Black Beauty

What to do with veneer missing from furniture?

My options are:

1. I could ignore and just paint right over the missing veneer hoping to camouflage the area.

2. I could fill in the the space of the missing veneer with wood filler then paint the whole piece.

Charming Painted Upholstered Chair

I have jumped on

                                the band wagon of

painted upholstered chairs

that are out there on other blogs.

Doesn't that just sound crazy?

But I had to give it a try and I'll admit,
                it came out lovely!

No Befores, Just Afters

Every once in a while, I get in a hurry and forget to take a before picture. That is the case with this table.
Someone did the work of stripping it down and refinishing it, but with the norm in my booth, if I don't do something different with a piece of furniture, it just sits there not selling!

Sit A Spell

I love it when a unplanned plan comes together!

That is the case with these two chairs...

I found them out at a garage sale recently...already with the hard part done...stripped to the bone!

Hepplewhite ShieldBack Chairs

Oh how ugly and worn out these chairs came into my possession!

But I have given it away on what I did to them, haven't I?

I didn't want to paint them because...

These chairs are Antique Hepplewhite Shield-back solid mahogany chairs!

My addiction to Furniture!

I am standing up and admitting that I have an addiction! But I am really sitting down.

An addiction to abused, beaten, broken and old furniture! Especially old stuff because it's usually all wood.

I don't need anymore.

I don't really want anymore. Um, maybe...

But, I can't help myself when I know what it could look like and keep it out of the landfill.

Child's Rocker Finished~Diamonds In The Rough

Remember I'm doing what I call my Diamonds In The Rough! features? It's where I show you my weekly buys from garage sales, tag sales, thrift stores, etc. Then I promise to show you what I make with them or what I use them for. Well, I finished the child's rocker. But before I reveal it, I will give you a hint of what I did with it. Does this look familiar to anyone?
Okay, now the before...But first, a story. A friend called me and said come and get a child's rocker that her hubby was throwing away. She had gotten it in the trash pile after an auction intending to fix it up. Well, she never did and her hubby got tired of it being in his garage. So I drove over and retrieved it, to save it from her hubby's wrath. Thanks John and Janet!
And I purchased this feedsack...
And this is what I did with both of them...

My thought process was, 1) Feed sacks are a popular look now. 2) Feed sacks are usually very durable and soft. and 3) Why not! What do you think? You want to buy it :)

Chair Transformation

After
This is a story about two lonely chairs in need of a beauty make-over.

I spotted two of these chairs at a thrift store. Right there and then I knew that I could make these chairs look beautiful...again.

Oh nooooooooooooooo,

they didn't look like this!

They looked like...

This (BEFORE)
Before
Ok, so you think, "hey, these are not all that bad!" But up close, they were dirty but had great a great bone structure.

At the time, we had transformed our formal dining room into a study and I thought that these would be perfect for in there.

I took them all apart after purchasing two different (but coordinating) kinds of upholstery fabric.  And I upholstered them complete with lumbar pillows.
One before and one after. I added more foam to the seat for added comfort.
The arms and legs didn't look this red in real life. I think the camera added depth of color and made them look more red than they actually were. But I took a picture and emailed them to my sister. She is really good to bounce off ideas from. I should have done this before because she loved the upholstery but hated the color of the arms and legs. The more I looked at these, I knew she was right, so I did what I don't recommend that you do, I painted the legs and arms AFTER I upholstered the chairs. Very tricky to do especially with oil base paint that I used.
After upholstery and painting black
Lumbar pillow with piping, pin tucks and brush fringe.
Coordinating material was used on the piping and back of the chairs
Here they are in the study and you can see that post here.
As seen in our study
I made a valance for that room out of the left-over material. And painted the finials on the rods.
Valance I made using left-over fabric from chairs.
Then I sold one of them to my good friend and it looks great in her living room and you can see the post I did of her living room here.
It's been amazing to see how good these chairs look in different rooms and different houses.
