Market Artisanal La Mariscal and its graffiti, Quito

As tourist, it is nice to stroll a while on La Mariscal market were local products like coffee, cacao and herbs are sold. You also find here souvenirs, clothing and leather products. It is one of the few market we saw in Quito which were focusing on tourism. When you want to buy something, bargaining is a must.

The outer wall of the market is decorated with graffiti, showing visitors images of Ecuadorian culture and history. They cover weaving, tribes, youngsters in the city, vase painting, pottery baking, minority communities and nature.

Als toerist is het leuk eens op zo'n marktje als La Mariscal rond te neuzen. Men verkoopt er lokale producten als koffie, cacao en kruiden. Je vindt er ook souvenirs, kledij en lederen producten. Het is één van de weinige markten die we in Quito zagen, die zich richt op toerisme. Als je iets wil kopen dien je echter af te dingen. 

De buitenmuur van de markt is gedecoreerd met graffiti, om de bezoekers te introduceren in de Ecuadoriaanse cultuur en geschiedenis. Het omvat ambachten zoals weven, bevolkingsminderheden en stammen, jongeren in de stad, schilderen, potten bakken en de natuurgebieden.

Fresh products at Mercado Central, Alicante

Each time when we are in a major Spanish city, we are impressed with the fresh markets. In Alicante the modernist building looks nice but the fresh products are amazing. If we would live here, we would buy a lot of fish and meat at this market. We just love the Spanish meat products like ham.

Iedere keer als we in een grote Spaanse stad zijn, worden we verbluft door de versmarkten. In Alicante is dit in een modernist gebouw maar de producten zijn nog mooier. Als we hier zouden wonen, kochten we waarschijnlijk al ons vlees en vis op deze markt. We houden gewoon van de Spaanse ham.

Academic Lundrovo Nabrezje Market, Ljubljana

This market in the capital of Slovenia is located at Lundrovo Nabrezje besides and underneath a long gallery on the river banks. There are many tourists trying to by souvenirs but merchants also sell fresh fruit.

Kristel was impressed with the knitting work and handbags. Needless to say, we had an additional carry-on on our flight back. They were also selling cosmetics, freshly baked cookies, jewelry and very beautiful colored glass work. A good place to go for a walk and see some of the local products.

Deze markt in de hoofdstad van Slovenië is gelegen op Lundrovo Nabrezje naast en onder een heel lange galerij, aan de rivier. Er zijn hier heel wat toeristen op zoek naar souvenirs en sommige handelaren verkopen ook vers fruit. 

Kristel was onder de indruk van het naaiwerk en handtassen. We vlogen dus terug met extra handbagage. Men verkocht er ook cosmetische producten, verse koekjes, juwelen en heel mooi gekleurd glas. Een leuke plaats om eens te gaan wandelen en de lokale producten te ontdekken.

Mercat del lleo or the fresh market of Girona

Each time we are in Spain, we try to visit a fresh market. It is always fascinating to see all these products we cannot easily buy in our country. We particularly enjoy the fish and meat stands. Could we only have this at home.

Iedere keer als we in Spanje zijn trachten we een versmarkt te bezoeken. Het is altijd fascinerend deze producten te zien die wij in ons land moeilijk kunnen verkrijgen. In het bijzonder genieten we van de vis en vleeskramen. Konden we dit maar ter beschikking hebben thuis.
