FOOTBALL LEGEND - Pele being monitored in 'special care unit'

Pele being monitored in 'special care unit' according to Sao Paulo hospital after Brazil legend treated for urinary infection

  • Pele admitted to special unit at the Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo
  • Hospital unit claim Pele was suffering from 'clinical instability'
  • Brazilian icon was first admitted to the hospital on Monday
  • The 74-year-old had operation to remove kidney stones earlier this month
  • Three-time World Cup winner regarded as the one of the best players ever

Thee-time World Cup winner Pele, who is in a Sao Paulo hospital for treatment for a urinary tract infection, has been moved to a hospital wing where he won't be besieged by as many visitors, his spokesman said on Thursday.

The Albert Einstein Hospital had issued a short statement saying Pele, 74, had been moved to a special care unit after suffering 'clinical instability'. The hospital did not provide details.

Jose Fornos Rodrigues, the former player's personal aide, said Pele was 'completely fine' and the move was primarily to protect his privacy.

'He was uncomfortable with so many people coming. It'll be quieter now,' Rodrigues said by telephone.

A hospital spokeswoman declined to elaborate on Pele's condition, but said he was not in intensive care.

Pele was discharged from the same hospital on November 13 after undergoing surgery to remove kidney stones.

Pele, often called the greatest player in history, has suffered a long list of health problems in the past decade, including emergency eye surgery for a detached retina and a hip replacement.

The Brazil legend won three World Cups as a player and was named 'Football Player of the Century' by FIFA, 'Athlete of the Century' by the International Olympic Committee, and a 'national treasure' by Brazil's government.

Lhakpa Tenzing Sherpa
Known for21 ascents of Mount Everest
Apa (born Lhakpa Tenzing Sherpa; 20 January 1960),[1] nicknamed "Super Sherpa",[2] is a Nepalese Sherpamountaineer who, jointly with Phurba Tashi, holds the record for reaching the summit of Mount Everest more times than any other person. As part of The Eco Everest Expedition 2011, Apa made his 21st Mount Everest summit in May 2011.[3]

Early life

Lhakpa Tenzing Sherpa was born in Thame, a village in the Everest region of Nepal, near the Chinese border. Following his father's death when he was 12 years old, Apa had to take up the responsibilities of his family, consisting of his mother, two sisters and three young brothers. He dropped out of school and earned money working as a porter for mountaineering groups. His climbing career began in 1985, and he worked as a kitchen boy and porter for various groups but was not given the opportunity to reach the summit until 1990.[1]

Personal life

Apa married Yangjin, then also a resident of Thame, in 1988 and has two sons—Tenjing and Pemba—and a daughter Dawa. The family moved to the United Stateswith the help of his friend Jerry Mika for business opportunities and to provide better education for their children. They live in Draper, Utah.[4][5]
In April 2009, Apa founded the Apa Sherpa Foundation, dedicated to the improvement of education and economic development in Nepal.[6] When not on expeditions, Apa works for Diamond Mold, a precision machining and injection molding company in Salt Lake City, Utah that has also supported his foundation.[7][8][9]

Climbing career

Apa first reached the summit of Mount Everest on his fourth attempt, on May 10, 1990, with a New Zealand team led by climber Rob Hall along with Peter Hillary, son of Edmund Hillary.[10] He then began his career as Sirdar, or chief Sherpa, for many high altitude expeditions. He has reached the summit every year between 1990 and 2011, bar 1996 and 2001; all but three times have been in May, and in 1992 he reached the summit twice.
Apa in his May 2010 Trek says that climbing to Everest has become tough due to the melting of ice and rock surfaces. He sees visible changes on the Everest summit due to global warming. [11][12]

Ascents of Mount Everest[edit]

Apa has climbed Mount Everest a total of 21 times, which stands as the current record. Aside from these 21 ascents, however, Apa has also participated in unsuccessful attempts.

May 2009 ascent

Apa broke his own record by reaching the summit of Everest for the nineteenth time on May 21, 2009. He was a member of The Eco Everest Expedition, led by Bill Burke, whose purpose was to raise awareness about climate change. The team spent half an hour at the top of the mountain, unfurling a banner that said "Stop Climate Change".[13] The team brought down five tonnes of mountain trash that includes parts of a crashed helicopter, tin cans and climbing material.[2] On this expedition, a friend and fellow Sherpa, Lhakpa Nuru, was swept away in an avalanche on May 7, 2009, and died.[14][15]

May 2011 ascent

Apa again broke his own record by reaching the summit of Everest for the twenty-first time on May 11, 2011.[3]

