Auburn, AL: German Wirehaired Pointer Needs a Loving Home

Please contact Stephanie if you can help:  334-559-0558 or by email at autigrrl@gmail.com.

A friend of mine’s wife works at the vet school at Auburn University (in Alabama) and this dog was brought in a short time ago. She had been shot.  As a result, she is now blind in her right eye and recovering the sight in her left eye. She is a female German wirehaired pointer (purebred, but without papers) that is around a year old. She has not been spayed.  My friend and his wife have been keeping her at their house for a little while and are willing to keep her for another week or so, but they can’t provide a permanent home for her.

The couple has twins who are toddlers and their resident dog pushes this dog around a bit.  She is very sweet, not even remotely aggressive and has been good with the children pulling and poking at her for the last week!  She was pretty skittish at first, which is not surprising for a dog that has been shot, but she has started to come out of her shell a lot within the last few days. The doctors who have seen her have recommended not removing the right eye at this time and said it may not be necessary at all. It is not protruding or anything; it just appears cloudy. They have also said it may be best to wait a little while before having her spayed because of the trauma she has been through recently.

I am hoping to find a home for this sweet girl. If a loving forever home can’t be found, the couple would be willing to let the dog go to a rescue, but they really feel that it would be best for her to be in a quiet and stable environment (not in a kennel situation) in order to recover comfortably.  If anyone is interested in helping this dog, they can contact me at 334-559-0558 or by email at autigrrl@gmail.com.  I would be willing to help with a transport.

Thank you!
Stephanie

Tuscaloosa, AL: Cat Needs to Get Out

We recieved a 3-4 yr old solid white cat at our shelter. He is already neutered and declawed on the front.
He was found in someone's yard about 2 months ago and they couldn't keep him anymore. He is sweet and loving, but his only flaw is that he HATES other cats. Not quite sure what that is about. With him being deaf and not liking other cats there is no way that we can adopt him out. If anyone is looking for a great cat or can rescue him, please let me know ASAP. My information is below:

Greenville, AL: American Bull Dog Pup Needs Help Quick

We are running out of space and time to hold onto him. He is 7 months old. He's an American Bulldog who is extremely sweet.

Yes, he is deaf. Not Neutered. Not UTD on shots. Very sweet somewhat jumpy but only because he doesn't know you're there. Good with kids but not to sure about dogs and cats. The family that had him was splitting up and the wife couldn't handle him.

If you can help, contact Kristi Stinson at greenville_animal_shelter@yahoo.com

Etowah County, AL: American Bulldog is Not Doing Well

Meet Jackson, a deaf American Bulldog at a shelter in Etowah County, AL. He passed his temperament test with flying colors and needs a home ASAP! He is getting sick at the shelter.

Jackson was picked up as a neighborhood stray, but the community didn't call him in because he was a nuisance - they called him in because the other dogs were beating him up all the time! He has some scarring on his face and needs a little medical TLC.

He is a sweet boy who I just fell in love with and want to save. He will not fare well if left at the shelter much longer. Please - rescues, fosters, adopters - help me get this boy out and find him a home!

I have more pictures and info if needed. Any help will be appreciated!

Birmingham, AL: Deaf Great Dane Needs Foster

I am desperately seeking a knowledgable foster for this young deaf great dane. I have a potential dane owner who runs a doggy daycare here in Birmingham, who is thinking of fostering but nothing certain and I hate for too much time to pass. The shelter will work with me and they are open 7 days a week too which is great since I have a career on top of my own rescue and work Mon-Fri 7am-6pm.

Savannah is a beauty. I spoke to the shelter rescue coordinator and she gave me some insight on her.

- owner surrender (owner said that he had landlord problems)
- she is good tempered and seems to be irritated with the shelter life
- she was not to fond of other dogs coming up behind her while she was eating but is fine with the dogs when no food is around. There was no full out attack-aggression but just a snarl and warning.
- she is 12-14 mos old
- if you are able to foster or know of someone, she will come FULLY vetted to you

If you or someone you know might can foster her for Peace Love & Dog Paws Rescue, Inc. we would be able to save her life!!! I can't turn my back on her and must help her. She needs someone who understands her but also understands that she is a young playful pup and with the right training (hand signals, etc) she will be a wonderful companion. The staff at the shelter is not sure if she knows any signs because they do not know any. Thank you very much!!
