When mom said that I could clean the fans and lightbulbs, I was actually kind of scared. I am not the kind of person who enjoys standing on high stools or unscrewing lightbulbs. For some reason, its just not my idea of fun. (Especially when my siblings are running around and trying to climb on the stool with me.) But on Friday, I decided if I was going to serve Mom, I might as well put a lot of effort into it so I can get more blessings. Well, the blessings came when I put all the lightbulbs and sconces back in. I noticed two things: When you take out the pieces you have to take them out one by one and the bulbs and glass was so much brighter once cleaned. Mom and I applied this to the gospel.
#1 When you take out pieces you have to take them out one by one.
When you have an area of problem in your life, you need to take out or repent of sins that are in the way of you fixing that problem. For example: If I have a problem with being positive, I can take out the screws of selfishness, pride, greed and gloom. Then I can finally change that lightbulb.
#2 When you wash off dust you shine better.
"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel, but on a candle stick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father which is in heaven." (Matt. 5: 14-16)
"Verily I say unto you all: Arise and shine forth, that thy light may be a standard for the nations."(Doctrine & Covenants 115:5)
I think that pretty much says it all: When you clean out the dusty corners and dirty edges of your life, you shine better as a Child of God.