Great Himalayan Trail

On April 2012, he successfully lead the first expedition to complete the Great Himalaya Trail, a 1,700-kilometre (1,050-mile) trek spanning the entire length of the Nepalese Himalayas.[16] The Great Himalaya Trail is considered to be one of the world's most difficult treks.[16] Sherpa and three companions set off in January on the Climate Smart Celebrity Trek, an expedition promoting tourism and highlighting the effects of climate change.[16] The adventurers set out from the shadow of the world's third-highest peak, Mount Kanchenjunga, in the east and finished at Nepal's border with Tibet in the west, 20 days ahead of schedule.[16] Along the way they traversed some of the world's most rugged landscapes, ascending beyond 6,000 metres (19,600 feet).[16] Dawa Steven Sherpa, a member of the expedition who has climbed Everest twice, said the group found mountain communities that rely on subsistence farming were suffering the effects of climate change.[16]

GREAT PEOPLE - 30 Facts About Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

30 facts about prophet Muhammad -PBUH-

30 facts about prophet Muhammad -PBUH-

By Hind Touissate
Morocco World News
Kenitra, Jan 24, 2013
Today, the world is going through war time, many terrorist activities are targeting innocent people in different parts of the world and in most of these activities Muslims are caught up as suicide bombers or terrorists in short. My aim behind writing this post is to just give the most accurate and original information regarding our most beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Here are 30 facts about the prophet Muhammad -PBUH-:

1. He was a descendant of the Prophet Ismail the son of Prophet Ibrahim. -PBUT-

2. Prophet Muhammad PBUH was born in Mecca.

3. The year was 570 A.D.

4. Shortly after his birth his mother died.

5. His father was already dead before his birth. So he became orphan.

6. During this time his uncle Aboo Talib and his grand father Abdul-mutlib took care of him.

7. At the age of nine he started going on trade trips along with his uncle.

8. He met with people of different nations and religions during those trips.

9. His character was respected by all. People throughout Medina including the Jews gave him the name of “The Trustworthy.”

10. In one of his trip he met a Christian scholar, the scholar said to his uncle that he will one day do something great and I can see it because all the trees, mountains and sea are in the bow in front of him.

11. When he got 25, he got a proposal from Khadija for marriage which he accepted and thus they got married. Khadija was 40 years of age at the time of marriage.

12. For the first 54 years of his life he had only one wife. His only wife till 50th year of his life was Sayyida Khadija.

13. They had sons but they died in their childhood.

14. Prophet Muhammed married Sayyida Aicha when she was 9 years old. 1400 years ago it was something very common to marry young girls, in fact they were not considered young girls, and rather they were considered young women back then. It is a historic fact that girls from the ages of 9 to 14 were being married in Europe, Asia, and Africa, in fact even in the United States girls at the age of 10 were also being married just more than a century ago. Yet with these facts no historian claims that all these people were sick perverts, historians would call anyone who made such a claim to be arrogant and very stupid who has no grasp or understanding of history.

15. He never ate alone. He invited others and then ate with them.

16. He encouraged the washing of hands before and after eating food.

17. He regularly visited the poor and ill.

18. Upon visiting a person, he used to greet them and then take their permission before entering the house and encourage others to do the same as a mark of respect.

19. He used to mend his clothes, repair his shoes and sweep the floor as well as do the household shopping during his married life.

20. As people of Mecca at that time were involved in many sinful activities, like they killed their daughters, did drinking, rape, and killing of innocent people, Prophet Muhammad did not admired those activities at all and to have solitude and peace he went to cave Hira.

21. Once when he was in the cave Hira he saw Angel Gabriel there. The angel said to him « read in the name of Allah », Prophet Muhammad replied that I can neither read nor write I am an illiterate.

22. After Angel Gabriel came again with revelations, he started preaching Islam to people.

23. He used to preach to people, but avoided preaching to excess to avoid annoying people.

24. He sometimes prayed so much his legs swelled. In one incident, he was asked why he offered such an unbearable prayer and he replied with “Shall I not be a thankful slave (to Allah)?”

25. He sent letters to Kings and leaders beyond Arabia inviting them to Islam.

26. Pagans and Non-Muslims did harm to Prophet Muhammad PBUH and other Muslims by different means but Prophet Muhammad had patience and perseverance.

27. His Prophethood lasted for a long period of 23 years, during which he received Revelations from Allah.

28. He never proclaimed himself as anyone or anything Divine.

29. His name is now one of the most popular names in the world.

30. After 23 years of Prophet-hood Muhammad (p.b.u.h) died and after his death Islam spread to other places too because of the efforts of his Caliphs. The revelations of Allah on Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) were compiled in Quran after his death.
