then you can go to the restaurant anytime. When you pay, you can just tell your name at the restaurant because they have the list of the people who ordered online.

It's our second time to use the groupon and we were happy with the restaurants that we've chosen. This one is duck porridge. It's too big for us. It's 3kgs. so even if we didn't have breakfast, we couldn't eat all.



Here's the rice use for porridge. After eating the duck soup, then we can make porridge. But the duck is too big so we couldn't eat the rice. I just had the seeds, chestnuts, beans, etc.



Btw, it's better to make a reservation before you go to the restaurant because some of them have many customers because of the event and you have to wait for a long time.

Jumbo Special Pizza

There's a newly-open pizza shop just accross from my apartment. It's cheap and yummy. It's pizzamaru. It's a franchise pizza shop. It's not as delicious as Pizza H* or other expensive pizza restaurants but much better than other pizza shops. Anyway, it was newly-open so we decided to try it and here what we've got. The Jumbo Special Pizza.



It's too big for the two of us. But it's delicious is instead of having a slice, we both had two slices of pizza. Yum! Do you want some?



The only bad thing is they don't deliver. But it's just a few steps away so we can call and pick it up when it's done.

Duldul Chicken

There are different kinds of Chicken restaurant in Korea. Most of them are franchise restaurants. BHC, Mexicana, Pelicana, Ajuker, Chokajip, Nene, etc.. are just some of the delicious chicken that I've tasted. Of course Kanpungi and Salad Mognun Chicken (Chicken eaten with salad) are excluded because they have different menu. I have tasted most of the chicken menu from different restaurants except Duldul (Two Two) Chicken. I'm not interested with the name so I don't think it's delicious.

I told you many times that we always sleep late so when we're hungry, we usually order food and sea food or chicken is what we always expect. My hubby was hungry again but he didn't wanna eat seafood or any chicken that I mentioned above. Then he said, how about trying Duldul chicken. I agreed although I didn't expect much. I'm just afraid that it would disappoint me again like the other chicken that we ordered when we try to another to another restaurant. But thanks I wasn't. It's also yummy! It's more delicious than some of my favorite chicken dish that I mentioned above.

Here's duldul chicken. The chicken came with delicious vegetable salad and spicy rice cake. Also with Cola and radish pickle like what most chicken restaurant serve when you order chicken.

Can you eat raw fish?

During the summer, it's a little bit dangerous to eat raw fish. They said it's not good for our stomach to eat raw fish when it's hot. But now that it's winter, we can eat raw fish anytime we want. It was late at night and my hubby was hungry after watching the dvd that we rented. He looked at the menu for this month catalog of the restaurants near here so the seafoods caught his eyes. The restaurant is open until late at night so he ordered this.


The restaurant used to give lots of side dishes but maybe because it's too late so they just gave us some of the side dishes. That's okay though because we are only interested with the raw fish and not the dishes that we just have a taste and then throw away. The dishes that they delivered is just perfect combination of the raw fish so we didn't have to throw away much food.

Btw, can you eat raw fish? I couldn't before but after trying it for several times, it now tastes delicious. Why don't you try some. Do it several times and you can get used to it.

Cheese and King-Sized Pork Cutlet

We came from work and I was so lazy to prepare lunch. You know when you're hungry everything is delicious specially if you see some pictures of pork cutlet. I saw an advertisement posted in front of our apartment so I took it and ordered two pork cutlets. One cheese pork cutlet for me and wang (king size) pork cutlet for my hubby. The packed and the texture impressed us when we opened it.



The first bite was okay but after eating several times, the meat is getting strange. Or maybe we were just hungry so we couldn't get the real taste of the pork cutlet but when our stomachs started to fill up, the taste was so strange. My cheese pork cutlet was bitter, I guessed the cheese was fake (I saw on tv that some restaurants are using fake cheese) and my hubby's wang donkas (king-sized pork cutlet) smells strange. The pork smells like stinky socks. Yuck~

When we started to taste and smell the strange things so threw it away. We'll never order in that restaurant. If I like the food in the restaurant, I always keep the business card but that pork cutlet restaurant, well, you know what I did.

Bossam

Another ordered food that we had for dinner. We were tired of ordering chicken so we tried bossam.


Bossam is eaten with delicious kimchi. You have to wrap the meat with the kimchi and some vegetables like garlic, chilli, etc.. The kimchi is crunchy and sweeter than the normal kimchi.

The bossam came with noodles, soup, cola, korean pizza (puchinggae) and some vegetables.

Eat Chicken with Salad

It was too late and we were hungry. We didn't know what to order so we came up with chicken again. This time it's the salad mogneun chicken (eat the chicken with salad). I heard a lot about this salad and chicken specially to students. They said it's delicious but I didn't get a good impression on my first bite, it wasn't as delicious as I expected. I think the chicken is salty and overcooked and the salad is bland.

I was almost done with my midnight snack but then I decided to eat together. Salad and chicken in one bite. Then I tried another bite again and again and again. Aha, It's not bad at all. That's what they get its name. You have to eat the chicken with salad. Now, I got it!

Kanpunggi

My hubby just told me to order some food for dinner last night. I don't know what to order because I don't feel like eating chicken. I browsed the books where the restaurants including phone numbers are listed and I asked him he wanted to try this kanpunggi. He said he couldn't remember if he already ate this dish so I ordered one. It looks greasy but delicious too because of the vegetables toppings.

Kanpunggi is like spicy tangsuyug (sweet and sour pork) but instead of pork they used chicken. And it's also sweeter and hotter than tangsuyug. It's too much for two people so I served the left over this morning. I found out that kanpunggi is more delicious in the morning. I put in the oven for a minute with the vegetables so it tasted better.

Raw fish (sashimi)

After taking a walk for more than 40 minutes, my hubby felt hungry. As soon as we arrived home, he took the booklet, dialed the phone and ordered this.



Even if I didn't hear him talking on the phone and heard what he ordered, I already expected that he would order raw fish because we passed to many seafood restaurants on our way home. Raw fish (sashimi) is delicious in cold weather and we can't eat it in summer so when it gets cold, my hubby enjoys himself eating raw fish and some sea creatures. Of course I join him.
