Black Randy and the MetroSquad - Pass The Dust I Think I'm David Bowie {OOP}

Man I'll tell you what, that enoch is a posting machine.  So welcome aboard brother.  In the meantime this will probably get like maybe 7 downloads, I don't care.  If you know of this and don't have it here it is.  In the vein of Root Boy (humorous that is) with some pretty cheesy instrumentation. Got to run over to the VW and repost a Beatles.  Front cover only and Various Bit Rates.

Songs
1. I Slept in an Arcade
2. Marlon Brando
3. I Tell Lies Everyday
4. Down at the Laundromat
5. I Wanna be a Nark

Nico + The Faction - Camera Obscura -1985 {Out Of Print}

Nico + The Faction - Camera Obscura
Studio Recordings @
{Out Of Print}

This is a great Nico album, once again produced by John Cale. But unlike their earlier collaborations, this one is far more electronic. A track like "Fearfully in Danger" is not terribly far removed from Gary Numan. Some may find this one more accessible than the beyond-goth of "Marble Index".

The one exception to the electronics is the mournful and jazzy version of "My Funny Valentine". That song has been covered hundreds of times and yet when I hear anyone do it I now always think of Nico's version.

I'd also like to recommend the book "The End" written by her keyboardist on this album. It's a sad, scary yet funny book about Nico's later years and a good thing to read while listening to "Camera Obscura".

~Phil

A Note before you grab this one:

This was sourced from a vinyl version.  There is the occassional pop/tick on this recording.  In addition there is a (short) tape wobble in the third track, which apparently exists on the original tapes from which this vinyl record was produced.  Croce soundboards are traditionally few and far between and this one is excellent, all things considered.

Take it or not as is your want.

The air conditioner in the band room of The Corner Hotel was shaking off its hinges. Next to a tower of speakers, it was fixed above the exit door, and it was rattling, almost dancing, like it wanted to jump off the wall. It was shaking because of the music, namely the song that was cutting through the speakers. The song was Anthrax, the band Gang of Four, and it was loud. Dangerously loud. Squalls of feedback rolled over the crowd, jagged sheets of distortion shaking the ground, the wall, the ceiling. You could feel it in your teeth. Meanwhile, the bass churned, the drums pounded. And over it all was the voice of Jon King intoning “Love will get you like a case of anthrax/and that’s something that I don’t want to catch”.

I don't think Dave Sez has this one...

Lee Morgan - Infinity (1965) {Out of Print}

Lee Morgan - Infinity (1965)
Studio Recordings @ abr 259
{Out of Print}

The late Lee Morgan had a lot of fine saxophonists (Mobley, Shorter, Joe Henderson) but none with as much empathy as altoist Jackie McLean. Starting with "Leeway" and then seguing into various dates in '65 either under Lee or Jackie's name--you would be guaranteed of grade A soloing. This date along with Jackie's "Consequence" which I rate as one of their best, shows the unified sound of these two great artists! In fact they're so together they sound like one. If you need a disc to start the day with--you can't go wrong with "Infinity"
~Dennis Wong
