I am thankful to be blog friends with Patti over at Pandora's Box.
She actually lives close to MacKenzie Childs farm and has even worked in their store this past year! Oh what a dream! Patti shared with me the actual tree that they had decorated in the store last year...I think it is just 2-die-4 wonderful and whimsical. So this year I thought I would work even harder to replicate it than I did last year. I don't have even one thing that is an actual MC piece but have made plenty replicas of their items.
I found black and white harlequin cloth at Hobby Lobby
Using acrylic paints and textile medium, I painted the fabric to look more like MacKenzie Childs Courtly Check.
Here is the result after adding a red gross-grain ribbon to the border...
Then all I had to do was decorated much like I did last year, however this year I added my version of their teapot to the top of my tree...You can also go back and see my post on the teapot I painted HERE.
It's all so fun and whimsical and I adore the contrast between the back and white with pops of red, don't you?
You can look back at my tutorial on how I made these MC look ball ornaments from last year HERE.

ReplyDeleteI love M-C too but their prices can be a little steep! I saw the $15,000 (yes, that's right) hard-core foam moose head in the catalog and loved it, but not $15,000 worth. Target now has ceramic deer heads as part of their Christmas decor so I scooped one up when on sale last week and have decopaged the head with M-C courtly check napkins. I used gold metallic shoe polish for the horns and a Hobby Lobby wooden plaque that I've covered in red plaid. My husband is attaching the head to the plaque and it will be hung on the wall. Looks pretty darn good and came in at under $25.00!
ReplyDeleteOh, your tree is simply darling! Wish I had some MC things or a little bit of your talent to make my own! :)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
shelia :)
Terry, This is the cutest tree ever! You did MC proud.
ReplyDeleteTerry, how cute and whimsical ! Your tree is just adorable...you are so talented!
ReplyDeleteMacKenzie Childs harlequin pattern is so fun. You nailed it, Terry.
ReplyDeleteYour tree is adorable! I love the use of the black in anything and you did so well with it all!
ReplyDeleteForgot to mention that I love your blog header!
ReplyDeleteTerry, this is adorable. You are so clever to paint the fabric.
ReplyDeletePatti is one of my favorite bloggers. She has painted a tea pot for me. I admire you girls that can paint in this style. ;-)
Thanks for becoming a follower of Hyacinths for the Soul. Welcome! I've been one of your follower for some time for the very same reason..........you love McK-C. ;-)
Look forward to seeing more of your projects.........Sarah
Fabulous! I also have "painted" checked fabric to give it the M-C look (much easier and quicker than painted the checks from scratch!) Your tablecloth finishes the tree and decorations to perfection! Sarah, you, debbie and I should have a M-C face-off with all of our checked decorations! Imagine if we all lived near each other and could share our treasures!!! Happy Holidays!
ReplyDeleteADORABLE! I think you do an awesome job duplicating the MC's look!
ReplyDeleteTerry, your love for McK-C shines through in your beautiful tree! I love your blog header ;o) I see that Pandoras Box would like to have a face off. That would be fun.
ReplyDeleteHoly Wow! That is adorable! I love the teapot on the top! Your stuff is actually cuter than McC's...and yes I love the pops of red with the black & white. Super cute everything! Now I sorta feel like a slacker!
ReplyDeleteJenna
I love that pattern, very original.
