Mixing the old with the new

Hello it's Jane from Jane's Journal here today sharing some of my newest Tim Holtz buys. I am super excited that in September I will be attending his workshop and will be  playing more with his Distress oxides but for my post today I wanted to share a vintage tag I made using his Distress Oxides and the fab paper dolls , mixing them with some of my older products in my stash, particularly Tim's layering stencils .

If you would like to see the inspiration for my tag today I have linked my own blog post up here sharing a day in London seeing the "old" and the "new" in my favourite city in the world. You will see lots of photos of a sunny day out. I make "Moments" for my physical Jane's Journal to remember special occasions in my life. Sometimes I make art journal moments, sometimes I make tags. It was our wedding anniversary and we celebrated over lunch in the Fenchurch restaurant of the Walkie Talkie building. For this "Moment" I decided to make a tag.

I have provided links to the shop in my post and if any of the products I am sharing are out of stock do fill in the email request and Susan will email you as soon as they are back in stock.
I took a size 8 tag (I cut my own with the Framelits set here ) and made a background using the wrinkle free technique and 3 oxides; fired brick spiced marmalade and broken china and as these were the predominant colours I saw on our sunny day out. I kept the blue at the top to represent the blue sky we looked out to from our table.

I stencilled in some sunny rays using the rays stencil and fossalized amber oxide to represent the sunshine streaming in that day.

I used some of Tim's older stamps to stamp a random love letter background using sepia archival ink.  This is to celebrate our anniversary and 36 years of love and fun...yes I married my soul mate and I know I am very lucky.

I also wanted to use one of the great paper dolls. As I looked through the pack I found a vintage bride and groom and I thought it was perfect for my old and new tag

I  die cut an old Sizzix house, bought from the year round CVC sale page (you can find lots of bargains here all year, there are lots of Tim products there too)  a while back and snipped off the bits I didn't need and used some snippets of paper from my stash and a piece of tissue tape to anchor everything together as a mini collage.

I also used the mini heart stencil from set 6 and added some more fired brick oxide to leave "lots of love" on the brides dress and at points on the tag.

I also added some remnant rubs from the life quotes  set. I thought this saying was perfect.

I finished off with some words from the Ideaology small talk pad and a little red heart from my stash.

Here is my finished tag.
and a few close ups. I love using the Oxides through stencils, they layer up perfectly.

I really am enjoying playing with the oxides and mixing the old with the new.

A little heads up...Susan is expecting the new colours of Distress Oxides in very soon...I have some on pre-order and cannot wait to play with those too.  Remember that for the UK your orders are also  posted free. These inks really are a game changer in my books, I love crafting with them.

Thanks for stopping by,

Bye for now,

Wine gift tag using Tim's Framelits tag collection

Hello, its Jane here and I am popping in to share a really quick, simple thank you wine bottle gift tag I made for a friend.
I recently bought the Tim Holtz Framelits tag collection from the shop. I have had my eye on it for ages and took the plunge. This is the opened pack, you get lots of sizes for your money and a great bookplate die too.

I make lots of large inky backgrounds and often have pieces left over which I thought I could make into tag bases.
Here is one such piece, just mopping up after using the amazing Distress Oxides.

I used the largest die to cut my tag...it's the size of a normal #8 tag

I used a scallop circle to cut the opening for the bottle neck.

I then used my mini Tim heart stencil, I love these smaller versions.

I added hearts using broken china and worn lipstick oxides. I also added some vintage photo to the edges.

I used another of the dies in the set to cut a book plate label. I stamped and embossed "thank you" in blue and added 2 shiny brads.

And here is my finished wine gift tag...simples πŸ˜‰

The recipient loved it ...and the wine too πŸ˜‹It was a thank you to my friend for looking after our cat when our grandson was born 3 weeks ago. If you like baby photos there are lots over on my blog here today
This is really quick and easy way to make a thank you card and pressie all in one go...nothing to wrap up either...win win in my books.

Thanks for stopping by,

Back soon,

Bye for now,

Merry Christmas One and All

Hello Everyone !

Jennie here today to wish you all a very happy Christmas Eve
and to share the last Christmas project of the year.

Tim Holtz introduced us to a fabulous linen look technique in his November tag and I have to say I absolutely love it and can't stop using it as it is such a fabulous background for so many stamps. Click the link  HERE to go to Tim's blog and details of the technique.

I have used Antique Linen for the background over a base of Picket Fence Distress Pain. I have used a little bending as well as the Wrinkle Free Technique. I have blended some Vintage Photo Distress Ink around the edges and done a little stamping with Gathered Twigs.

I use this Poinsettia stamp and die throughout the year for birthday cards, but thought I ought to give it a Christmas outing. I have stamped the bouquet with Festive Berries Distress Ink and added a little Aged Mahogany around the edges. I love how the die cuts everything out so beautifully. I layered the large cut out on my card with foam dots and then cut the smaller flower on its own and layered this also with foam dots.

And there you have it! A vintage style Christmas card which could easily
be adapted to a birthday card.

And so to Christmas ……...

On behalf of all of us here at Country View Crafts Project Blog
may I wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas.

Jennie x

All the fun of the circus - minus the clowns!

So for my second make this month.. I have made a circus themed birthday card and also a circus gift box .  I used some brights distress stains, the circus themed framelits from Tim Holtz and also the sizzix pillow box die.. so here they are :

So here are the details for the card :

I applied some distress stains to my craft sheet and lightly misted them...

I then misted some card slightly bigger than the card front and misted with water before swiping through the stains on the sheet.
( I did more than one and opted to use the brighter one ..but sorry cant find picture :( )

Once done I heat dried using heat tool, I then spritzed with water using new distress spritzer and left for few seconds for water to react with stain before heat drying. When dry I glued to card front, trimmed and edged with walnut stain distress ink.

Here are the details ...I applied some barn door distress ink in random places through harlequin stencil.
I then inked up sentiment from handrwitten sentiment set and stamped in top right of card.

To embellish the card I stamped the elephant from the framelit set.. and then die cut using the coordinating die from the set..the metal platform makes this so easy , no need for tape as the platform holds the die in place ! perfect!

I scribbled some colours of ditress marker onto my craft sheet and applied to image using my water brush,  heat dried and then edged with walnut stain distress ink. To complete I added some glossy accents to highlight some areas and sprinkled with rock candy distress glitter and left to dry.

To complete I added some seam binding dyed with abandoned coral distress stain, scrunched and left to dry overnight and then slipped inside card and tied on front to form a bow .

Now for the gift box ....

I die cut the box using 220gsm card , using the sizzix pillow box die from Tim Holtz...I then embossed it using an embossing folder....the trick is to emboss half of the box, turn and then place back inside the folder and emboss the other half...this works better with a patteren where there is no top/bottom , as it then matches eassily .

I then spritzed with water...ready for dipping and swiping...

I applied some swooshes of stains onto my craft sheet...

I then swiped and re swiped the die cut through and re misted , allowing the colours to ru....If you want the colours to stay disinct it will be better to apply stain in patches and not re swipe the card.

I then heat dried and inked the edges with walnut stain distress ink... I added the lion from the same framelit set, cutting as for the elephant , using coordinating die...

I coloured using distress markers and dried, then edged with walnut stain distress ink.

To complete I added the lion to the front of the gift box, fixed the box together and added a chit chat sticker edged with walnut stain distress ink.

here is the back, which I left plain...

I tied a bow, again using dyed seam binding around the bottom of the box and tied to form a bow on the front.

So hope you liked my second make for this month ...and I will see you later in the month for another very different make .x

keep those fingers inky
and those hearts full x
