Cheese Cup Noodles

Except from Kimchi, Korea is also famous for its noodles. Most of their noodles are too spicy. I've been living in Korea for more than 10 years but I've never seen cheese noodles until I saw a program on TV where they indorse some famous food in a convenience store. They said they are the most popular food in the stores and some people don't know about them. I don't go to convenience store except when I go with my hubby when he buys cigars. We have a supermarket just in front of my apartment building so I don't need to go to convenience store.

I got interested in the one of the food that they show, the Cheese Cup Noodles. I love cheese and I wonder what it tastes in noodles. At first I thought it's yucky because cheese and noodles don't sound good to be blended. But still, I want to try it. So when my hubby went to the market, he bought a cup noodles for me. He tasted it and he didn't like it much but for me, it's really yummy!

Here's what it looks like. Doesn't it look yummy?

Like regular cup noodles, just pour some hot water in your noodle, put the seasonings and when it's readyor when the noodle is soft, put the cheese and mix it. Wow! Try it! You may like it too if you like cheese.

Famous Marine Chopped Noodles

When we went to Gunsan to meet my hubby's friend, he invited us to have kalguksu or marine chopped noodles. From his place, we drove for about 30 minutes to get to the famous marine chopped noocles restaurant. It was a little bit far but it worth it eventhough we had to get back from where we've been to, to take him home.

The place is famous for kalguksu and there are lots of restaurants with the same menus but we went to the one with lots of people (That's what we always check when we go to restaurants that are not familiar to us. If there are many customers, then the food is delicious.) to make that the food is good. So, we decided to eat to Somunan Kalguksu or Rumored Traditional Chopped Noodles.

We ordered good for three people and here's what they gave us.

Oh wow! It's too much! But we almost had it all. We were very full and we were very satisfied with the food because it was yummy. But there was a problem with the service. Maybe because there were lots of customers but that wasn't a reason not to serve the customers well. Hubby's friend asked some more kimchi (you can get refill in all side dishes in the restaurant here in Korea) and the waitress passed several times without giving us anything. Then he thought maybe she forgot about it then she told her again but still nothing came on our table. How much is one minute to get some kimchi? I tried to understand her because she was tired. Then finally, the kimchi came but I was already annoyed.

Except noodles, they also serve brown rice and of course side dishes which is normal to all restaurants to serve different kinds of side dishes.

Near the parking lot, there's also a small amusement park, so after having yummy marine chopped noodles, you can have fun or send your kids to amusement park.

Jjajang and Champeong Rice

I don't wanna cook anything so I asked my hubby what he wanted to eat. He said he didn't have anything in mind so I checked the food book and order this jjajangpap (black noodles with rice) and champeongpap (noodles with seafoods and rice). I didn't expect much about this food because I know that it's not as good as the famous chinese restaurants that we usually go to but there's nothing wrong in trying. What if it's delicious? At least we don't have to drive for almost an hour to eat Chinese food, right?

Well, here's what we ordered.

You can choose two menus in one order so I chose "fried rice" and "sweet and sour pork" (tangsuyug) and the other one is "jjajang and champeong". Oh well, my expectation wasn't wrong. It wasn't delicious. What can we expect more with the cheap dish? It's just worth the money. All I can say is, I will never order this kind of food in this restaurant anymore. Never!

Mul Naengmyeon

Mul Naengmyeon or cold soup noodles (Buck wheat noodle in cold beef broth) is famous korean cuisine specially in summer. They added ice in the soup so it's very cool and refreshing in the summer. Here in Jejudo, kogi naengmyeon or cold noodle soup with meat is very famous. So when we went to Seogwipo, we visited a famous Korean restaurant that serves cold soup noodles. The meat made noodle more delicious. Whenever we go to Seogwipo City, we always eat the noodles. It's cheap and yummy. Here's the noodles. Doesn't it look delicious?

Even when I had it many times, I'm craving for it again everytime I look at this picture. But it's winter now so I don't think it's a good idea to eat it.

Noodle Soup with Ham

I'm proud that my hubby is getting well at cooking. I think he's getting more interested in learning how to cook. He's so happy when he gets good result on his cooking. Actually, even when it doesn't taste good, I always say that it taste good so he will cook again and again. That's not a problem, I'm sure if he cooks many times, he will do better. Who knows someday cooking will become his hobby and when that time comes, I will be free from cooking! Yahoo!

Oh, look what he made. The noodle soup with ham! It looks so cool and taste great! First he makes the ham soup and put some vegetables then boil some noodles in another pot. When the noodles is soft, he washed it and poured some hot soup. Wow~ it's yummy specially in winter.

Boyeong Chinese Restaurant

After a few months of staying here in Jejudo, we finally found a good restaurant. Boyeong Chinese Restaurant in Hallim serves delicious tangsuyug (sweet and sour pork) and samseon champeong (seafoods noodles).

My hubby went to the supermarket and saw the signboard chinese restaurant. He got off his car and asked for a business card. The next day, my hubby called and he told them to prepare tangsuyug and champeong and we were gonna pick it up after 30 minutes. They can't deliver the food to our home because it's far.

