Artist Trading Coin and more!

Hello! I'm sharing some more adventures with my Gel Plate today! An Artist Trading Card has been around for ages - the definition might be: a small piece of art (2.5" x 3.5") that can we swopped (traded) with others. An Artist Trading Coin is the same idea but is 2.5" wide and is the very latest thing!
I started by covering my gel pate with Caribbean Sea and printing on two ATCs. Then I added Snowflake (the picture shows the blue and then the blue with a white overprint).
Then add a layer of Granny Smith and a layer of Snowflake.
Follow that with a little Banana and Bougainvillea through a Splotches stencil. Finally add Slate through the Flames stencil.
I then sanded one ATC to reveal the colour beneath; die cut the other one into a circle
and edge both with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. The coating on the ATC means you can achieve a really interesting finish when you sand it!
(Sorry about the odd colour of this photo!) Stamp the bottom of the circle with the line stamp (from Zinski 01) and line up the stamp so you can position.
Then I added a figure and a saying and my ATC/ATCoin combo is complete!
Of course I couldn't limit myself to just an ATC so I made a tag alongside the ATC using the same techniques.
Thank you, as always for popping by!

Flowers are smiles

My latest addition is to my Gel Plate - there is an unlimited amount of fun to be had printing your own backgrounds and making a whole range of things! This month I have made two different backgrounds for my large Journal using the same equipment.
Before I start, a couple of things to note: I made this on a really hot day so I wasn't able to photograph everything as the paint was drying so quickly! The second is that my plate had some pits on the surface after I'd washed it. These have since disappeared - so ignore the 'bubble' effect on the first few photos! You won't have this one your plate and I haven't experienced this since.

My first step was to brayer a layer of Caribbean Sea paint to the surface - you don't need a lot of paint as you can repeat any of the steps to cover your paper.
Lay your page on the paint and rub the back of the paper to transfer the paint to the paper. Then peel your paper off the plate.
This is my first print.
I then made a second print using Teresa Green.
Then I added a white (Snowflake) layer. I tend to add a layer of colour and then a layer of white. I like the layers of colours - think lots of layers of wallpaper in an old house!
You don't have to add paint to the whole of the surface of your plate, here I added Bougainvillea to a small areas on the plate. You can, of course, put paint on the plate and only put part of your paper on the plate; rotate the paper so you don't always use the same part of the plate on the same part of the paper and print as many layers as you like.
So, that's my base. Now to add some stencilling! On the plate, lay your stencil and brayer paint through.
This is what that stencil looks like.
This is Tracks in Banana
And this is Gothic in Slate
This is the finished page, trimmed and with Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges.
To finish the page off I used lots of Zinski Art stamps
Thank you for popping by - my second page using these paints and stencils will be here next week!

Mixing the old with the new

Hello it's Jane from Jane's Journal here today sharing some of my newest Tim Holtz buys. I am super excited that in September I will be attending his workshop and will be  playing more with his Distress oxides but for my post today I wanted to share a vintage tag I made using his Distress Oxides and the fab paper dolls , mixing them with some of my older products in my stash, particularly Tim's layering stencils .

If you would like to see the inspiration for my tag today I have linked my own blog post up here sharing a day in London seeing the "old" and the "new" in my favourite city in the world. You will see lots of photos of a sunny day out. I make "Moments" for my physical Jane's Journal to remember special occasions in my life. Sometimes I make art journal moments, sometimes I make tags. It was our wedding anniversary and we celebrated over lunch in the Fenchurch restaurant of the Walkie Talkie building. For this "Moment" I decided to make a tag.

I have provided links to the shop in my post and if any of the products I am sharing are out of stock do fill in the email request and Susan will email you as soon as they are back in stock.
I took a size 8 tag (I cut my own with the Framelits set here ) and made a background using the wrinkle free technique and 3 oxides; fired brick spiced marmalade and broken china and as these were the predominant colours I saw on our sunny day out. I kept the blue at the top to represent the blue sky we looked out to from our table.

I stencilled in some sunny rays using the rays stencil and fossalized amber oxide to represent the sunshine streaming in that day.

I used some of Tim's older stamps to stamp a random love letter background using sepia archival ink.  This is to celebrate our anniversary and 36 years of love and fun...yes I married my soul mate and I know I am very lucky.

I also wanted to use one of the great paper dolls. As I looked through the pack I found a vintage bride and groom and I thought it was perfect for my old and new tag

I  die cut an old Sizzix house, bought from the year round CVC sale page (you can find lots of bargains here all year, there are lots of Tim products there too)  a while back and snipped off the bits I didn't need and used some snippets of paper from my stash and a piece of tissue tape to anchor everything together as a mini collage.

I also used the mini heart stencil from set 6 and added some more fired brick oxide to leave "lots of love" on the brides dress and at points on the tag.

I also added some remnant rubs from the life quotes  set. I thought this saying was perfect.

I finished off with some words from the Ideaology small talk pad and a little red heart from my stash.

Here is my finished tag.
and a few close ups. I love using the Oxides through stencils, they layer up perfectly.

I really am enjoying playing with the oxides and mixing the old with the new.

A little heads up...Susan is expecting the new colours of Distress Oxides in very soon...I have some on pre-order and cannot wait to play with those too.  Remember that for the UK your orders are also  posted free. These inks really are a game changer in my books, I love crafting with them.

Thanks for stopping by,

Bye for now,

Jane x

Stencil Fun!

Hello! Jennie here sharing a few cards made with my (ever growing stash of) stencils!

When stencils first started appearing I was actually rather scared of them but amazingly I wouldn't be without them now. Once I learnt how to use them in layers over the top of each other using either inks or texture paste I have really enjoyed using them.

So here are a few cards and step by steps using the layering stencil process.

I really like creating cards using ATCs. They are a great size for experimentation and sit well on a blank white card as a little note or thank you card. I used the Wrinkle Free Distress Technique to get some colour on this matt ATC - I used Blueprint Sketch and Twisted Citron (I really love this combination!).

I used a layering stencil and the same coloured inks to create the first layer.

And then a number stencil and there are a few dots in there too from another one!

After adding a little text stamping with Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink I used another stencil and texture paste as a final layer. I love the white paste layer but it does pick up a bit of ink too which makes for some interesting colour.

I finished this ATC with a sentiment stamped from in Picket Fence Distress Paint on black cardstock before layering the ATC onto some more black cardstock and then my white card blank.

I thought it would be fun to try the same colours on a glossy cardstock ATC and here are the results - I think you will agree quite different!

I love the way the initial stencil layer looks almost 3D.

So ....... a girl can't have enough stencils! well this one anyway!

Thank you so much for joining me today.