After 30 minutes we drove to the restaurant and picked it up. Here's tangsuyug and champeong was still in the restaurant. The waiter forgot to put tangsuyug in the plastic bag so my hubby called and the owner said they would deliver the champeong instead. Good! Because it's a bother to pick it up again. Besides it was their mistake. Anyway, it seems like the boss is kind enough so they delivered champeong to our home.

The sauce. It looks and taste much different from most Chinese restaurant.

Here's the champeong. It was late but we were satisfied with the service. I think they intended to put much in the bowl and make it more delicious.

Hmmmm... the most delicious tangsuyug and champeong that I've ever tasted in Jejudo.

The restaurant is near Hallim Hospital (Hallim Pyeongwon). From Hallin Hospital, go straight and you'll see a bus stop. Across the bus stop is Boyeong Chinese Restaurant. You won't miss it! It's next to Hallacom 119.

Jajjangmyeon and Champeong

Jajjangmyeon and Champong are the famous chinese food in Korea. It is said that they are chinese food but they truth is, the food is originally from Korea. It's noodles and it's a kind of snacks to Korean and sometimes as meal.

Here's the jajangmyeon or black noodles.

When you order jajangmyeon, it is normal to order champeong or should I say, jajangmyeon is not complete without champeong?

Jajangmyeon is dry and champeong has soup. Champeong is spicy but jajangmyeon is not so if two people are going to eat, they always order jajangmyeon and champeong and they will share the noodles.

Jajangmyeon and champeong always come with onion and jajang sauce, pickled radish, and radish kimchi.

Kimbap Nara

We walked around and on our way home, we saw a Kimbap Nara. It is a korean restaurant selling different kinds of korean food. It's specialty is kimbap, tteokpogi and noodles. If you want to obey your hunger and don't have much money, I recommend Kimbap Nara. You can have a good meal for less than five dollars.

Whenever I go out to take a walk, I always carry 10,000 won in my pocket. That's less than $10. Just in case that we want to drink something, buy snacks while walking, rent dvd and sometimes have something to eat when we are hungry.

We were going home when we passed by to the Kimbap restaurant and hubby saw the jujulmyeon on their menu written outside the restaurant. He said he wanted to eat jujulmyeon so I invited him inside the restaurant and ordered jujulmyeon for him and pork cutlet for me.

Jujulmyeon is a sweet and very spicy noodles with vegetables. And the noodles is chewy. It feels like your eating rubbers. I like spicy food that's why I can eat it but I can't eat too much.

With that meal, I still got change with my less than $10.

Simple cooking and preparing food on a camp

Hubby told me not to prepare and bring many things. He said it's very complicated to carry lots of things specially side dishes. So like we did before we also planned to have chicken for lunch. But we had a hard time finding chicken restaurant in the rural area specially on the way to the Recreation forest. We found some but those are chicken and pizza house and hubby doesn't like them because chicken is not delicious in the pizza house. We are looking for a franchise chicken restaurant. We changed the route and went to the downtown area and there we found one. The Ttore Ore chicken.

We were hungry so before we set up the tent, we had lunch first. Here's what we had for lunch. Chicken and kimbap.

For dinner, we just boiled some water inside the tent because it was too cold outside and we ate kimbap again and "wang ttukong" cup noodles. The day has gone with this very simple cooking and preparing time. hehehe...

kalguksu (knife noodles)

"Kal" means knife "guksu" means noodles. Kalguksu means hand made, knife cut noodles. My hubby and his co-worker went to the restaurant and hubby said that the kalguksu tastes good so he invited me to go there and have a taste of the noodles. I don't like kalguksu much because of the big noodles. But hubby said that the noodles is made of wheat and it's delicious so i will surely love it. And yes, i did! Since then when we are craving for kalguksu, we always go in that restaurant eventhough it's far from my place.

Jjajangmyeon (black noodles)

Jjajangmyeon is a dish popular among Koreans consisting of wheat noodles topped with a thick sauce made of chunjang (a salty black soybean paste), diced meat and vegetables, and sometimes also seafood. Jjajang is the name of the fried sauce and myeon means "noodle."

In Korea, singles eat jjajangmyeon on Black Day (April 14). The idea is that those who didn't give or receive gifts on Valentine's Day or White Day can get together and eat Jjajangmyeon (짜장면) to commiserate their singledom.

Jjajangmyeon is one of my favorite noodles.

Mul naengmyun ( cold noodles in broth)

Mul naengmyun or instant cold noodles in broth. "mul" means water, "naeng" means ice and "myun" means noodles. Yes, it's cold noodles and they even put ice when they serve it during the summer. I didn't wanna try it at first. It looks strange to see those ice floating on top of noodles but hubby told me to try it. I almost ate all when i tried to have a taste of it because the noodles was too thin and too long. I saw the waitress cut it but the noodles was still too long. Well, that was a good experience, wasn't it? hehehe...

The noodles in this picture is green not because of the cucumber but because it is made of green tea.
